I Marked My Arch-Nemesis Omega - Chapter 16
Song Qing didn’t dwell on it for too long. In her eyes, Sheng Yu was indeed a peculiar existence—many of her actions defied logic, making it impossible to discern her intentions or desires. She seemed utterly aimless.
Sheng Yu bought a pile of snacks and carried them home.
The rented apartment was fully furnished but lacked any warmth, feeling cold and sterile. Though the indoor climate control was on, there was still a lingering chill. She sat on the floor and randomly picked a movie to watch.
The film starred a bunch of popular celebrities—visually stunning, with beautiful actors—but the plot was utterly baffling. A liked B, B liked C, C liked A, but A’s family wanted A to be with D, so C killed D, and B was somehow related to D…
At first, Sheng Yu could follow the tangled relationships, but after just one glance away to take a bite of food, she lost track entirely. The rest of the movie passed in a haze of confusion.
If you called it a romantic urban drama, the character relationships were so convoluted they fried your brain. If you called it a brain-burning thriller, the core of the story was disappointingly shallow.
Sheng Yu silently gave it a one-star “rave” review:
“Keep trying, screenwriter. Next time, aim for a love-hate entanglement between ten people. I’ve already got my pen and paper ready.”
She rubbed her neck and patted her pockets before remembering she still had five vials of suppressants on her. She stored four at home and carefully tucked the last one into a hidden pocket in her clothes.
The official schedule for the physical fitness exams had been announced. Sheng Yu’s class was scheduled for Thursday, while others were spread across Tuesday and Wednesday.
On Thursday, their class followed right after the Alpha class, giving them a front-row seat to the Alphas’ performance.
“Every single one of them moves like they’re flying.”
“It’s terrifying. How do they make it look so effortless?”
“The disparity is real. Following them just makes us look pathetic.”
Whispers buzzed around her.
Sheng Yu’s gaze lingered on Song Qing, who wasn’t wearing her glasses today. Without them, her eyes looked sharper, more piercing. Her movements were light and swift, her limbs slender, her form more graceful than the others. She didn’t seem particularly powerful—until the final obstacle, which she kicked aside with such force that no one doubted her strength. More than a few winced, as if feeling the impact in their own chests.
“What does Song Qing’s pheromone smell like?” Sheng Yu asked Zhang Yunsu beside her.
Zhang Yunsu thought for a moment, then shook her head. “Song Qing has incredible control over her pheromones. I don’t think she’s ever let them slip. That kind of thing is private—if the person doesn’t reveal it, no one can know.”
“That secretive?” Sheng Yu was mildly surprised. “Impressive…”
Some Alphas leaked pheromones when excited—like now, with the air thick with various scents. If an Omega were here, it could spell trouble. Even some Betas were starting to feel uncomfortable.
Three years without a single slip—Song Qing really was something else.
The physical exam results were announced on the spot. Unsurprisingly, Song Qing scored an A+. She held a water bottle, standing alone at the edge of the crowd, keeping her distance from the other Alphas. The moment their teacher dismissed them, she left without hesitation.
Sheng Yu watched Song Qing’s retreating figure.
The staff quickly cleaned up the area, and once the lingering pheromones from the previous Alphas had mostly dissipated, their exam began.
“Teacher, can’t we rest a little longer? I’m still feeling unwell.”
“On the battlefield, no one will give you time to recover,” the teacher replied, waving a hand dismissively. “Groups of five, according to the list.”
“The other classes won’t have to deal with this kind of interference.”
“Don’t want to take the exam? Then you get a zero.”
The complainers immediately fell silent.
The exam only evaluated completion time, with no other requirements. The first group all finished in forty minutes.
During the second group, one person directly stepped over their teammate to cross the mud pit. The crowd was stunned, and the teammate who had been stepped on began shouting in protest. But seeing the teacher’s indifferent reaction, they quickly realized it was allowed within the rules.
This hadn’t happened in the Alpha group earlier—since everyone was fast, disrupting others might have backfired. But for the Betas, it was different.
“This is bad. If this keeps up…” Zhang Yunsu had a sinking feeling.
She was in the third group. Right from the start, she didn’t rush forward, waiting until she had some distance from those ahead before pushing forward. Sure enough, the same thing happened as in the previous group.
