- Chapter 12 - The Jealous King
In an instant, Su Cheng broke out in a cold sweat. An unfamiliar panic surged through her—so sudden that she didn’t even realize it herself.
When did those two disappear?
Even though they had put herbal patches on their necks to mask their scent, they were still Omegas. If the people of Longyu discovered them, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Damn it. Why did she act on impulse and bring them here?!
No longer caring about the city guards, she turned around and hurried back along the path they’d come from. Her mind had already started racing: If Ling Yuexi gets caught, should I reveal my identity? Or sneak in, rescue her, and make a run for it?
She stumbled as she walked. Her eyes darting around without blinking, scanning every shadow and corner.
But it felt like there was a gaping hole in her chest, growing bigger with each passing second. Her mind went blank. She didn’t want to think about what that meant—didn’t dare to.
As Su Cheng wandered in a daze along the small paths of Longyu, a slender, cool hand suddenly covered her mouth from behind. Before she could make a sound, another arm wrapped around her waist and pulled her into a tight embrace.
A faint herbal scent drifted into her nose. Su Cheng’s back was pressed against a soft, cool body. When she turned her head slightly, her cheek brushed against a cold mask.
“Don’t move. It’s me.”
The red lips parted slightly, and a low, misty voice brushed against Su Cheng’s ear. It was like a lover’s seductive whisper—every syllable laced with charm, enough to steal one’s soul. Just those four words made her body tremble, tingling all over as if electricity had surged through her.
This damn woman, Su Cheng cursed in her heart. Did she really have to turn the mask aside just to whisper? She almost bit my ear! She’s doing this on purpose!
She obediently stayed still, but her heart was pounding. Their posture was too intimate—and worse, she could clearly feel those two soft… “rabbits” pressing into her back.
So… so well-endowed…
She felt like a startled kitten, too nervous to move. Her ears, as if alive, flushed a bright red that could be seen even in the dark.
Ling the Demon Queen, wicked as ever, breathed out a soft puff of air on Su Cheng’s ear. Watching the little kitten’s ear twitch slightly, she finally released her with satisfaction.
Realizing she’d just been teased, Su Cheng spun around angrily, but before she could say a word, she got a flick to the forehead.
“You limping fool, what were you running for? You vanished in a blink,” Hu Ziyuan scolded in a low but fierce voice.
Seriously, this woman was unbelievable—picking the narrowest alleys to walk through. The moment she stepped into Longyu, it was like a mudfish slipping into water—slippery and impossible to follow.
Su Cheng rubbed her forehead and muttered, “I was just in a hurry…” She’d been too focused on avoiding the passing soldiers and hadn’t realized the other two had gotten so far ahead.
Just as the two were about to start bickering again, Ling Yuexi cut in, “Someone’s coming.”
Su Cheng instantly shut up and ducked into hiding.
Who the hell is out wandering at this time of night? Don’t they sleep?
She cursed silently as she peeked out to see who it was.
At the intersection ahead, a figure stood under the dim light.
It was too dark, and the person was too far away to see clearly, but the slim figure suggested it was a woman.
That person turned and began walking toward them at a slow but steady pace. Thud, thud, thud—each step echoed with calm confidence. Just the sound alone told Su Cheng this was no ordinary person.
The three of them stayed still, holding their breath in the shadows. Su Cheng gripped her cane tightly. Her nerves were taut. If the woman got too close, she’d have no choice but to strike first and knock her out.
The footsteps drew nearer. Su Cheng could hear the distinct sound of soles pressing against stone.
That kind of weight… those weren’t ordinary shoes.
She closed her eyes, brain working fast. That heavy step—boots like that weren’t common in Longyu. Soldiers wore lighter shoes. These sounded different, more familiar somehow…
Her eyes dropped to her own feet.
Wait a second.
Those are Dawn’s combat boots!
Su Cheng’s head slowly peeked out from the shadows, eyes locked on the approaching figure.
The woman, dressed in white, was less than ten meters away now. Under the dim streetlights, her short blue hair glimmered faintly.
The light cast a gentle glow over her, almost like a divine halo. With her calm expression and otherworldly aura, she looked like a sacred monk walking straight out of an ancient mural—untouched by the dust of the mortal world.
Su Cheng’s face twisted into a grimace.
Why is it her…?
Noticing the change in her expression, Ling Yuexi asked quietly, “You know her?”
Su Cheng nodded bitterly. Know her? We’re very well acquainted…
“Tang Jin. One of Dawn’s members. An A-class Alpha.” If she spotted them, they’d be in deep trouble.
There was no way she wouldn’t recognize them! How the hell were they going to explain this?!
Hu Ziyuan grinned and whispered, “Leave it to me~”
Leave your ass!
Su Cheng wailed silently, praying for a miracle—maybe Tang Jin would suddenly change her mind and walk away?
But of course, the woman headed straight toward their hiding spot.
She was just a few meters away now. Su Cheng’s heart was about to leap out of her throat. None of them were easy to deal with. If a fight broke out, who knew what would happen? Even though Ling Yuexi and Hu Ziyuan had the advantage of surprise—and guns—Tang Jin was one of Longyu’s top Alphas. Two Omegas wouldn’t take her down easily.
Besides, she didn’t want any of them to get hurt.
As Tang Jin approached, Su Cheng took a deep breath—then suddenly burst out laughing.
