I Supported My Fiancé for 10 Years After He Said, 'Let's Get Married When I Succeed,' but When He Finally Did, He Dumped Me. By the Way, I'm a Witch and Turning 30 Next Year!! - Episode 9
The pharmacy itself is two stories, but it’s not very big.
The basement is used for storage, most of the first floor is the shop space, with the next largest area being the kitchen, followed by the pantry. I kept some of my personal items and food in the pantry.
The second floor is one big room, and the magic books passed down from the previous herbal witch are piled up messily without any organization.
“I need to buy bookshelves, a bed, and then make a bath…”
With a magical bathtub, I don’t need to worry about the plumbing. If I bathe by washing in the tub and refilling it with water, I can place it anywhere.
“Can I install bookshelves here and organize the magic books, then make a bed and a bath?”
“If it’s a hammock, I can make it for you,” Merv Maple said.
“Really?”
“Yes.”
Then, Merv Maple gave me some unexpected information.
“Maybe Dryad can make bookshelves,”
“Can she really do that?”
Melve Maple nodded.
Apparently, about two years ago, Dryad sneezed and caused the pharmacy’s shelf to break.
At that time, Dryad used tree magic to make a new shelf.
Dryad was afraid I’d be angry, so she had asked Merv Maple to keep it a secret until now.
“Is that so? In that case, I’ll go ask her.”
“Merv Maple, I’m going to organize the books.”
“Thank you!”
Merv Maple stretched out her hands like tentacles and quickly started picking up and organizing the books. It seems I can leave this to her.
I went downstairs and called out to the still-sleeping Dryad.
“Hey, Dryad, I heard you can make bookshelves.”
“Wh-where did you hear that!?”
“Who knows? Maybe from the wind?”
“Yikes, that’s a terrifying wind!”
Putting aside the jokes, when I asked if she could do it, Dryad started saying something ridiculous.
“I could do it, but before that, I’d like a beautiful lady to water me!”
“Is that all it takes?”
I went to the kitchen and brought some water to pour on Dryad’s pot.
But then, Dryad cried out while tears streamed down.
“I don’t want an older lady watering me!”
“What!?”
“I want a younger, more lively lady!”
When she said “lively,” I had to admit I didn’t have that quality.
But I didn’t know any lively ladies.
“Well, I guess I have no choice…”
Seeing me give up, Dryad happily exclaimed, “Yippee!”
“If that’s how it is, I guess I’ll have to threaten you!”
I conjured a huge fireball and told her to make the shelf.
Dryad nodded tearfully, agreeing.
Carrying Dryad, I went upstairs where Merv Maple had finished organizing the books and cleaning the floor.
“Merv Maple, thank you! This is amazing in such a short time!”
“Anything for you.”
After organizing the books, I could see that the room was fairly spacious.
“Dryad, can you make a big bookshelf along the wall that reaches the ceiling?”
“I understand.”
Dryad muttered a spell and cast the magic.
“—Activate, Tree Magic: Arblure Magia!”
A magic circle appeared on the wall, and boards began sprouting from it.
In no time, the shelf was completed.
“Dryad, amazing!”
“That’s nothing!”
As a reward, I gave Merv Maple and Dryad honey water.
Merv Maple drank it happily, but Dryad was still mumbling about wanting a younger lady.
We continued to arrange the books on the shelf while keeping an eye on Merv Maple making the hammock.
I had already installed waterproof curtains in the bath area. It was for me to use alone, but I felt uneasy about bathing in a large room.
“Next, I need a bathtub. But first, I want to tile the floor.”
If the water overflows, it’ll be easier to clean up if the floor is tiled. The mortar for attachment can be made with materials I already have, so I just need to buy the tiles and the bathtub.
Merv Maple agreed to come with me for shopping. She’s strong, so she’ll help carry the bathtub.
I put on my witch robe and also dressed Merv Maple in a cape. When she put on the hood, she looked just like a little girl.
Holding hands with Merv Maple, and wearing our hoods, we set off.
Walking through the town in the daytime felt strange. Usually, I’m either tending the shop or cleaning the store at this time.
The evenings, when I usually go out, are busy with people coming and going, but now it’s relatively calm.
Being free like this made me think about how I had been rushing through the past ten years, engaged to Rymer. I hadn’t had time to relax.
From now on, I want to work hard but also make time for peaceful moments.
Not only for me, but I also want to provide some comfort to the regulars who visit the pharmacy.
I ended up at the general store, “Junk Shop,” where I sometimes deliver herbal soaps.
When I opened the door, a rooster crowed loudly, announcing a customer’s arrival.
Inside, there were all kinds of magical tools, used wands and swords, old maps, and magic books—basically anything related to magic was scattered around.
The rooster kept calling out impatiently.
“That crowing doesn’t sound like it’s for a customer.”
From the back of the shop, an elderly man around his sixties appeared.
He was the owner of the Junk Shop, Mr. Gata.
“Ah, it’s the herbal witch. I thought the magic medicine delivery was still a little while away.”
“I’m here as a customer today.”
“What’s going on?”
Since this was the first time I had come as a customer, he looked at me suspiciously.
“I want to buy a magical bathtub.”
“Did your old one break?”
“No, I’ve started living at the pharmacy.”
“Did you fight with Rymer? Don’t bother, that’s expensive. It’s cheaper to make up.”
“It’s not a fight. Rymer broke off our engagement.”
“What!?!”
I hadn’t planned on telling Gata, but when I sensed he might not sell it to me otherwise, I opened up.
“What… Rymer, why would he do something so foolish? Ah, if you don’t want to talk about it, you don’t have to, but…”
He agreed to sell me the bathtub, but after saying all this, I couldn’t just buy it and leave.
“He apparently has someone else now.”
“Who?”
“Saint Sui.”
“A Saint!? He’s going to marry someone like her over you!!”
Gata cursed Rymer, calling him no better than a dog. I found myself wishing he would say even more.
“That’s just unbelievable! To leave someone like you and run after a young girl! When I see him next, I’ll give him a piece of my mind!”
Gata’s angry outburst made me feel better, as if some weight had been lifted.
“In that case, the magical bathtub is half-price! No, I’ll give it to you for 90% off!”
“That’s too much, I’ll buy it at full price.”
“Are you trying to make me say ‘take it, you thief’?”
“Well then, half-price, please.”
“Are you sure?”
“I should be the one saying that.”
Gata smiled warmly and said, “As always!”
“Is it really okay?”
“Of course. This bathtub has been sitting here for years without selling. It’ll be good for the shop to get some space.”
The magical bathtub, usually priced at six gold coins, was mine for half-price thanks to Rymer’s misfortune.
