 We arrived in a mansion that was… decently nice.

But of course, compared to the castle of the Marquis of Lyzaria, it was practically a storage shed.

In a house this small, there’s no way we could ever host a banquet, a soirée, or a ball.

That’s right—I’m no longer a noble.

(Knightly ranks aren’t technically nobility. They’re a unique class referred to as “quasi-nobles.”)

From today onward, I’m Cherie Sectis.

With elegant poise, Lord Rolodroa gently lifted me by the waist and helped me down from the carriage.

“I could’ve gotten down on my own, you know…”

The words came out sharper than I meant.

“My apologies,” he replied.

“There was a puddle near your feet, so I acted on instinct.

Next time, I’ll let you splash through the mud. You can rest easy.”

He shot back with sarcasm.

“I—I—I didn’t notice the puddle…
Um… th-thank… you…”

My cheeks turned red as I mumbled out my gratitude.

“…You’re welcome.”

I followed him into the house.

“How many servants do you employ?

How many rooms are there? What about a chef?

I’ll manage the household smoothly, of course.”

“That would be very helpful,” he said.

“Then could you start by making dinner? ”

“…Is this some sort of joke?

Cooking is not the job of a noble—! ”

“Hmph.

So, cooking is impossible for a former noble lady, after all.

There are no servants. No chef, either. The house has eight rooms.

There’s really nothing to manage.

If anything, I’d appreciate it if you could cook, do laundry, and clean.”

My jaw dropped open.

“You’re a knight, aren’t you! And you expect me to do a maid’s work!? ”

“Don’t screech. If you can’t, I’ll do it myself.”

But this is how things are for the wife of a knight. 

 We—no, you—are no longer a noble.

That’s all I’m saying.

Pick any of the four rooms on the second floor.

Now move aside—you’re in the way of dinner.”

Lord Rolodroa tied on an apron and stepped into the kitchen.

This… this has to be a joke… right?

I felt a wave of dizziness, like I was going to faint.
