I Paired Up With a Woman From an Adventurer Matchmaking App, She Had Perfect Compatibility, But the Worst Personality. When Our Erotic Compatibility Exceeded 200%, She Became the Most Obedient Team Member at Night. - Chapter 4
“It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Susie Winterson, a housemaid at the House of Salisbury.”
Sat upright on the single sofa, Susie bowed politely.
However, when she looked up again, her sharp eyes were fixed on me.
Is this what they mean when they say you can kill someone with a single glance?
Susie’s gaze fell upon Cordelia and me, seated side-by-side on the spacious couch.
No, to be precise, Cordelia was excluded. Susie’s piercing eyes were fixed solely on me.
For the record, I hadn’t had time to change after the sudden incident and was still wearing my bathrobe.
That might have contributed to Susie’s murderous glare.
Hoping to soften her intense gaze, I explained my situation to her.
“Um, I’m Kent O’Brien. I’m in an adventurer party with Cordelia.”
“You’re in a party with the Young Lady, huh?”
Susie continued to glare at me suspiciously.
She was probably worried that I might be a nuisance to Cordelia.
At least she seemed to accept my explanation that we were party members, so she didn’t immediately try to kick me out.
But the way she kept glaring at me made it clear she still wasn’t entirely satisfied.
By the way, the reason Cordelia and I were both in bathrobes was that we’d explained that we were both dirty from our adventure and had taken turns bathing.
There was no way I could honestly tell a housemaid I’d just met, “We were just bathing together!”
To avoid further questioning, I decided to change the subject.
“Um… the House of Salisbury, where Susie works as a maid—that’s Cordelia’s family name, right? So, that means…”
“Yes. I have served Lady Cordelia since she was a child, attending to her needs.”
“I see. So, the housemaid Cordelia mentioned earlier, who does the laundry—that’s you?”
“Laundry?”
Susie tilted her head, looking puzzled, but didn’t press the matter.
“But even so, a maid…”
The Susie in front of me was a maid without a shadow of a doubt, no matter how you looked at her.
The buttons on her chest and the cuffs on her sleeves were all fastened perfectly.
The town we were in was an adventurer’s town, filled with adventurers. Not many wealthy families who could afford housemaids lived here.
That’s precisely why Susie’s impeccable housemaid demeanor seemed so out of place in this town.
Naturally, this also implied that the Salisbury household she served was more than just comfortably wealthy.
In other words, my hunch had been correct: Cordelia was indeed a young lady from a privileged background.
No wonder, despite her young age, she lived in such a nice room, bought top brand products in bulk without any hesitation, and would throw things away if they got even a little dirty.
I shifted my gaze from Susie to Cordelia, who sat beside me.
Even with an unexpected visitor, Cordelia maintained her haughty composure.
She crossed her long, slender legs and glared at the maid before her.
“So, Susie? What brings you here? Let me make one thing clear: I’m not returning to that house.”
Cordelia wrapped her long, lustrous blonde hair, which she had just gotten out of the bath, around her long fingertips.
“But, my lady, I cannot approve of this. For you, of all people, to become an adventurer…”
“So that is your goal after all. I’ll ask anyway, but was that something my father told you to do? Or was it Susie’s decision?”
“…It was my own decision.”
“I figured. Father and Mother had already accepted my decision to leave home and become a top-tier adventurer. I left that house to forge my own future.”
“Indeed, Young Lady. But…”
“What is it?”
“You recently graduated from the Training Academy, didn’t you? I took the liberty of deciding it was time for you to face reality.”
“Reality? What reality?”
“You speak so lightly of becoming an adventurer, but that profession is fraught with danger.”
“I know that. That’s why I went to the Saint Regia Star Training Institute to learn the necessary skills.”
“I understand.”
“And I graduated from the Saint Regia Star Training Institute at the top of my class. So what are you complaining about?”
“With all due respect, Young Lady, that’s merely an evaluation from a training academy.”
“Hah?”
Undeterred by Cordelia’s menacing growl, Susie continued,
“What does it matter if you can regurgitate memorized rules on a paper test or perform elegant dances with blunted weapons? No monster in a dungeon will applaud your grace—they’ll simply bite.”
Susie’s glasses glinted as she added,
“To put it bluntly, I doubt you could hold your own in a real dungeon against actual monsters.”
“What?! You… how dare you speak to me like that! Enough with this insolence!”
Cordelia’s words never reached their conclusion.
I thought a gust of wind had blown through the room.
Her bangs fluttered slightly, and then—
Susie was suddenly right in front of Cordelia.
“…………!”
Cordelia gasped involuntarily, as if she couldn’t even comprehend what had just happened.
Even from my vantage point, it was a movement so swift that I barely managed to follow it.
Just moments before, Susie had been sitting on the sofa. Now, with an almost weightless grace, she placed her foot on the low table. In less than a breath, she took a single step forward and closed the distance to Cordelia.
In Susie’s right hand was a pearl-headed pin.
It seemed she had retrieved it from beneath her loosened long skirt, where it had been concealed in her garter belt.
Susie pressed the small but formidable darning needle, now serving as a deadly weapon, against Cordelia’s pale throat.
Just one more step, and…
The needle could mercilessly slice across Cordelia’s neck, severing a vital bl00d vessel.
“I don’t believe you could truly fight in a real dungeon, Young Lady, when faced with actual monsters,”
Susie repeated, her voice unwavering.
Slowly, she withdrew the needle and slipped it back into the folds of her long skirt.
Cordelia gasped, her throat making a hiccuping sound as if she had been holding her breath.
“You shouldn’t underestimate the reality of a true battlefield. That is all I’m saying.”
Susie watched Cordelia’s reaction with icy detachment, continuing to speak in a monotone.
