I Married My Heartless Ex-Wife’s Black Lotus Sister - Chapter 5
After being forcibly taken away by the police, An Xian’s face alternated between pale and flushed.
Before Zheng Huai passed away, he had doted on her immensely, granting her every wish. She had been with Zheng Huai right after graduating from university, by which time he had already taken over his in-laws’ company and was exceedingly wealthy.
Zheng Huai had never shortchanged An Xian materially.
Though they didn’t spend much time together, the financial support ensured An Xian was always surrounded by flattery and admiration wherever she went. Being humiliated like this was a first in over a decade.
Recalling Zheng Yili’s cold, unyielding expression, An Xian clenched her teeth.
“We really didn’t mean to cause trouble,” An Xian replied tearfully to the police’s questioning, putting on a pitiful act. “We just wanted to reconnect with family.”
“Reconnect?” The young officer had already learned the truth from bystanders and scoffed at An Xian’s excuses.
She had never heard someone describe homewrecking and breaking up a marriage so euphemistically.
“I don’t care whether you were reconnecting or doing something else. Your son assaulted someone—that’s undeniable, isn’t it?”
“My son was just worried about me in the heat of the moment. He didn’t mean to!” An Xian hurriedly defended him. Terrified her precious son might face consequences, she immediately took the blame. “It’s all my fault, all my fault!”
“If you need to detain someone, detain me! I’ll take my son’s place!”
Her incessant sobbing gave the interrogating officer a headache. “That’s not up to you.”
“But don’t worry,” the officer added with a sudden smirk. “Though your son will be detained for his actions, you won’t be spared either.”
“Haven’t you heard? The Song family protects their own. So rest assured, Auntie, when they seek justice for Miss Song, they won’t forget about you.”
The words sent a chill down An Xian’s spine.
A flash of resentment crossed her eyes—this was all Zheng Yili’s fault. If Zheng Yili hadn’t dragged Song Yanqing into this, how could she and her son have ended up in such a predicament?
With the facts clear, the officer had no patience left for further nonsense.
Pushing back her chair, she stood and immediately pulled out her phone upon leaving the interrogation room. “Cousin, how do you want to handle that An Xian woman?”
Song Yanqing glanced at the message. “Follow standard procedure. Handle it according to regulations.”
“Got it!”
“Cousin, it’s been ages since you’ve visited! When do you have time to come over? I’ll cook you some spicy crayfish.”
Song Lin added eagerly, “Bring Qi’an-jie along!”
“No time,” Song Yanqing replied.
Song Lin frowned at the response. “Is it you who’s busy, or Qi’an-jie? Speaking of which… is the rumor about Qi’an-jie and that minor celebrity Lin Xiaoxiao true?”
After a long silence with no reply, Song Lin pieced together the answer.
She scowled. “Qi’an-jie is really too much. How can she openly flirt with other women like this? What will Li-li think? Li-li adores her, and they’re even engaged!”
“If you’re that bored, I can ask Grandpa to transfer you to another department.”
“No, no, absolutely not.” Song Lin shuddered on the spot and hurriedly refused, “Cousin, I’ll go get busy now. Please make yourself at home and have a pleasant day!”
The phone stopped vibrating, and no more messages from Song Lin popped up.
Song Yanqing set the phone aside and looked up at the doctor again. “Well?”
“We can only send it back to the factory to see if it can be repaired. If not, we’ll have to make a new one,” the doctor replied while typing on the keyboard.
“Alright.” Song Yanqing nodded, her expression unsurprised. “Make a few more this time, just in case.”
The doctor agreed.
Normally, Song Yanqing kept spare hearing aids, so the damaged one today didn’t affect her much. She stood up, bid the doctor farewell, and instead of heading straight to Zheng Yili’s place to help, she went home first.
Madam Song happened to be there. When she saw Song Yanqing, a flicker of displeasure crossed her face, but she quickly masked it. “Yanqing, you need to pay more attention to Qi’an’s matters.”
“You’re the older sister, and you know how busy Qi’an is with work—she doesn’t have the energy to handle other things. Mom doesn’t expect you to contribute much to the family, but I do hope you can help her sort out her relationship issues properly.”
Song Yanqing slowly came to a stop, her light tea-colored eyes fixed unblinkingly on the other woman.
Madam Song felt slightly unnerved by her gaze but didn’t dwell on it, continuing earnestly, “Mom knows you’re a sensible child, so you’ll definitely help your sister smooth things over with Yili, won’t you?”
“I’ll have someone handle the rumors about Qi’an and that actress, and I’ll talk to Qi’an properly. But I still can’t get through to Yili, so…”
Her implication was obvious. Song Yanqing lowered her lashes evenly. “Understood. I’ll go over later.”
“Thank you for your trouble.” Madam Song’s smile returned, but Song Yanqing didn’t leave immediately. Instead, she said calmly, “But since Qi’an has repeatedly wronged Yili, shouldn’t she compensate her in some way?”
Madam Song hadn’t considered this. Her smile froze momentarily.
A simple peace offering wasn’t a big deal, so she waved dismissively. “Handle it as you see fit. As long as Yili stops being upset with Qi’an, anything will do.”
