I Hoard Supplies and Raise a Child in the Wasteland World by Drawing Cards (GL) - Chapter 13
Lin Ran didn’t care what he was doing. She raised her sword with both hands and slashed at the male zombie’s neck. Then she kicked the zombie hard in the chest, pulled out the sword, and quickly swung it again. The male zombie quickly fell to the ground, lifeless.
The commotion from Lin Ran’s side attracted the attention of the other four zombies. They all started to move toward her. However, the supermarket had many shelves, like a maze. As they walked backward, Lin Ran went around to the front, getting behind the last zombie, and slashed at it.
The zombie was completely unprepared. Lin Ran quickly pulled out her sword and delivered a second slash, ending the zombie’s life.
The three zombies in front heard the noise and turned around, seemingly still trying to determine if Lin Ran was a zombie by her smell.
Lin Ran didn’t care what they were thinking. She raised her sword and slashed at them. The three zombies didn’t expect Lin Ran to attack them suddenly. Plus, there was no scent of a living person on Lin Ran, so the three zombies weren’t very interested. As a result, Lin Ran easily took care of them.
“Congratulations, darling. You have collected a total of 50 zombie cores so far. Keep up the good work!” the system’s jarring voice sounded again.
But Lin Ran’s body was not made of steel. No matter how strong she was, her energy was more than half gone. Plus, with the disgusting smell on her, Lin Ran’s strong willpower was the only thing keeping her from fainting.
She endured the nausea and checked the store again. Once she was sure there were no other zombies, she locked the store door and then used two wooden chairs to block the glass door. This way, if someone broke through the glass door, Lin Ran would know immediately.
Lin Ran immediately went to the supermarket’s bathroom, turned on the faucet, and started washing her face. Outside, when she was in an extremely dangerous situation, she could tolerate the smell on her. But now that she knew she was temporarily safe, Lin Ran truly wanted to throw up.
She washed her face with water, but the smell was still strong. Lin Ran took off her almost-dripping denim jacket and threw it aside, leaving only a black tank top on her upper body. The lines on her arms were tight and defined, and although she didn’t have obvious muscles, she gave off a feeling of great strength.
However, Lin Ran was not in the mood to admire her good physique. She pulled off her hair tie and smelled a strong, foul odor in her hair. For the first time, Lin Ran felt overwhelmed. Even in her past life, when she was on the most dangerous missions, she had never been in this state. No wonder the zombies were ignoring her; she was practically marinated in their stench. Just breathing made her want to vomit.
Water alone couldn’t wash away the smell on her. Luckily, she was in a supermarket. She grabbed some facial cleanser, shampoo, and body wash and went to the bathroom. She first washed her hair thoroughly with shampoo four times until there was no bl00d left in it and it returned to its original state.
Next, Lin Ran washed her face twice with a facial cleanser. After rinsing with water, Lin Ran finally felt alive again.
She thought for a moment, then reopened the bathroom door and started rummaging through the supermarket. The store was open 24/7, so the employees must have a place to put their clothes. Her clothes were now sticky and smelled terrible. Lin Ran also felt that having zombie bl00d on her body might not be good for her health, so she wanted to change her clothes as soon as possible.
She went behind the counter and rummaged through it, finding a thin baseball jacket. Lin Ran quickly put the jacket on the counter and continued to search. This time, she only found two T-shirts. They looked like men’s shirts, but Lin Ran put them on the counter as well.
Then Lin Ran walked to the back, hoping to find an employee changing room. She actually found one. There was a small door on the side of the counter. When she pushed it open, she found a room that was about three square meters. One side had six double-door metal lockers, and the other side was barely big enough for a person to stand.
Lin Ran checked them and found that only two of the lockers were unlocked. The rest were locked. Lin Ran was afraid that making too much noise would attract other zombies, so she only opened the two unlocked lockers. The third locker from the top was probably a male employee’s locker. It contained three T-shirts of different colors, and one of them was still in its plastic bag with the tag on.
Lin Ran quickly took it out. She needed pants more than a shirt right now. Although her black jeans didn’t look too dirty, they were actually covered in foul zombie bl00d. Lin Ran didn’t want to wear them for another minute.
She found a pair of men’s beach shorts and a pair of men’s sweatpants with a drawstring. The shorts weren’t very useful, but she took the sweatpants out. She could probably wear those.
Then she squatted down and checked the second-to-last locker. This was clearly a female employee’s locker. The T-shirts inside were noticeably smaller than the other ones, and the colors were what a girl would wear.
Lin Ran took out the three T-shirts, then found a pair of white casual pants, a pair of thin black wide-leg jeans, and a white jacket. Lin Ran took all the clothes, along with the baseball jacket from the counter, and put them on a clean stool in the bathroom.
