I Marked My Arch-Nemesis Omega - Chapter 1
Sheng Yu leaned back in her chair with her arms crossed, dreaming that she had won two hundred million in the lottery. Before she could even claim the prize, she was jolted awake by the piercing cries of a baby.
Irritated, she straightened up and glanced around. The source of the noise was three rows ahead of her—a child standing on an adult’s lap, its head peeking above the seat, snot and tears streaming down its face. The parent made no effort to soothe the child, letting it wail freely.
“Can you control your kid?” someone finally snapped.
“Kids cry—it’s what they do. You were the same when you were little,” retorted the middle-aged Alpha man in his forties, casually glancing at the speaker while releasing his pheromones. The oppressive aura of a B-rank Alpha filled the cabin.
The speaker immediately fell silent. He was just an ordinary Beta, with no intention of provoking an Alpha.
The Alpha waited a moment longer, and when no one else spoke up, he withdrew his pheromones.
Sheng Yu put on her noise-canceling headphones, though they did little to help. The child continued crying for another twenty minutes before finally quieting down.
As soon as the spaceship docked, Sheng Yu grabbed her luggage and hurried off. Outside, she noticed several station staff stopping the Alpha from earlier, with a strikingly beautiful girl standing beside them.
Curiosity getting the better of her, she circled back. As she approached, she heard the girl’s voice—calm, measured, and devoid of emotion.
“According to Chapter 3, Section 4, Article 6 of the Imperial Alpha Conduct Code, Alphas are prohibited from releasing pheromones indiscriminately in public spaces. Violators are subject to seven days of detention.”
“So, do you have any objections to me reporting you?”
“Damn,” Sheng Yu thought to herself, stealing another glance at the girl. She actually reported him—what guts.
The girl wore gold-rimmed glasses, her long hair cascading over her shoulders with a few strands loosely braided into small pigtails. Her pale, porcelain skin seemed to gleam under the sunlight.
Sheng Yu was about to take another look when the girl suddenly turned her sharp gaze toward her. Instinctively, Sheng Yu averted her eyes and quickened her pace, resisting the urge to glance back. Outwardly composed, inwardly, she was panicking like crazy.
Before summer break, Sheng Yu had heard rumors that No. 1 High and No. 13 High were merging. She’d dismissed it as a joke—until the official relocation notice arrived. The combined schools would retain the name No. 13 High, as it had a stronger reputation than No. 1 High, much to the humiliation of the original No. 1 students.
With the merger, the student body swelled to five thousand, making it the largest high school not just in City A but in the entire Eleventh District.
She could have stayed at home, but now she had to live on campus. She wondered who would be lucky enough to become her roommate.
After leaving the station, Sheng Yu boarded the intercity shuttle to the school. It was already packed, so she tugged her cap lower and found a secluded corner to sit.
“Sheng Yu?”
She sighed internally but still lifted her head and waved at the person who called her name. Several heads turned in her direction.
During her first year of high school, while she was playing with a cat, someone took a photo of her. The picture went viral among high schools in City A, earning her the title of “The Most Beautiful Omega in High School.” However, she still hadn’t undergone differentiation yet.
She was certain she couldn’t possibly be an Omega and had clarified it multiple times, but everyone still believed she would eventually differentiate into one. No one thought a Beta could be this stunning, nor did anyone think an Alpha could be only 160 cm tall.
It was infuriating.
The person calling her sat down beside her. Sheng Yu glanced at them and said, “Didn’t I tell you not to call my name when there are so many people around?”
This person was Liao Keke, one of Sheng Yu’s friends. The two had known each other since childhood and had been in the same class all the way through high school. In Sheng Yu’s words, their bond was purely “a twist of fate.”
Last year, Liao Keke had differentiated into an A-rank Alpha and had already been pre-admitted to the Empire’s First Military Academy. As long as she met the required scores in the college entrance exams, she would be able to enroll and begin training.
“Oops, I forgot,” Liao Keke said, tossing Sheng Yu two lollipops as consolation before taking one back, unwrapping it, and popping it into her own mouth.
Sheng Yu: “…”
“You’re getting stingier by the day.”
“As a poor person, I have to save where I can,” Liao Keke replied.
Sheng Yu smirked. “So, when are we leaving?”
“About ten more minutes,” Liao Keke said, checking the time.
“Fine.” Sheng Yu sighed, noticing someone approaching from a distance—the brave soul who had just reported the Alpha earlier. The person scanned the cabin before settling into a seat by the window. Sheng Yu wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but she felt their eyes meet again briefly.
“What’s wrong with you?”
“Nothing.” Sheng Yu shook her head and yawned. “Don’t talk to me. I’m going to sleep.”
“Is sleeping all you ever do? Don’t you have anything else going on?”
“Not really.” Sheng Yu crossed her legs lazily.
“Oh, by the way, a bunch of people from Thirteenth High have been asking me for your contact info. They’re all Alphas. Should I give it to them?”
“No.” Sheng Yu refused outright, her brows furrowing. “Actually, should I request an extra desk once school starts?”
“Huh?”
“I feel like one desk won’t be enough to hold all the gifts.” She sighed again, looking genuinely troubled.
Liao Keke: “…”
“Tch.”
The spacecraft started moving. Sheng Yu tried hard to return to her earlier dream, but alas, she never got back to dreaming about her 200 million.
Thirteenth High was already enormous, but after the merger and expansion, it had grown even bigger.
As Sheng Yu walked through the campus, she couldn’t help but remark, “Is Thirteenth High just rolling in money?”
“Pretty much,” Liao Keke agreed. “Too bad we won’t be in the same class anymore.”
“Oh, what a relief.” Sheng Yu couldn’t resist clapping her hands.
“Heartless.”
“Absolutely.” Sheng Yu grinned.
Thirteenth High separated differentiated Alphas and Omegas into different classes, while those who hadn’t differentiated yet studied alongside Betas.
The entire senior year had 137 Alphas—zero S-ranks, nine A-ranks, and the rest B-ranks. The number of Omegas was even smaller, with only 73 in the grade—zero S-ranks, two A-ranks, and the rest B-ranks.
Sheng Yu headed to her dorm according to the school’s notification and noticed that the girl from earlier went to the adjacent Alpha building.
No wonder—she was an Alpha.
The school’s dormitories were strictly divided by ABO designations, with a total of eight buildings. Alphas and Omegas each had single rooms, and to prevent pheromone interference, their buildings were placed at opposite ends of the campus, as far apart as possible. Betas occupied five buildings, being the largest group, and their dorms were four-person rooms with further subdivisions. However, since Sheng Yu wasn’t staying there, she didn’t look into the details.
She was assigned to another building, also a four-person room.
Sheng Yu opened the dorm door and glanced inside—the living conditions were much better than she had expected.
