I Marked My Arch-Nemesis Omega - Chapter 15
Sheng Yu glanced at her account balance—there was still a considerable amount of money left, enough that she’d need to count it carefully to know the exact sum.
This was all compensation money the Empire had paid out over the years. Sheng’s mother thought the money was tainted and refused to touch it, but Sheng Yu saw no reason to reject it. Why let those people off the hook? If they didn’t even take the money, then those responsible would truly suffer no consequences at all.
Sheng Yu left school and went home for a while.
When she arrived, she was surprised to see her mother there. The two of them exchanged a glance.
Her mother spoke first, her tone indifferent, more like a polite greeting between strangers: “Why are you back?”
“It’s Friday,” Sheng Yu replied.
“The school is so far from home.” Her mother leaned against the sofa, her gaze resting on Sheng Yu.
“I just suddenly felt like coming back.” Since the transaction location was near home, Sheng Yu didn’t bother explaining further and went straight to her room.
Her mother watched Sheng Yu’s retreating back and took a sip of water.
Sheng Yu lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling, thinking about how she could leave the house if her mother was home.
Her father’s death had secured new identities for Sheng Yu and her mother, as well as an illegal gland-removal surgery for her mother, who was an Omega. Since then, Sheng Yu had watched her mother grow increasingly erratic, her moods swinging unpredictably between highs and lows.
Sheng Yu could hardly remember the last time they had gotten along peacefully.
Her mother despised her Omega identity. Sheng Yu didn’t dare imagine what her mother might do if she presented as an Omega. But even if she became an Alpha, her mother would probably lose it just the same.
Being a Beta was definitely the safest option.
Sheng Yu clasped her hands together.
“Please,” she whispered, “let me present as a Beta.”
That evening, Sheng Yu left her room for dinner. Her mother had ordered takeout. The two of them sat at the table in silence. After the meal, her mother returned to her room and didn’t come out again. Sheng Yu exhaled in relief, cleared the table, and slipped out an hour before the agreed-upon time.
The vial of high-grade suppressants was small and portable, with a built-in needle. After inspecting the goods, Sheng Yu left quickly, returned home, and stashed the purchase away.
The next day, after lunch, Sheng Yu left the house. Her mother had asked if she was heading back to school in the afternoon, and Sheng Yu didn’t have the heart to say no.
But she didn’t go back to school. She had rented an apartment in a neighborhood near the commercial district and usually spent her weekends there. She had planned to grab some food from the shopping street, but after walking a short distance, she spotted Song Qing in the distance, entering a shop.
Sheng Yu walked over and raised an eyebrow. She hadn’t expected Song Qing to like this kind of place.
The shop was called “Fluffy,” a place where customers could pet furry animals—a popular spot for relaxation.
After a moment’s thought, Sheng Yu pushed the door open, paid the fee, and entered after sanitizing her hands.
The interior was spacious, filled with all kinds of fluffy creatures—white, yellow, black—and plenty of people.
It took Sheng Yu a while to find Song Qing, who was surrounded by animals, one particularly cat-like creature cradled in her arms.
“President Song, what a coincidence.”
Song Qing had noticed Sheng Yu the moment she walked in but hadn’t greeted her. It was obvious Sheng Yu had been looking for someone—she just hadn’t expected it to be her.
“So the president also likes places like this.” Sheng Yu sat down not far from Song Qing, shaking the food in her hand. Soon, half of the fluffy creatures surrounding Song Qing wandered away.
Song Qing frowned slightly and glanced at Sheng Yu. “Just here to relax. Did you see me outside?”
“Mhm.” Sheng Yu picked up the little fox rubbing against her leg. “Ah, I didn’t really plan to follow you, but you know, I just couldn’t bear not seeing the president for a whole day. So here I am.”
Song Qing: “…”
Indeed, compared to humans, animals were far more adorable. Song Qing gave the well-behaved one in her arms a few more affectionate strokes.
Sheng Yu ordered a coffee, propping her chin on her hand as she spaced out, idly petting the little fox in her grasp. Seemingly unsatisfied with the texture, she soon swapped it for another.
Song Qing had assumed Sheng Yu came over to say something, but in the end, she just sat there. Song Qing stole several glances at her.
There was no denying it—Sheng Yu was stunning. Whether in profile or full face, her features were flawless. The light spilled over her, gilding her entire figure, making her seem almost otherworldly.
No wonder people always assumed she’d present as an Omega. Only Omegas had such delicate beauty. Alphas were generally attractive too, but they still fell slightly short compared to Omegas.
“President, why are you staring at me like that? It’s making me shy,” Sheng Yu suddenly turned her gaze toward Song Qing, then quickly lowered her head, her voice feigning bashfulness. “Didn’t you say you didn’t like me? Then why are you staring so blatantly?”
Song Qing: “…”
She had a feeling this joke would never die.
“Does looking at you have any necessary connection to liking you?” Song Qing asked.
Sheng Yu cupped her cheeks, swaying slightly. “But the way you’re looking at me… ah, it’s so embarrassing~”
Song Qing noticed others glancing their way, her ears already turning red. She pressed her lips together and lowered her voice. “Could you act normal for once?”
Sheng Yu laughed. “President, are you really that thin-skinned?”
Song Qing took a deep breath and decided to stop engaging. She lowered her head, focusing entirely on the fluffy creature in her lap.
Sheng Yu yawned, glancing at the now-sleeping ball of fur on her leg. A smirk tugged at her lips as she gave its ears a couple of playful tugs. The little creature shook its head sleepily and nuzzled into her palm.
Song Qing was loyal to just the one in her lap, while Sheng Yu cycled through them one after another. The moment one got comfortable under her touch, she’d immediately switch to another, leaving the half-pleased fluffballs staring at her with wide, hopeful eyes, lined up in a row as if trying to appeal to her conscience through sheer willpower.
Song Qing: “…”
“You’re terrible,” Song Qing couldn’t help but mutter.
“This is called ‘showering affection equally,’” Sheng Yu cheerfully swapped to yet another fluffy companion.
Song Qing: “…”
Song Qing had a feeling Sheng Yu would soon be mobbed by the disgruntled fluffballs and subtly inched further away.
By that afternoon, Sheng Yu had successfully earned the collective resentment of most of the creatures there.
Song Qing suspected that if Sheng Yu ever returned, none of them would willingly approach her again. This woman was truly shameless.
“Ah, it’s already so late. What a wonderfully happy afternoon spent with the president,” Sheng Yu flashed Song Qing a bright, eight-toothed grin.
Song Qing: “…”
“Would the president like to have dinner together?”
From Sheng Yu’s expression, Song Qing couldn’t tell at all whether she genuinely wanted to eat with her or was just making casual conversation. She felt that no matter how she responded, Sheng Yu would have a retort ready.
“President, why are you staring at me like that again?” Sheng Yu asked with a smile.
Song Qing: “…”
“If you have something to say, just say it. It’s fine if you refuse.” Sheng Yu thought back to the first time she saw Song Qing in the cafeteria, her lips curling downward slightly. “After all, we’re different. What I like to eat might not be to your taste. Goodbye.”
Song Qing keenly noticed the momentary shift in Sheng Yu’s mood. She wanted to say something, but Sheng Yu had already turned and walked away, quickly disappearing into the crowd.
Song Qing: ???
Why did this person’s mood change so quickly? She hadn’t even said a word yet.
