I Married the Strongest Magician - Chapter 2
“An engagement…? ” That news completely caught me off guard. It came out of nowhere.
It’s not like I had promised myself to stay single forever, but I had never thought someone would arrange a marriage for me. The one who brought it up was my only superior— Commander Zens, leader of the Magic Knights.
“That’s right. An engagement. You’re already 27. It’s about time, don’t you think? Besides, it’s not a good look for the vice commander to stay single forever. Don’t worry. Once you hear who it is, you won’t be frowning anymore.”
Commander Zens said it with a grin. “I’m not good with women,” I told him.
“I mean, of course I like women in that way, but…they always want to be number one. They try to control everything. They’re greedy,” I said it, just to see what he would say.
“Your fiancée is Cherie Lysaria,” he said. “Still going to complain? ”
“Lady Cherie…? ”
Cherie…
If you’re a man, once you hear her name, you never forget her. She has perfect beauty, a brilliant mind, and powerful magic. She’s not just a noble—she’s a treasure of this kingdom. But why would someone like her… be matched with me? She was supposed to be the next head of the Lysaria family…
“Well, listen,” Zens went on.
“Everyone thought Lady Cherie was perfect to lead the Lysaria family. But—she couldn’t use their special healing magic. Because of that, she’s no longer invited to evening parties or gatherings. They say she’s been locked up in her home.
It’s cruel, don’t you think? Right when I was feeling that way, her family came to us with the proposal,” Zens continued.
“But… is someone like me really okay for her? She’s still a marquis’s daughter, after all.”
“That’s exactly why.
They can’t marry her off to a farmer, but if they send her to another noble house, it might cause trouble—revenge, shame, gossip. So a knight like you is just right. You’re the vice commander, but you don’t have land or a noble title.
Honestly, they’re underestimating you. They don’t realize you’re actually stronger than me, the commander.”
“Let’s not talk about that…”
I looked down and said quietly.
“I’m still… not ready to get married.”
“Just do it—at least on paper, and don’t forget, your fiancée is Lady Cherie.”
I let out a short sigh. That was my answer.
Well… if it’s only for appearances, I guess it’s fine.
I don’t plan to fall in love, and I’m sure she feels the same way.
This is… a political marriage.
