- Chapter 1 - Flowers Blooming and Disappearing in The Dormitory Room
“Alright, that should do it.”
As I tossed my belongings into a large duffel bag, the noise outside grew louder.
Then, a group of men with familiar sallow faces came into the room, forcing open the poorly fitted sliding door.
“Haah, we really drank our fill!”
“There’s nothing like drinking until dawn after a long adventure!”
“This town is for adventurers, so it’s a relief that there are many stores open all night!”
“Looks like there’s no way we’re going adventuring today! Day off, day off!”
“Let’s grab some hangover potions from a shop and more booze to get drunk again!”
The adventurers stumbled into the room, spouting nonsense. They had apparently been drinking until dawn after returning from a quest, and each collapsed onto the futons scattered across the floor.
This is a room in the super cheap lodgings where I am staying.
And they are my roommates, so to speak.
We are merely roommates, not on the same party.
But we were definitely close friends, so we sometimes went on adventures together when the mood struck.
Yesterday, I had been out, so the remaining five must have gone on an adventure without me.
The one-room space was cramped, far too small for six people to sleep sprawled out on the floor.
If you tried to stand up, you’d inevitably get slapped in the face by laundry hanging from who knows where.
The edges of our futons were tangled together in a chaotic mess, making it impossible to tell where one person’s sleeping area ended and another’s began.
As the guys who had just returned started snoring almost immediately, I continued organizing my gear, keeping an eye on them.
Noticing my actions, one of them approached me.
“Hey, Kent, what’s up? Why are you packing up your already meager belongings? Are you leaving?”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
I nodded, and he replied with a nonchalant “Oh, okay.”
This was originally a shared house for a bunch of drifters anyway.
Moving to another town, retiring from adventuring, or any number of reasons could lead someone to leave.
In fact, the six of us currently sleeping crammed together had all cycled through as roommates.
I myself had joined midway through, so now I didn’t even know who the longest-standing resident was.
Perhaps the original six who turned this cheap inn into a shared sleeping room had long since vanished.
“It’s going to be lonely here,” he muttered, sounding anything but lonely.
“Hey, you. Do you even have anywhere else to go after leaving this place? You don’t have any money anyway, right?”
He pushed himself up from his futon with a grunt, then glared at me mockingly.
“You’ve always been reckless. You’re probably just fed up with this communal sleeping arrangement and want out, but you can’t make decisions like that on a whim, you know?”
“I didn’t decide on a whim,”
Before I could elaborate, the other residents of the communal sleeping room chimed in, each voicing their own opinions.
“You always argue back when we’re just trying to help. There’s no point in giving you advice.”
“And even when we invite you on adventures, you often refuse, saying you’re not in the mood.”
“I’ve treated you before, but you’ve never treated me.”
“Besides, you’re finally looking decent today, but weren’t you wearing some seriously hideous armor just a little while ago?”
“I was thinking the same thing!”
“I’m glad someone finally said it!”
“It wasn’t just ugly—it was downright grotesque!”
“Some guys even left the room because they couldn’t stand living with that thing!”
“You guys…”
I was about to retort to my roommates’ relentless insults when—BANG!—the door to our cramped dormitory flew inward with a deafening crash.
“W-what the hell?!”
The adventurers’ screams echoed through the dimly lit room.
A rectangular section of the wall had been cleanly sliced away, revealing a bright outdoor scene beyond.
From that bright world, an Empress stood glaring into the dingy, stagnant air of the shared sleeping quarters.
“Kent, you’re late. How much longer are you planning to waste time in this dump?”
She tossed her dazzling blonde twin-tails over her shoulder and spoke with imperious authority.
It was none other than Lady Cordelia herself.
Ignoring the stunned expressions of my five former roommates, I tightened the drawstring of my pack and stood up.
“Sorry. They were sad to see me go and wouldn’t let me leave.”
“Don’t lie. I could hear them tearing you apart from outside. The walls are thin, and their voices are loud.”
“Right…”
The shared sleeping quarters had never been much to begin with.
With hardly any belongings, I slung a shoulder bag over my shoulder and stepped out of the room to stand beside Cordelia.
“By the way, why did you smash the door down?”
“It looked flimsy, and I didn’t want to bother opening it.”
“Don’t you ever think about having to fix this later?”
“Huh? Why would I? That’s the job of the guys who live here, isn’t it?”
“You really do live entirely for yourself, don’t you…”
Our… intimate exchange finally snapped my former roommates out of their daze. They approached us, looking bewildered.
“Hey, Kent! What the hell is going on? Who is that… ridiculously beautiful woman?”
“And you said you were moving out. Don’t tell me…”
They wore utterly dumbfounded expressions, clearly struggling to process what they were seeing.
Honestly, I felt a pang of guilt at further confusing them. But it was the truth, so I had no choice but to say it.
“Ah, yeah. Actually, I’m going to be living in the same room as her now.”
“HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!?”
The shock must have been considerable.
A deafening roar echoed through the surroundings, so loud it felt like the glass windows might shatter.
Cordelia, however, merely frowned, as if annoyed by the noise.
And as I stood mesmerized by her absurdly perfect beauty, even in that scowl, she said nonchalantly,
“This place is noisy and unpleasant. It’s dark and damp too. Let’s leave quickly, Kent.”
Without a second thought, she clung to my arm, pressing herself against me.
Her chest, clad only in a thin shirt without any armor, squished softly against my arm.
Witnessing this scene, those guys erupted again.
“Whyyyyyyyy?!”
…That’s right.
Starting today, I will be moving out of that cramped six-person bunkroom.
I was going to start living together with Cordelia, a party member, and my best sexual chemistry.
