I Married the Strongest Magician - Chapter 12
I had no idea what was going on. Was it something from last night? Did I say something?
Maybe I’m not in a position to call Cherie clueless… I might be just as bad.
Anyway, since I couldn’t figure it out, I just went out with Cherie as planned.
She was wearing a white dress with an embroidered sailor-style collar.
Compared to the clothes she used to wear when she was a noble lady, it was very simple.
It hurt a little to see her like that…
But even in a plain white dress, her beauty hadn’t faded at all.
Is that what love feels like?
No way…
There’s no way I would ever fall into something as pointless as love. I had a strange kind of confidence about that.
We rode the carriage into the center of the capital. As expected, Cherie started looking for a washboard at a laundry shop.
…Seriously? Wait, no. She was completely serious.
“Hmmm… which one is good?
I should’ve asked Anna, my maid, about this before coming…”
She said that as she carefully chose a washboard. Honestly… I thought she looked kind of cute doing it.
After paying, we were walking through the city when—
“Oh my! Big Sister Cherie!?”
A voice called out from a fancy carriage decorated with amethysts.
It was Lady Sarana from the House of Lysaria—Cherie’s younger sister.
Sarana gave a smug, mean smile and said,
“Oh my… You’re not even wearing a dress…
Did you make that shabby thing yourself?
Wait—is that a washboard!?
I’ve never used one of those before.
You’ve really fallen far, haven’t you?
Ah, but I guess you are Lady Sectis now.”
What a woman…! Even I, a man, felt disgusted by her.
Just as I was about to speak up, Cherie’s eyes turned to a burning copper color. Her hair rose, and her fire magic started going out of control.
“Cherie!
Calm down!”
I shouted to her.
“If… if you touch me, the Emperor himself won’t stay silent!!!”
Sarana gave her driver a signal to leave.
But at that moment—Cherie shot a giant firebolt straight at the carriage!
I panicked. I summoned a giant ice scythe, about five meters long, and jumped in front of the carriage. I sliced the firebolt in half before it could hit.
Cherie used up all her magic and collapsed to the ground.
“You… you’ll regret this!!! ”
Sarana shouted from the carriage as it drove away.
“Cherie!
Are you okay!?”
“…Why… why did you stop my magic…?
I wanted to kill Sarana…
And I…”
Tears of hatred flowed from her amber-colored eyes.
