I Married My Heartless Ex-Wife’s Black Lotus Sister - Chapter 3
Song Yanqing tilted her head slightly, her long hair cascading loosely over her shoulders. The next moment, something tiny fell from her raven-black tresses.
Zheng Yili instinctively looked over, her pupils contracting sharply.
That was…
A hearing aid!
How could a hearing aid have fallen from Song Yanqing?
Before she could dwell on the question, a surge of anger flared up in Zheng Yili’s chest. She whipped her head around, her calm, dark eyes simmering with suppressed fury. “Had enough fun?”
An Xian finally snapped out of her daze. Hurriedly scrambling to her feet, her eyes brimming with tears, she put on a meek, remorseful act and tugged at An Chenglun’s sleeve. “I’m sorry, Yili. Chenglun just acted impulsively. Please don’t take it to heart, alright?”
“After all, he’s your own brother.”
“Now that your father is gone, the two of you are all each other has left in this world.”
An Xian was desperately playing the emotional card. She knew girls like Zheng Yili valued relationships and were easily swayed by sentiment. With this approach, she was certain she could soften Zheng Yili’s heart.
“Quick, Chenglun, apologize to your sister Yili,” An Xian urged, nudging her son.
Before An Chenglun could reluctantly mumble an apology, Zheng Yili cut him off coldly. “Auntie, let me make this clear one last time—my parents only had one daughter.”
“I don’t have a brother, and I certainly won’t acknowledge some random bastard as one.”
Her gaze swept slowly over An Chenglun before settling on An Xian’s face. An Xian’s heart skipped a beat, unnerved by the look in Zheng Yili’s eyes—one that didn’t match her age, carrying the authority and indifference of someone who had held power for years.
An Xian, unwilling to give up, was about to press Zheng Yili further to accept her son when Zheng Yili’s next words left her frozen in place.
“And the person you should be apologizing to isn’t me—it’s her.”
Zheng Yili pointed at Song Yanqing, a mocking smile curling at her lips. “Do you even know who your son just hit? Song Yanqing—the eldest daughter of the Song family.”
“Lay a hand on her, and you can expect the Song family’s retaliation.”
With that, Zheng Yili stepped forward, picked up the hearing aid that had fallen from Song Yanqing, and clasped her wrist, swiftly pulling her away.
After a few steps, she turned back and ordered the security guards, “I’ve already called the police. No one is to let them leave before the officers arrive.”
The guards, now fully aware of the situation, nodded repeatedly in agreement.
If it had just been Zheng Yili they’d offended, they might have handled it casually. But now they’d struck Song Yanqing—this had escalated far beyond a simple scuffle.
This was Song Yanqing!
Given the Song family’s notorious vindictiveness, these two would be lucky to escape with their skins intact.
The onlookers, realizing the same, cast pitying glances at An Xian and her son.
An Xian grew flustered under their stares. With her plans foiled, she tried to drag her son away, only to be immediately blocked by the guards. “Sorry, ma’am, but you’ll have to cooperate with us.”
“If you insist on forcing your way out, we won’t hesitate to act.”
An Xian’s face turned ashen.
After leading Song Yanqing away from the trouble, Zheng Yili shook off her wrist. “I didn’t need you to stand up for me,” she said coldly, staring straight at Song Yanqing’s jade-like face that carried an indescribable tenderness.
Had Song Yanqing not suddenly appeared, she might have already punched An Chenglun with all her pent-up grievances from past and present.
In her previous life, because she hadn’t severed ties with An Xian in time, the shameless woman had openly moved into her home with her son and refused to leave. An Chenglun, raised lawlessly by his father, had turned the company into complete chaos.
At that time, Zheng Yili had just caught a cold and was physically weak. It took tremendous effort to regain control of the company and make the mother-son pair behave.
Recalling these past events, Zheng Yili’s delicately arched eyebrows furrowed tightly.
Song Yanqing quietly observed her. The faint warmth from Zheng Yili’s touch still lingered on her wrist, along with the soft, fragrant sensation of hand cream from her fingertips.
She could see Zheng Yili was troubled, though her own actions had been purely impulsive. Before she could react, her body had moved on its own—even surprising herself momentarily.
Fortunately, An Chenglun wasn’t particularly strong, and her arm had partially blocked the blow, so Song Yanqing didn’t feel much pain. Yet her actions seemed to have caused Zheng Yili distress.
“Sorry,” Song Yanqing said softly after a moment’s consideration, her voice gentle. “I caused you trouble.”
Zheng Yili snapped out of her memories and lifted her gaze, her eyes filled with confusion and complexity as she stared at Song Yanqing. Why was she apologizing?
“I didn’t ask for your apology.”
Zheng Yili kept a stern face but couldn’t help lecturing her: “Are you an idiot? Someone raises a fist, and you still step forward?”
“That bastard is young and weak. If it were someone stronger, would you even be standing here unharmed?”
