I Marked My Arch-Nemesis Omega - Chapter 37
Actually, Sheng Yu didn’t want to be like this. Though she was quite wild, she usually acted out according to her own thoughts. This feeling of being completely controlled by instinct was unbearable—what difference was there between losing control of herself and an animal?
She was still struggling to suppress it, barely maintaining the ability to think, even though her body wasn’t entirely under her control. Right now, she just wanted to get through this damned differentiation period as quickly as possible.
Sheng Yu felt as if she had been split in two, with the two halves arguing in her head, giving her a headache.
Song Qing could also sense Sheng Yu’s restlessness. She gently stroked Sheng Yu’s hair and said, “It’s fine if we stay on the ship a little longer… There’s no need to rush.”
Sheng Yu didn’t respond, only biting her lower lip. It wasn’t that she was in a hurry—and besides, she glanced at Song Qing—the student council president looked far more anxious than she did.
The differentiation period was long, so long that it left one utterly exhausted. Sheng Yu wasn’t enjoying it, and Song Qing wasn’t comfortable either. Though she could tell this stubborn person was trying her best, well… some things just couldn’t be helped no matter how hard one tried.
Song Qing didn’t dare complain. Sheng Yu was already irritable enough—criticism might just make her explode. And given how awkward she was acting, it might even scare her off.
Though this was her first time trying this kind of activity, Song Qing still had a sense of what was normal. To be honest, she couldn’t even bring herself to praise it.
The two of them lay in bed, Sheng Yu’s head feeling heavy and muddled. Song Qing struggled to sit up and turned on the air purification system before lying back down.
“What time is it?” Sheng Yu asked, shielding her eyes from the harsh light.
“Nine at night.”
Sheng Yu sighed. They had long missed the time to disembark. She had originally wanted to finish within half an hour—who knew it would drag on for so long?
Honestly, if she tried to recall it now, she wouldn’t even remember what she had done.
Song Qing turned her head to look at Sheng Yu. “What are you planning to do? Keep hiding it?”
“Yeah,” Sheng Yu replied.
Song Qing was silent for a moment. “You don’t seem like the type who’s afraid of going to the frontlines. S-rank treatment is pretty good.”
“Did you pretend to be an Alpha just for the benefits?” Sheng Yu cut her off.
“No.”
Sheng Yu chuckled.
“Then you—”
“Just act like you don’t know. I’ll also pretend I don’t know you’re an Omega,” Sheng Yu said. “Don’t ask anymore… Unless, can you help me keep my identity a secret?”
Song Qing hesitated for a moment. “Sorry, I don’t have that kind of influence.”
For something like this, she’d have to rely on her family. After the disgraceful performance in the last competition, her family probably didn’t even want to see her. Getting this room had already required a lot of favors.
Besides, if the Song family helped Sheng Yu, she’d likely be tied to them for life—assuming, of course, that Sheng Yu could bring them significant benefits. Otherwise, the Songs wouldn’t lift a finger for her. They wouldn’t even spare her a glance.
“Actually, I’ve already found someone to help me,” Sheng Yu said. “Just don’t say anything. I want to pass as an ordinary Beta in public from now on.”
Song Qing was surprised. The mysteries around Sheng Yu only seemed to deepen. “Then how are you going to explain your sudden growth spurt?”
Sheng Yu paused. “Betas can grow too, can’t they?”
“Not that much.”
“Anything is possible. You might even break the Omega limit and grow to 1.7 meters.” Sheng Yu removed her hand and looked at Song Qing. “By the way… President, aren’t you tired at all?”
“Not really.” Just a bit sore in the waist, that’s all. Song Qing continued, “Let’s rest for a bit before leaving the ship.”
“Mm.” Sheng Yu responded.
Song Qing keenly sensed that Sheng Yu was in a bad mood.
Sheng Yu genuinely couldn’t understand—perhaps, as Bai Ying had said, their relationship was just strange. “Honestly, I still don’t get why you helped me.”
“Some things don’t need to be questioned so deeply.” Song Qing stood up, glanced at the clothes Sheng Yu had torn, pursed her lips, and couldn’t help muttering, “Not very skilled, but plenty strong.”
“What did you say?” Sheng Yu had always had sharp senses, and after differentiation, they’d become even sharper. Song Qing’s words had clearly reached her ears.
A normal person might have pretended not to hear—it was awkward, after all—but Sheng Yu wasn’t exactly normal.
Song Qing said, “Nothing.”
She pulled two spare outfits from the closet, tossed them to Sheng Yu, then headed into the bathroom.
Sheng Yu’s expression darkened. She took a deep breath, rested her head on her hands, and stared at the ceiling before glancing at the bathroom in the distance.
This inexplicable relationship had begun.
Alphas really were a curse.
How could Song Qing stay so calm?
Song Qing soon emerged from the bathroom, fully dressed. Sheng Yu took a quick shower as well, and by the time she came out, the entire room had been cleaned up.
When they left the room, the ship was already empty, including the crew. Sheng Yu and Song Qing exited through a small door—outside, the sky was completely dark.
