I Married the Strongest Magician - Chapter 18
WHAT. A. WOMAN!!! (furious)
I finally mustered the courage to kiss her, and what does she say?
“Are you used to saying things like that? ”
WHAT KIND OF COMMENT IS THAT!?
She made me sound like some kind of lust-crazed pervert!!
These feelings of mine are pure, damn it!!! (furious furious furious)
I struggled not to let the cold magic burst out of me.
I was this close to hitting my magic boiling point.
Even after we got home, I refused to so much as look at her face and holed up in my room.
I swore I’d never do that again!!!
…Though…
The brief touch of her lips was so smooth, so soft…
If she’d smiled at me, just a little—if she’d looked even slightly bashful…
…I probably would’ve devoured those lips.
But she crushed my honest feelings.
Why?
Did I say something so awful?
I thought we’d gotten closer during the dungeon exploration.
But maybe that was just me.
I was furious…and at the time, I still didn’t understand why I was so angry.
So I sulked and went to sleep.
****
The next morning, I left for the headquarters of the Mage Corps early—just to avoid seeing her.
The headquarters were located inside the fortress of Edva Castle, where His Majesty the Emperor resided.
There were about 15 branch offices throughout the country, mostly situated in towns to help maintain order.
“The tea’s lukewarm!
Bring me something boiling hot!!! ” (furious)
I snapped at one of the Mage Corps members.
It wasn’t really about the tea… it was just me taking it out on someone.
“Hey, Rolodroa. Don’t go shaking the whole castle with your yelling first thing in the morning.”
Zen-san came in and sat down on the couch.
“What do you want?”
“Sigh… Let me guess, a lover’s quarrel with the wife?”
“What do you want!?”
“Ah, I hit the nail on the head. Anyway, I’m here about the investigation in the Cursed Forest of Lizanne yesterday. Can we skip the yelling and just get your report?”
“…At the location where the adventurer was supposedly abducted, we found traces of teleportation magic.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to track it.”
I replied as calmly as I could.
“Why couldn’t you follow it?”
“Most likely because it was a long-distance teleportation spell. Also, the destination cut off the return path.”
“I see…
Anything else unusual?”
Zen-san asked.
But honestly…
“…Could there be some kind of common trait among the abducted adventurers? ”
It annoyed me to quote her, but I decided to mention it anyway.
“Common trait…?
No, nothing so far.
Why? You got something? ”
“No. If there’s nothing, never mind.”