This kind of tactic widened the gap between the stragglers and the frontrunners, making it harder for those stuck in the mud pit to recover. The number of failures skyrocketed, and Zhang Yunsu barely scraped by the passing mark.
It was like opening Pandora’s box—once malice took root, it was hard to suppress.
Sheng Yu was in the fifth group. Seeing how many had secured good scores through such methods, some grew envious.
“Don’t even think about dragging me down. I’m not worried about failing, but if you try to pull me back, I’ll make sure you fail with me,” Sheng Yu said with a smile. “Why not keep things civil? Everyone passes, everyone’s happy.”
“I agree. Harmony is better, especially since we’re all at a similar level,” another added.
When the teacher signaled the start, they all took off. Despite the agreement, someone still reached out with ill intent. Sheng Yu promptly kicked the person trying to grab her foot off the two-meter-high platform, stomping twice on their shoulder without mercy.
The safety measures here were solid—no need to worry about injuries from falls.
Sheng Yu scaled the five-meter-high platform, dropped down swiftly, and sprinted to the next obstacle. She shook her rope-burned hands and glanced back—she was in first place, with a significant lead over the second.
Checking the wall clock, she deliberately slowed her pace, maintaining the gap. At eighteen minutes, she cleared all obstacles, earning a B.
Rubbing her wrist, Sheng Yu shot a look at the person who had tried to trip her up—now in third place, likely after sabotaging someone else.
“You okay?” Zhang Yunsu asked.
Sheng Yu shook her head. Since the Beta group’s exam took longer, those who finished could leave. With no interest in watching the rest, she walked out with Zhang Yunsu.
“Bai Ying is lucky, she’s in the first group,” Zhang Yunsu sighed. “It’s just a monthly exam, why go to such lengths? Ren Jin is in the last group, and I don’t know how she’ll manage. I can’t stand to watch.”
“When that person grabbed your foot earlier, it scared me to death. I was so afraid he’d pull you down,” Zhang Yunsu said with a look of disgust. “He usually seems so honest.”
“Do I look like the kind of person who’d ruthlessly kick someone down?” Sheng Yu smiled innocently.
“True,” Zhang Yunsu replied, thinking of Sheng Yu’s usual antics. Even though she knew Sheng Yu wasn’t that fragile, she still instinctively categorized her as someone who needed protection.
“Sheng Yu, wasn’t your kick a bit too harsh? Was it really necessary?”
Sheng Yu glanced at the person blocking her path—the so-called “honest” guy Zhang Yunsu had mentioned earlier. His eyes were bloodshot, his face contorted with rage, looking anything but honest.
Just as Sheng Yu was about to speak, Zhang Yunsu cut in: “How dare you come confront her? Weren’t you the one who started with those underhanded tricks?”
“I was wrong, but was she right? We’re all classmates—was it necessary?” The other person rubbed his shoulder, which was undoubtedly swollen by now.
“Absolutely,” Sheng Yu said softly, her gaze fixed on him. “In a year, we’ll all go our separate ways. I don’t care who you are. And I warned you before, didn’t I? Don’t try to act chummy with me. We’re not close.”
“I never thought you’d be this kind of person. Vicious.”
Zhang Yunsu glared, ready to argue further, but Sheng Yu stopped her.
“Yes, yes. You can grab me, you can scheme to make me fail, but I can’t fight back. If I do, I’m the vicious one. Fine, then I’m vicious. You’re not—you’re kind-hearted, you just got two people to fail.” Sheng Yu scoffed. “As expected, people with low moral standards love to hold others to impossibly high ones.”
Sheng Yu pulled Zhang Yunsu away. The student council was swamped today—several violent brawls had broken out in the Beta class, all involving group fights, turning the place into utter chaos.
Jiang Di leaned on the balcony railing, looking down at the row of students being reprimanded by Song Qingxun in the courtyard, his expression dripping with disdain. “Typical Betas. Not a single one of them is worth anything.”
Liao Keke, passing by, paused and glanced downstairs. Not spotting Sheng Yu, she relaxed.
“Hey, you.” Jiang Di suddenly turned to Liao Keke, eyeing her up and down. “You’re Sheng Yu’s friend?”
Liao Keke’s expression stiffened. “Yeah…”
