Chapter 169: The Magic Tool Shop 

The next morning. Just as I was thinking about sightseeing in the royal capital, a mage came to visit me. 

When I heard what he had to say, I realized he had come as a guide to the magic tool shop in the capital of the Eldrasia Kingdom—something that Frederic, the master of the Magic Tower, had passionately talked about yesterday. 

I had assumed it was just a polite remark. But it seemed he had earnestly kept his promise. 

“Nice to meet you. You must be Vandière, correct? As you may have heard from the Magic Tower Master, I am Karl, a mage assigned to guide you. Please call me Karl. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” 

“I’m Justin de Vandière. Likewise, I look forward to your guidance.” 

We shook hands in greeting. 

As we passed by the servants of the reception hall, I noticed them looking slightly surprised when they saw Karl’s robe. I wondered why. 

Karl then took me into the city in the carriage he had arrived in. 

“This is the largest street in the royal capital. But the magic tool shop is located a little farther from here.” 

“Why is that? If it’s a business that represents the kingdom, I would expect it to be on the main street.” 

“You would think so, right? But the previous master of the Magic Tower had a peculiar philosophy. He wanted magic tools to be used by those who were passionate enough to go out of their way to obtain them. So, he refused to supply his creations to shops on the main street. He was an unusual person, but very kind and well-loved by everyone.” 

Karl smiled wistfully as he spoke. 

It seemed the previous Magic Tower Master had been quite beloved. 

Well, considering he had taken in an unknown child simply because they had talent, he must have been quite the person. 

“I would have loved to meet him. I may not have any talent for making magic tools myself, but I would have liked to ask him many things… It’s unfortunate that he has already passed away.” 

“I’m sure if the previous master were alive, he would have loved to hear about your battle against the Evil God. He might have even come up with new magic tools based on it… The current Magic Tower Master is a calm person. But the previous one was like a child when it came to magic tools—completely obsessed. Ah, we’re here.” 

The building we arrived at was so imposing that I could have mistaken it for a bank. Perhaps for security reasons, despite its large size, the entrance was quite small. 

As I stepped inside after getting off the carriage, I saw rows of familiar magic tools lined up. 

“This floor is for older-model magic tools that even commoners can afford. Most of the magic tools available abroad can be found here. The second floor has slightly newer models. They are usually purchased by wealthy merchants and lower-ranked nobles within the kingdom. But today, we’ll be heading to the third floor. It’s where the latest magic tools are displayed.” 

The shop staff seemed to recognize Karl. Theyrespectfully bowed before allowing us through to the back. 

We climbed the stairs as guided. And when we reached the third floor, I could immediately tell it was worth the visit. 

There were refrigerators of various sizes, some with different numbers of doors. Even the lighting magic tools were the latest models, unlike anything I had seen before. I had to admit—I was excited. 

“Hehe, Lord Vandière, you really do like magic tools, don’t you? Normally, foreign customers aren’t allowed to purchase items from the third floor. But the Magic Tower Master has made a special exception for you. You’re free to buy whatever you like.” 

“That’s much appreciated. Could you explain the differences between these and the items on the first floor?” 

“Of course.” 

From there, Karl’s salesmanship was so skilled that I almost ended up saying I wanted everything. 

However, the latest magic tools came with a hefty price tag. 

It was expensive enough that I did a double-take—just like when I bought pepper for the first time. 

I had saved a significant amount from my salary and various rewards over time. 

But if I spent it all now, I would run out of money and be forced to return to the Kingdom of Rafios. Which would be utterly foolish. 

“After my wedding next month, I plan to travel alone to other countries. I’d love to buy everything I want now. But I think I’ll wait until I return to Rafios. In the meantime, do you have any magic tools that would be useful for camping?” 

“Oh, I have the perfect item for you! This is the latest barrier magic tool! It activates both presence concealment and invisibility. So you won’t need a lookout while camping alone! Even if a group of monsters appears, the defensive barrier will keep them out. They’ll just think they’ve bumped into something and move along, so you can rest easy. Normally, it’s three gold coins. But since you’re introduced by the Magic Tower Master, I can offer it for just two!”

That’s about three million yen dropping to two million… Quite the bargain. The price is still high, but not having to keep watch while camping is incredibly valuable. 

With this magic tool, the chances of my tent getting damaged would also be significantly reduced. 

“Alright, I’ll take it!” 

“Thank you very much. By the way, this one here is also…” 

After that, thanks to Karl’s excellent salesmanship, even more gold coins flew out of my hands. 

But I have no regrets. 

A magic tool that shines as bright as a searchlight!? Of course, I’m buying it!! 

And it even allows me to adjust the range! Since I’ll be traveling through mountains and forests, this will definitely come in handy. 

With both Karl and me in high spirits, we left the shop and got back into the carriage to return to the reception hall. 

On the way, I spotted a familiar-looking, old, worn-out triangular hat. 

It looked like its owner was arguing with a street vendor. 

“Karl, isn’t that person over there from the Magic Tower?” 

I pointed through the window, and Karl immediately instructed the driver to stop the carriage. 

“Stop the carriage! My apologies, but it looks like there’s a problem. I need to check it out.” 

Karl hurriedly got off the carriage, and I followed right after him.