Lin Ran thought for a moment and started searching the supermarket again. Sure enough, she found a lot of underwear and tank tops. Lin Ran took a few of them and a pair of slippers and hurried back to the bathroom.
She locked the bathroom door and took off her clothes and shoes. The quality of her boots was good, and no bl00d had gotten inside. Lin Ran changed into the slippers and started taking a cool shower.
It was summer, so a cool shower was bearable. Lin Ran scrubbed herself repeatedly with body wash. It wasn’t until the fourth time that she started to smell like a person again. She breathed a sigh of relief and dried herself with a new towel from the shelf.
She put on new underwear and then the wide-leg black jeans. Lin Ran found some socks on a shelf and put them on, then put her boots back on. Finally, she put on the baseball jacket she had found.
Only then could Lin Ran breathe normally. She hadn’t prepared many clothes when she was gathering supplies. If she had to keep killing zombies like this, she would go through a lot of clothes. She should prepare more when she had time.
Thinking this, she used the towel to wipe the bl00d off her backpack. She unzipped it and looked inside, finding that no zombie bl00d had seeped in. It was a good thing she had asked for a waterproof backpack, or the food and drinking water inside would have been disgusting.
Lin Ran saw that there was still some empty space inside. She went to the shelf and grabbed three tank tops and three pairs of underwear, all in plastic packaging. Who knew what would happen next? It was better to be prepared. She even threw in a bottle of body wash. The backpack was now completely full, and Lin Ran zipped it up.
She checked her phone. It was already 3 p.m. There was only an hour left until the card-drawing location appeared, but she was now out of energy. Lin Ran decided to rest for a bit, eat something, and then continue.
Since she was in a small supermarket, everything was readily available. She found a small electric pot at the counter. Lin Ran washed the pot with water, then poured bottled water into it. She grabbed a bag of mushroom-flavored hot pot base, cut it open, and poured it in. Her wisdom tooth still hurt, so she couldn’t eat anything too spicy.
Because she was short on time, Lin Ran didn’t plan on making anything fancy. There was no beef or lamb in the small supermarket, but there were plenty of bags of fish balls. Lin Ran took a bag of cuttlefish balls, three bags of shrimp paste, a can of spam, and a bag of noodles and went back to the pot.
She threw the cuttlefish balls in to cook, then used a small knife to slice the spam and threw that in, too. After that, she added the noodles and squeezed in both bags of shrimp paste. A simple hot pot with noodles was ready.
Lin Ran walked to the shelf and grabbed a bottle of electrolyte water. When the food in the pot was cooked, she started eating.
The mushroom soup base wasn’t flavorful enough, so Lin Ran even took a packet of dipping sauce and poured it onto the lid of the pot, eating from the lid.
She had used up a lot of energy earlier and really needed to replenish it. Lin Ran scooped some shrimp paste and cuttlefish balls onto the lid, then took a mouthful of noodles, mixing them with the dipping sauce, and ate heartily. After that, she took a big gulp of electrolyte water and felt a little better.
Lin Ran didn’t dare to waste any more time and continued to eat the spam and noodles. By the time she was full, it was already about 3:30 p.m.
Lin Ran unplugged the pot, tidied up her backpack, and put it on her back. She took a new hair tie from the shelf and retied her messy long hair into a ponytail. Then she took out her Tang Dao and, with the sword in her right hand, walked toward the door.
Perhaps because their complex was not on a main street, and because Lin Ran had already cleared out some of the zombies, there weren’t many zombies wandering around the complex right now.
Lin Ran stretched her muscles and joints. The feeling of being covered in the foul bl00d made her whole body tingle, but there was no time. She still had to try to get as many zombie cores as possible.
Thinking this, Lin Ran opened the supermarket door. She hadn’t fully recovered her strength yet, so Lin Ran took out the compound crossbow. After loading a bolt, Lin Ran decided to use the crossbow to kill some of the zombies. Although this would mean losing bolts, there was no other way right now.
As the screeching sound of the door opening echoed, nearby zombies immediately heard it and started coming toward Lin Ran.
Lin Ran quickly aimed with the crossbow, pulled the trigger, and fired at a zombie about 20 meters to her left. The bolt flew straight toward the zombie’s face, hitting it squarely in the forehead.
The corner of Lin Ran’s lips curled into a slight smile. She was confident in her shooting skills. In her past life, she was the female bodyguard with the strongest overall combat ability at an international bodyguard company. She was number one in both firearms and close combat, so she had a lot of clients and made a lot of money. She was definitely a rich woman.
