- Chapter 13 - “Is It Fun?”
Su Cheng almost cursed out loud when she heard the voice.
Seriously, how unlucky could she be as the main character? She just came in to steal something—why did she have to run into someone she knew? Don’t these people ever sleep?
A clear, spirited voice rang out from outside. It was Yu Fei. “You guys don’t even lock your pharmacy door. That’s way too careless.”
The director of the clinic was a short, chubby middle-aged man. He scratched the few strands of hair left on his head, looking puzzled. “I swear I locked it earlier… Must’ve been some careless Beta who forgot. I’ll have them take night shifts from now on. Who knows where that guy has snuck off to. General Bi’an, please wait here a moment while I go in and check.”
Su Cheng’s heart tightened. Where could she hide?
The pharmacy wasn’t exactly small, and there were quite a few shelves, but if the man checked row by row, it wouldn’t take much to find two people hiding inside.
She quickly looked around, searching for a place to hide—but the original owner of this body had never been here before. She had no idea how the place was laid out.
She was doomed. Two people showed up, and she just had to run into Yu Fei of all people.
That girl had quick reflexes. Even if Su Cheng’s strength had returned to S-rank, she still might not be able to outrun her.
This wasn’t going to be as easy as dealing with Tang Jin.
Su Cheng frowned deeply, unsure what to do—when suddenly, Ling Yuexi gently patted her shoulder and motioned for her to follow.
Outside, Yu Fei waved a hand lazily. “Alright, just hurry up and bring me a few inhibitors when you’re done. The best ones you’ve got.”
Then the girl leaned casually against the wall, humming a tune with a lively spirit. Clearly, she wasn’t the least bit sleepy.
Just as the director stepped in, Su Cheng and Ling Yuexi had reached the seventh row of shelves. At the far end stood a tall cabinet, just over a person’s height. The two of them immediately slipped inside.
The very next second, the lights of the pharmacy flicked on all at once, illuminating the entire room.
The director entered, glancing first at the windows. Seeing they were all shut, he began inspecting the shelves one row at a time.
At this moment, Su Cheng was genuinely relieved she hadn’t had the chance to steal anything yet. If that damn director noticed something missing, she’d be in real trouble.
She was just about to let out a sigh of relief—but when she realized their current position, she didn’t even dare to breathe.
How the hell did two people even manage to squeeze into such a narrow cabinet?
She’d been panicking at the time—someone was about to come in, and in a flash of desperation, she’d followed Ling Yuexi in. And now? The two of them were pressed tightly together, face to face.
Su Cheng had apparently grown a bit taller recently, now slightly taller than the other girl. Though, she wasn’t sure if it was from all the jumping…
Ling Yuexi’s hands rested on her shoulders, while Su Cheng’s hands, from the moment she squeezed in, had instinctively ended up around the other girl’s slender waist.
In such a cramped space, even the air felt thin.
She snuck a glance at the mask so close to her face and wondered if the other girl could even breathe properly in that thing.
Just then, Ling Yuexi reached up, twisted her mask to the side, and finally revealed a delicate face as she quietly took in a few deep breaths.
The warm breath spilled across Su Cheng’s skin. Their noses brushed against each other’s cheeks.
Ling Yuexi turned her head, and her lips grazed Su Cheng’s ear. At such close range, Su Cheng caught a whiff of something—hidden beneath the scent of medicine was a faint lime-and-mint aroma. Like walking into a lush green forest. Refreshing. Natural. Comforting.
Even with her glands sealed, Su Cheng could still feel how enticing this Omega was.
Honestly, even without information pheromones involved, just by looks alone—this kind of beauty? Who could say no?
Ling Yuexi’s body was always strangely cool, yet somehow soft and fragrant in her arms—like she was both seductive and untouchable. In contrast, Su Cheng’s palms felt almost too warm. After a moment, sweat had already beaded along her hand resting on that narrow waist.
Even if she were hugging a block of ice right now, she could probably melt it in minutes.
The two of them held that position in awkward silence, neither daring to speak.
Outside the cabinet, the director was checking each row. He was getting close—soon it would be their row.
Inside, the pair clung to each other, the atmosphere thick with tension. In such a tight, enclosed space, every tiny movement felt magnified a hundred times over.
