I Really Didn't Intend to Pick Up the Black Lotus Omega - Chapter 18
Yu Qing only worked three days this week, and the weekend arrived sooner than she’d expected.
Ever since Jiang Nianyu revealed her cooking skills, she had taken over preparing all three meals for Yu Qing.
So, on this rare weekend, Yu Qing slept soundly and comfortably.
Layer upon layer of fluffy white clouds piled up in the sky, as if the rain that hadn’t finished falling early yesterday morning had been saved for today.
The sun, unusually gentle, cast its warm rays onto Yu Qing’s bed. She stirred slightly, catching the scent of sunlight and the aroma of food, before slowly and naturally waking up.
The sun was high in the sky, and after a dreamless night, she woke up feeling refreshed and clear-headed.
If sleep quality were like opening a blind box, Yu Qing felt like she’d definitely pulled a hidden rare today.
“You’ve already made brunch?”
Yu Qing shuffled down from the second floor in her slippers.
She saw thick-cut sandwiches laid out on the dining table, the crispy bacon wrapped in golden cheese, their savory aroma filling the air.
Yu Qing couldn’t imagine what Jiang Nianyu had done before her memory loss to have such impressive culinary skills.
After all, Jiang Nianyu’s fingers were slender, without calluses or scars, looking like they had never touched anything more strenuous than a piano key.
“I was just about to call you.”
Jiang Nianyu emerged from the kitchen carrying two glasses of juice. The tall, slender glass and the short, stout stemmed glass leaned against each other, creating an oddly pleasing mismatched aesthetic.
The original owner of this body shared a similar aesthetic sense with Yu Qing, never buying things in pairs.
This hadn’t bothered Yu Qing in her original world. She’d always used mismatched cups without it affecting her life, and it even encouraged her to drink more water.
However, this habit led to chaos after Jiang Nianyu moved in, with the two of them constantly mixing up their cups.
Just like now.
The short, stout glass in front of Jiang Nianyu was the one Yu Qing had used for wine the previous night.
“Yours,” Jiang Nianyu said, matter-of-factly assigning the tall, slender glass to Yu Qing.
Yu Qing’s plan to quietly reclaim her cup had failed.
She hesitated, then reasoned that the wine glass would need washing anyway. Jiang Nianyu must have washed it while making the juice… right?
While Yu Qing was still pondering, Jiang Nianyu had already taken a sip from the stout stemmed glass.
The girl’s pale lips gently touched the rim, stained with a faint tint of the light-colored juice.
She had erased all traces of the mark left on the glass, so thoroughly that even its owner couldn’t find it.
This person was always so daringly reckless, yet meticulously cautious, leaving no trace behind.
Yu Qing hadn’t even noticed anything amiss, let alone found any flaws in her act.
Last night, she had celebrated the weekend with a few drinks. Now, her stomach growled, and the sandwich oozing with molten cheese and sizzling bacon beckoned irresistibly. All she wanted was to devour it completely.
“I need to go out later,” Yu Qing said to Jiang Nianyu after finishing one sandwich. “It’s for work. I’ll be back by afternoon.”
Remembering Siqing’s mention of a weekend delivery, she added, “There might be a package arriving. Don’t be scared when they knock. If the box looks dirty, just open it and bring the contents inside.”
Jiang Nianyu ate much slower than Yu Qing, leaving more than half her sandwich untouched.
She calmly chewed on a piece of bacon before giving Yu Qing a docile nod. “Okay.”
The plump stemmed glass, half-filled with fruit juice, emitted a faint, almost imperceptible aroma of alcohol.
Unaware of the ordeal she would soon face, she was currently quite content.
After eating and drinking her fill, Yu Qing changed into sun-protective clothing, slung a Pochacco bag over her shoulder, and headed out.
The company required her to turn left after leaving the building, so Yu Qing turned left.
At the next intersection, she quietly changed direction, secretly hailing a taxi to the hospital.
Many doctors were off-duty on the weekend, and there weren’t many patients seeking consultations.
However, the endocrinology clinic was still packed, with patients lined up outside the examination room.
Yu Qing took a number and found an empty seat to wait patiently.
She couldn’t detect the strange mix of pheromones in the air, only noticing that the air purifiers around her were running at full capacity.
Surrounded by Alphas and Omegas who were either in pain, exhausted, or enduring their discomfort, Yu Qing, as a Beta, felt completely out of place.
After what seemed like an eternity, Yu Qing’s number was finally called.
She immediately stood up and walked into the examination room.
“What’s the matter?” The doctor seemed very busy, not even looking up as she typed rapidly on her keyboard.
“Doctor,” Yu Qing began cautiously, “an Omega recently moved into my house. She keeps getting close to me, even sneaking into my bed at night to hug me while I sleep and… do things.”
“I’m just wondering if she’s dissatisfied with me?”
“Or is it just that Omegas are naturally sensitive and prone to reacting to changes in their environment?”
“Or maybe she hit her head and lost her memory…”
“Neither,” the doctor said, dismissing Yu Qing’s theories without even looking up.
Then, in a calm and matter-of-fact tone, she told Yu Qing, “She’s in heat and seeking your mark.”
“Huh?!”
Yu Qing’s mind went blank, as if struck by lightning.
She never imagined that this term she’d often read in ABO novels would manifest so quickly in her own life, or even—
That it had already been happening, and she hadn’t noticed!
Yu Qing’s exclamation was so loud that the doctor found her reaction a bit dramatic. “Why are you so surprised? It’s perfectly normal for an Omega in heat to crave an Alpha’s—”
The doctor, accustomed to such situations, only glanced up to realize, “Ah, young lady, you’re a Beta.”
“Mm-hmm,” Yu Qing nodded, awkwardly touching her bare neck.
“A Beta and an Omega together… that’s not an easy path,” the doctor sighed. “You can’t smell her pheromones, so you won’t know when she needs you. And she can’t stabilize her Omega factor by absorbing your pheromones. Without relief from her heat, her system could easily become unstable.”
“But isn’t there suppressants to manage the heat cycle?” Yu Qing’s attention was entirely focused on the second half of the doctor’s statement, completely missing the doctor’s misinterpretation of her relationship with Jiang Nianyu.
Hearing Yu Qing’s suggestion, the doctor’s expression immediately turned serious. “Young lady, suppressants only break down and neutralize the excess pheromones produced during an Omega’s heat cycle. But sometimes, what people crave goes beyond just pheromones. You’re an adult; you should know what else they desire.”
“Since you’ve already become this Omega’s partner, how could you even consider suppressing her heat cycle with just suppressants?”
Yu Qing froze, finally realizing the doctor had completely misunderstood her relationship with Jiang Nianyu. “No, it’s not like that at all…”
“You don’t need to explain. I understand,” the doctor said, looking at the beautiful Beta before her with a hint of pity.
“Are you feeling insecure because you’re not an Alpha and can’t relieve her heat cycle discomfort by biting her gland?”
As she spoke, the doctor took Yu Qing’s hand, examined it for a moment, and then smiled encouragingly. “Young lady, there’s no need to feel inferior. Your fingers are slender and well-defined—excellent tools in their own right.”