“AHAHAHAHA!”
Startled, Hu Ziyuan nearly dropped the tranquilizer in her hand. She stared at Su Cheng in shock. If she weren’t wearing a mask, her face would’ve clearly read: Are you crazy?
“General Suanni, out so late—can’t sleep?” Su Cheng laughed as she stepped out of the shadows, arms wide as if greeting an old friend, and threw herself at Tang Jin.
“……”
Tang Jin frowned. She’d been startled by the sudden laugh too. If she hadn’t recognized the voice as someone familiar, she might’ve already struck out.
Lunatic.
She was just about to question where this person had been all this time, but Su Cheng wrapped her in a hug and slapped her back hard, whispering quickly in her ear:
“Sorry.”
Sorry for what…?
THUD! Everything went black.
“I’m so sorry…” Su Cheng apologized silently, catching Tang Jin’s unconscious body and shaking out her sore hand. She had hit her really hard…
Please, heaven, let her wake up with no memory of this…
“Hey hey hey, be gentle! Don’t break her!” Hu Ziyuan rushed over and brushed Su Cheng aside, taking Tang Jin from her arms.
Su Cheng: ???
Why do I suddenly feel like I’m in the way?
Hu Ziyuan gently moved Tang Jin’s hair aside and softly touched the gland at the back of her neck, scolding, “An Alpha’s neck is sensitive. You could damage her gland like this. Next time just use the tranquilizer.”
Su Cheng nodded quickly. She didn’t want Tang Jin to become a crippled A—she’d only acted after confirming the perfect timing.
But…
“You’re this gentle with an enemy?” she frowned, then looked to Ling Yuexi for backup. “We’re on the same team, right?”
This woman had just smacked her on the head, and now she was holding Tang Jin like a delicate treasure?
Talk about double standards!
Ling Yuexi didn’t answer. She just stared at Su Cheng in silence. After a long pause, she finally asked, “You’re close with her?”
Then, slowly, she started walking toward Tang Jin with narrowed eyes.
Gunfire would attract too much attention—so she had drawn a knife.
Seeing the woman approach, Su Cheng felt a chill. For some reason, she sensed a sharp, killing intent.
Had Ling Yuexi discovered something? Was she starting to suspect her again?
But she didn’t understand what had exposed her. They were so close just a moment ago, and now…
Was she really going to kill her?
A wave of disappointment surged through her, along with other emotions she couldn’t even name. Facing that unreadable mask, Su Cheng whispered in frustration:
“Why don’t you trust me…?”
She truly hadn’t meant any harm by bringing them into Longyu this time.
Ling Yuexi paused. Hearing the sadness in her voice, she stopped and said softly, “Who told you to hug her…”
Hug???
Who did I hug???
Su Cheng stared at her in confusion. Then she remembered the sneak attack on Tang Jin, and a lightning bolt of realization struck her brain.
Wait a minute… Was this woman… jealous?!
“You were going to kill Tang Jin?”
Ling Yuexi frowned. “Of course. Who else would we kill?”
Su Cheng let out a long breath. Good. As long as it wasn’t her she wanted to kill.
Wait—hold up!
“No!”
“No!”
They spoke in unison and then looked at each other suspiciously.
Hu Ziyuan: “She’s one of Dawn. If she dies here, Longyu will investigate. We’re not strong enough to clean up that mess.”
Su Cheng: “Exactly! We’re just here for the medicine. No need to create extra trouble! It might even get my gatekeeping buddy involved!”
Hu Ziyuan: “Right? That guy’s great. We’ll need him next time too!”
Su Cheng: “You’re so right! Next time we’ll still need—”
Wait, what?! Next time?!
No way in hell!
Ling Yuexi watched the two of them chattering away, back and forth, and finally let out a sigh. She put the knife away with a weary expression.
After hiding Tang Jin in a safe spot, the three of them continued on their way.
This time, nothing else went wrong. They evaded a few patrols and soon reached the medical facility.
Hu Ziyuan stayed outside to keep watch while the other two slipped inside to steal the medicine.
Su Cheng, with her bad leg, awkwardly climbed over the wall. She turned and saw Ling Yuexi press her hands down, leap gracefully over the top, and land silently like a cat—fluid, light, and deadly.
She was more skilled than most Alphas.
Su Cheng thought of that moment when Ling had shot from a motorcycle mid-air and felt that if she ever joined Longyu, she’d be promoted straight into Dawn—Omega or not.
There were guards on duty even at night, but they were all Betas—not worth worrying about. Ling Yuexi raised her knife, ready to strike, but Su Cheng quickly stopped her.
“Don’t kill anyone.”
Ling Yuexi was about to say, “they’re not with Dawn, so what if I kill them”? But when she saw the seriousness in Su Cheng’s eyes, the words stuck in her throat.
Only after she gave a small nod did Su Cheng let go.
The woman moved like a trained operative—stalking, sneaking, attacking—every motion smooth and flawless.
She silently took down a few people and hid them. Soon, the two of them slipped into the pharmacy.
Seeing shelves packed with medicine, Su Cheng’s eyes lit up like a pirate discovering treasure.
Hell yeah. Grab what we can and get the hell out!
In the pitch dark, she rubbed her hands together, ready to turn on her flashlight to search—when suddenly, a voice came from the doorway.
“Huh? Why is this door open?”
That voice… sounded way too familiar.