Song Yanqing nodded and finally moved to leave.
Madam Song tilted her head slightly, her gaze lingering on the woman’s tall, slender, and aloof figure as she walked away, her eyes unreadable.
Song Yanqing had no intention of brushing Zheng Yili off carelessly. After summoning the butler, she listed out a set of items for him to prepare as compensation.
The butler glanced at the list and hesitated. “Miss, isn’t this a bit too extravagant?”
The full set of diamond and gemstone jewelry, though never worn, had been purchased at auction for a hefty sum. To give it away so casually to an outsider…
Song Yanqing glanced at him indifferently. “Then go ask Mother.”
Ask Madam Song?
The butler wouldn’t dare bother her with such trivial matters. After a brief silence, he conceded. “I’ll prepare it right away.”
Song Yanqing paid him no further mind. Standing by the window, she gazed at the roses blooming on the trellis, her thoughts drifting far away.
Zheng Yili was extremely busy, not only handling the inheritance matters but also receiving guests alongside Ji Wushuang.
Fortunately, most visitors didn’t stay long. After offering brief condolences to the mother and daughter, they gradually left in small groups, finally giving Zheng Yili and Ji Wushuang a moment to rest.
The lawyer had already sent the inheritance list and contracts to Zheng Yili’s email. After carefully reviewing them, she switched back to WeChat to reply.
Just then, a friend request popped up.
Neither the nickname nor the profile picture gave any clue about the sender’s identity. Zheng Yili thought for a moment, accepted the request, but didn’t immediately greet the person or ask their intentions.
She remained calm and composed, but Lin Xiaoxiao couldn’t hold back.
Seeing that Zheng Yili showed no intention of initiating a conversation, Lin Xiaoxiao took the lead: “Hello, Miss Zheng. I’m Lin Xiaoxiao.”
“I sincerely apologize for today’s incident. Qi’an didn’t mean any harm. If my presence has upset you or caused any misunderstanding between you and Qi’an, I’m truly sorry.”
Lin Xiaoxiao was adept at using such tactics to provoke others. Zheng Yili’s expression darkened as she stared at the chat for a while before ignoring it and turning her attention back to the lawyer.
The family’s small businesses were relatively easy to sell. After checking the prices, Zheng Yili agreed readily and scheduled a contract signing with the lawyer.
Lin Xiaoxiao waited for nearly half an hour, growing increasingly impatient at the lack of response. “Miss Zheng, I know you don’t like me, but rest assured, Qi’an and I are just friends.”
“Lately, we’ve been spending more time together only because I recently signed with her company. She’s just doing her job by helping me secure resources for faster career growth.”
Her phone kept chiming incessantly. Zheng Yili glanced at it, unfazed, and replied: “Noted.”
Lin Xiaoxiao: “…”
Why wasn’t she getting angry?
Rumors had it that Zheng Yili was obsessively in love with Song Qi’an, to the point of hostility toward any woman who appeared near her.
Lin Xiaoxiao was baffled.
The old Zheng Yili would have lashed out with hundreds of insults and pestered Song Qi’an endlessly. But after reliving her past life, Zheng Yili had seen through Song Qi’an’s indifference and had been deeply wounded by her disdain.
Love couldn’t be forced. No matter how hard she tried, she would never win Song Qi’an’s heart.
Since emotions couldn’t be controlled, it was better to let go—for Song Qi’an’s sake, and for her own.
Zheng Yili’s unwavering love for Song Qi’an had died with her suicide. Now, though the sight of Song Qi’an might still ache faintly, the once-consuming passion was truly gone.
Song Qi’an was like a festering wound—only by enduring the pain, lancing it, and draining it completely could she fully heal.
Now, faced with Lin Xiaoxiao’s provocations, Zheng Yili found them utterly tedious.
Realizing her petty tactics weren’t working, Lin Xiaoxiao soon made another move. In a group chat Zheng Yili frequented—one that included Song Qi’an—someone uploaded photos of Song Qi’an gazing tenderly at Lin Xiaoxiao, her arm wrapped intimately around her.
The two stood close together, their subtle expressions and the emotions in their eyes pushing the ambiguous tension between adults to its peak.
Zheng Yili almost laughed out loud at the sight. Without hesitation, she typed back: “Congratulations to the happy couple—may you stay together for a hundred years.”
No one responded in the group chat, but Zheng Yili didn’t care. She exited the chat immediately.
As soon as she finished, she noticed a shadow falling over her—someone was standing in front of her, blocking the light. Raising her eyes, Zheng Yili met Song Yanqing’s face, which, as always, carried an apologetic expression. For some reason, irritation flared up inside her. “Are you here to apologize for Song Qi’an again?”
Song Yanqing nodded.
Zheng Yili’s temper instantly ignited. “Does she not have a mouth of her own? Every time, it’s you who has to sweet-talk, make excuses, and clean up her mess!”
“Song Yanqing, can’t you stop shielding and indulging her?”
“Every time we argue or clash, it’s you who steps in to smooth things over. Do you have any idea how much that made me feel like the person I was dating wasn’t her—but you?!”

Yanqing: And this is a bad thing…?