Sheng Yu kept glancing at Song Qing. She’d often seen posts about how Omegas would be so weak the next day they couldn’t stand and needed days to recover. But Song Qing looked completely fine, as if she could even continue basic training.
“Stop staring at me.” Song Qing felt uncomfortable under Sheng Yu’s gaze.
Sheng Yu raised an eyebrow. “So, what exactly is our relationship now?”
“Ordinary schoolmates.”
Sheng Yu: “…”
“You could hear that from so far away?”
“Someone else told me.”
Sheng Yu: “…”
Sheng Yu chuckled. “Ah, well, you are the president. I was afraid calling you a friend might upset you.”
Song Qing didn’t respond to the joke, looking at her seriously instead.
“You don’t need to feel burdened, nor do you have to say you’ll take responsibility for me. The fact that I chose to pose as an Alpha proves I was never planning to follow the Omega path.” Song Qing continued, “Besides, this was just a temporary mark. Thanks to you, I won’t need suppressants for the next three months.”
“Fine.” Sheng Yu’s lips twitched, her smile fading. “Then let’s just act normal.”
For some reason, she felt a little unhappy, but she quickly suppressed the emotion.
“Mm.” Song Qing noticed Sheng Yu’s mood but didn’t comment this time.
The two found a random restaurant to eat. Song Qing didn’t have much of an appetite and soon set down her chopsticks, staring blankly at the table.
“Want to go see the cats?” Sheng Yu asked.
“Sure.” Song Qing agreed.
“Then eat a bit more.”
Song Qing glanced at Sheng Yu. Although she really didn’t feel like eating, she still took a couple more bites—half-heartedly, at best.
When Sheng Yu got home and opened the door, the kitten darted out. 827 had kept the house spotless, and the kitten was healthy, having grown a bit. Perhaps because they hadn’t seen each other in a while, it meowed at Sheng Yu for a long time—probably cursing, judging by how fierce it looked.
After a while, it stopped, circled Sheng Yu once, then circled Song Qing, tilting its head as if puzzled.
Song Qing crouched in front of the kitten and tentatively reached out to pat its head. This time, the kitten didn’t shy away. Instead, it sniffed at Song Qing’s hand.
“Can it smell pheromones?” Song Qing asked curiously.
“No idea,” Sheng Yu said, crouching beside her. “But this cat is seriously too smart.”
Song Qing was pleasantly surprised. “It doesn’t seem to dislike me as much now…”
“Maybe because you smell like me?” Sheng Yu suggested.
Song Qing fell silent for a couple of seconds before glancing at Sheng Yu, who remained completely unfazed.
“Just a reasonable guess.”
Song Qing picked up the kitten and placed it on her lap.
Sheng Yu propped her chin on her hand, watching the kitten. “The president is really gentle with cats, huh.”
“Mhm.”
Despite the gentleness, the kitten soon jumped off Song Qing and tried to climb onto Sheng Yu—only for Sheng Yu to dodge.
“Are you leaving tonight?” Sheng Yu asked, glancing at Song Qing. “Want to stay over?”
Song Qing’s gaze lingered on the kitten. “Do you think it’s appropriate for us to sleep together now?”
“Sorry, my awareness of gender differences hasn’t fully adjusted yet. But it’s already very late…” Sheng Yu frowned slightly. “I’ll take the sofa, okay?”
Though she wanted to say she wouldn’t do anything to Song Qing again today, she figured it was indeed strange for an Alpha and Omega to share a bed.
“Fine.”
“No polite refusal today?”
“Didn’t you take the sofa last time too? Besides, I’m taller than you—sleeping on the sofa is uncomfortable.” Song Qing stated matter-of-factly.
Sheng Yu: “…”
She was already starting to wonder when she’d grow tall enough to look down on Song Qing, itching to sprout up right then and there.
“Fine. Since you’re here, I’ll take the chance to ask for leave. I’m going for a gender assessment tomorrow, so I won’t be at school.”
“Mhm.” Song Qing responded, waving a cat teaser as the kitten darted around. “What time?”
“Afternoon.”
“So you’re skipping morning classes?”
“Yep.” Sheng Yu looked at Song Qing, dragging out her words. “President, I think I’m tired and need a break. Besides, resting after differentiation is normal, right?”
“Oh.” Song Qing replied. “I didn’t say anything.”
Sheng Yu: “…”
Song Qing yawned.
“If you’re tired, go to bed,” Sheng Yu said.
“Mhm.” Song Qing stood up, casting several longing glances at the kitten—only for it to flick its tail and retreat into the room. “Why does it dislike me so much?”
“It’s shy.”
Song Qing: “…”
“Dislike isn’t the same as fear.” Song Qing sighed.
“Don’t overthink it. Isn’t it enough that so many other fluffy things like you? No need to fuss over this one. Go to sleep.” Sheng Yu followed Song Qing to the bedroom and grabbed a quilt.
As he stepped out of the room, Sheng Yu paused for two seconds, then turned back to glance at Song Qing. “No matter what… thank you for this time.”
“Mm.”
“If you ever need help in the future… you can come to me. As long as it’s not too unreasonable, I’ll do what I can.”
