I Supported My Fiancé for 10 Years After He Said, 'Let's Get Married When I Succeed,' but When He Finally Did, He Dumped Me. By the Way, I'm a Witch and Turning 30 Next Year!! - Episode 33
“How could something like that happen to the Saint!?”
“I don’t know.”
Carbuncle said that by the time it noticed, she was already lifeless on her bed.
There were no external injuries, no signs of poisoning, and no evidence that anyone had approached her.
“The Saint had simply told me to rest as usual before she went to sleep.”
Carbuncle sensed something was wrong at dawn.
Normally, before the morning prayer bells rang, the Saint would wake up early and pray alone in her room. But that day, she didn’t wake up. When Carbuncle found this strange and looked at her sleeping face, it realized she wasn’t breathing.
“However, if the Saint had truly died, I should have noticed the moment it happened.”
As the Saint’s familiar, Carbuncle was connected to her through their contract. Since that connection hadn’t been severed, it realized that her soul had not yet ascended to heaven.
“I panicked and desperately tried to pull her soul back.”
For an entire hour, Carbuncle struggled. Eventually, it managed to capture the Saint’s soul and return it to her body.
“The Saint woke up immediately. But… she was different.”
Apparently, as soon as she opened her eyes, she started saying strange things.
— Huh? Where am I? I was supposed to be in the hospital! Did they move me while I was sleeping!? No way!!
The Saint had always been quiet and reserved.
But when she woke up, she started talking like a machine gun.
— Wow, what a cute bunny plushie! Wait, it moved! And it talked!
As soon as she saw Carbuncle, she mistook it for a stuffed animal. When she realized it was alive and speaking, she was incredibly shocked.
“At first, I thought she had amnesia.”
Since her behavior seemed more childish, Carbuncle wondered if she had lost several years’ worth of memories.
“But it didn’t take long to realize that theory was wrong.”
When she looked into a mirror, the Saint said something unbelievable.
— This is the heroine, Sui, from the otome game Saint Jewel! Did I reincarnate into Sui!?
“Reincarnation?”
“Yes, that’s what the Saint called it.”
Reincarnation, an unfamiliar concept, apparently referred to a dead soul being reborn into a new existence.
“Rather than reincarnation, it sounds more like possession.”
“That makes more sense.”
A completely different personality had taken over the body that had been Saint Sui’s for eighteen years. That wasn’t a rebirth.
“However, in the world the Saint came from, the definitions of reincarnation and possession were unclear.”
“The world she came from? She didn’t come from somewhere in this world?”
“No, that’s what she said when I asked.”
Apparently, the Saint was originally born in a country called “Nihon” in a world called “Chikyuu.”
That world had no magic, but instead, a different kind of civilization had developed.
“There was no magic, but they had an energy source called ‘electricity’ that made doors open automatically, floors move, and machines that sucked up garbage. It sounded like a very convenient world.”
“That’s fascinating.”
“Yes, it was quite interesting to hear about.”
But this wasn’t the time to be marveling at stories from another world.
In that world, there was a form of entertainment called “handheld games.” Within one of those games, there existed a world almost identical to the Holy Kingdom of Heilig, where players could follow a story and romance different characters.
“I can’t wrap my head around this.”
“Neither can I.”
In that game, Saint Sui was the protagonist, and the player could enjoy the journey from romance to marriage with various characters.
“And apparently, the ‘main hero’ of that story was you, Ie.”
“Me?”
“Yes. But the Saint wasn’t interested in you. She liked a ‘mob character’ named Rymer instead. Rymer wasn’t a romanceable character in the game, so she was overjoyed to be able to pursue him in this world.”
As the unbelievable conversation continued, Ie furrowed his brows deeply. I, too, understood less than half of what was being said.
“So, when you tried to pull back the Saint’s soul after she died, you accidentally put a completely different soul into her body?”
“Well… yes!”
That wasn’t something to say proudly. I had no energy left to criticize, and I just slumped down in exhaustion.
“I’ve always thought the Saint seemed like a different person.”
“That’s because she is.”
From what Carbuncle had heard, the soul now inside Saint Sui’s body belonged to a fifteen-year-old girl.
“I knew it! Her behavior seemed too childish. Oh!!”
“What is it?”
“Well, since she and Rymer started living together, I was wondering what happened to her chastity!!”
The thought of a fully grown man laying hands on an immature fifteen-year-old girl made my skin crawl.
“You don’t need to worry about that. Her chastity is intact.”
Apparently, Carbuncle could tell. That was an unsettling connection to have.
However, since the Saint’s purity was highly valued, perhaps Rymer, as a Holy Knight, also understood the importance of that.