She went on for a while, but when she unexpectedly met Song Yanqing’s light tea-colored eyes, her words died away.
“Sorry, I can’t hear,” Song Yanqing apologized again.
Zheng Yili: “…”
Forget it. Why bother saying so much to someone who couldn’t hear?
She held out the hearing aid in her palm and returned it to Song Yanqing. “Check if it’s broken. If it is, I’ll replace it.”
Almost finishing her sentence, Zheng Yili remembered the other couldn’t hear her at all and closed her mouth resentfully. Instead, she stood on tiptoe, parted Song Yanqing’s thick black hair, and tried to reinsert the hearing aid.
Song Yanqing didn’t resist, standing obediently still. Sensing the height difference, she even considerately bent her back slightly and lowered her head to make it easier for Zheng Yili.
As the distance closed, Zheng Yili caught the faint, comforting scent of ripe nuts and sandalwood from Song Yanqing—soft, mellow, and soothing.
Zheng Yili’s mind wandered briefly at the inopportune moment, but Song Yanqing didn’t rush her. When Zheng Yili refocused and adjusted the hearing aid, she looked up at Song Yanqing with a trace of expectation. “Well? Can you hear now?”
Song Yanqing watched her glossy, lacquered lips part slightly before slowly shaking her head.
Zheng Yili felt a pang of disappointment. She wanted to ask when exactly Song Yanqing had lost her hearing, but considering their current relationship, such a question felt too intrusive and impolite.
After taking a deep breath, she turned and directly dialed Song Qi’an: “Your sister’s in trouble. Get here now.”
Without waiting for a response, she abruptly ended the call.
Ji Wushuang had already rushed over upon hearing the reports. Facing An Xian—the suspected homewrecker and mother of her husband’s illegitimate child—she showed no mercy.
When the police arrived, Ji Wushuang stepped forward to explain the situation and contacted the Song family matriarch.
An Xian paled at the sight of that phone call, instinctively preparing to plead for mercy. Unfortunately, Ji Wushuang saw right through her and walked away without giving her a chance to speak.
With the two taken away by the police, the hall fell silent again.
Ji Wushuang checked on her daughter and Song Yanqing, ensuring they were unharmed, then returned to receiving funeral guests.
Zheng Yili wasn’t sure if Song Qi’an would come, given how entangled he was with Lin Xiaoxiao at the moment. She smirked bitterly, already considering whether she should personally escort Song Yanqing home if he failed to show.
Fortunately, though lust had clouded his judgment, Song Qi’an still cared for his sister.
Upon receiving the alert, Zheng Yili immediately had someone bring him over. Head bowed over her phone, she was reviewing the inheritance documents her lawyer had prepared, missing the hesitant look on his face.
Only when Song Qi’an entered did she notice the familiar, fragile figure trailing behind him. Her expression darkened instantly.
“Song Qi’an, what is she doing at my father’s funeral?”
“Sis, it’s not what you think—don’t misunderstand Qi’an!” Lin Xiaoxiao stepped forward bravely but was lazily pulled back by Song Qi’an.
Glancing at him and finding no intention to speak or release her, she sighed and turned back. “He didn’t mean to. We were just passing by after an event…”
“Enough,” Song Qi’an drawled, cutting her off. “Just a coincidence.”
Then, turning to Song Yanqing, his tone indifferent: “Jie, can’t you handle even this? No bodyguards? Getting beaten in broad daylight?”
Song Yanqing, unable to hear, remained still. Zheng Yili’s temper flared. “Song Qi’an, did you bring her here to humiliate us? After everything my father did for you, this is how you repay him?”
“You couldn’t even be bothered to pay your respects, and now you show up with your mistress on the day of his funeral. Is this how you honor his kindness?”
Then, shifting her glare to Lin Xiaoxiao: “And you—stop calling me ‘sis.’ My mother never had any long-lost daughters.”
“What a day. Everyone suddenly wants to claim Madam Ji as their mother.”
Zheng Yili’s tone was icy and laced with mockery, far from friendly. Song Qi’an gave her a sidelong glance and said coolly, “Did you eat firecrackers? Why so explosive?”
“Song Qi’an.” Zheng Yili didn’t engage in bickering but instead called his name with sudden gravity. “Let’s call off our engagement.”
Lin Xiaoxiao’s eyes flickered with fleeting delight upon hearing this.
Song Qi’an’s usual languid demeanor vanished instantly, his face darkening unconsciously. “What did you say?”
“I said, let’s cancel our engagement.” Zheng Yili met his gaze squarely. “Years ago, Grandpa passed away, and now my father is gone too. Arranged marriages are feudal relics that hold no weight.”
“Besides, neither of us has any feelings left for the other…”
As Zheng Yili’s tone grew increasingly resolute, Song Qi’an’s expression darkened further as he cut her off sharply. “I refuse.”