Su Cheng felt her heartbeat thundering in her ears, loud and rapid. Thump, thump. Like a war drum. She couldn’t even tell if it was the fear of being discovered… or something else entirely.
The director’s footsteps grew louder, turning into the seventh row and steadily approaching the cabinet.
At that moment, for reasons unknown, Su Cheng suddenly remembered how Ling Yuexi had teased her before. Her brain short-circuited. In a flash of wicked revenge, she leaned in close and gently exhaled near the other girl’s ear. Her voice was low and teasing:
“Happy now?”
Wasn’t she the one who had a problem with her getting close to Tang Jin? Well now they were practically glued together—satisfied?
Ling Yuexi’s body jolted. She turned her head sharply and shot a furious glare at the girl in front of her.
Seriously? Now? You still have the nerve to act like this?!
Su Cheng lowered her head, touching foreheads and noses, a smirk tugging at her lips. Her eyebrows lifted in a mischievous, taunting arc: What can you do about it? This is open retaliation—deal with it.
Ling Yuexi didn’t dare move. She couldn’t speak either. The director was already right outside—just one cabinet door separated them.
Su Cheng could hardly hold in her laughter at that pitiful expression. She wanted to slap her thigh with joy!
Ling Yuexi, of all people! The villainess of the apocalypse! A ruthless queen who struck fear into everyone’s heart! The one who’d shoot someone in the face if they looked at her wrongly!
Now she was just… glaring. Powerless.
Her skin was so pale that even a little emotion brought a flush to her eyes. She looked like a little rabbit with reddened eyes—fierce and deadly, but still naturally seductive.
Too bad she couldn’t move. And there was nothing she could do about being teased like this.
Su Cheng was close to bursting. She bit her lip, shoved her face into Ling Yuexi’s shoulder, laughing so hard she started to tear up. Every breath was a struggle.
Ling Yuexi got even more annoyed at her antics. Her chest rose and fell with her breathing, and the hands on Su Cheng’s shoulders gripped her clothes tightly. She tilted her head back, closing her eyes, trying desperately to calm herself.
The director lingered around the cabinet for a moment, then muttered, “Huh? Whose cane is this?”
!!!
It was like someone had whacked Su Cheng in the head with a stick.
Her laughter stopped dead, her mouth still frozen in a smile.
Oh crap…
When she rushed in earlier, she’d ditched her cane and hopped right into the cabinet.
She’d left such a huge piece of evidence behind!
Her scalp prickled with cold. She lifted her head stiffly—only to meet a pair of sparkling aquamarine eyes watching her like she was in the middle of a soap opera.
Ling Yuexi was smirking. Maybe she’d been trying to hold in her own laughter earlier, but now her face was flushed pink, like a baby’s skin. She couldn’t resist raising a hand to pinch Su Cheng’s cheek, savoring the soft, delicate feel under her fingertips. Her mood instantly brightened.
A perfect, wicked smile curled on her lips. Her whole expression lit up with playfulness, eyes shimmering like jade as she tugged lightly at Su Cheng’s mouth: You were laughing, weren’t you? Go on. Keep laughing.
Su Cheng looked like she was about to cry.
Help…
She never expected karma to come back this fast. Now, all she could hope was that the director would move along and stop investigating.
“Hurry up, will you?” Yu Fei’s voice came from outside, growing impatient. “What’s so strange about a cane? Probably one of your people being lazy and leaving it there.”
“You’re right,” the director agreed. “I’ve told them so many times not to leave stuff lying around. Next meeting, I’m going to make this a point.”
He grumbled a bit more, then picked up the cane and walked toward the back rows.
Su Cheng finally let out a breath she’d been holding—comrade Yu Fei really was a little angel sent from heaven!
However, although someone’s ears were tuned to the sounds outside, their hands certainly weren’t idle.
From gentle tugging to full-on kneading, the smooth and delicate skin under her fingers felt like jelly, constantly shifting under her devilish grasp.
This texture—far better than handling a gun.
The cool touch on her face brought Su Cheng back to her senses. She looked down to find the woman in front of her completely engrossed in her fun, even the corners of her mouth slightly lifted.
That smile, unlike her usual cold and distant demeanor, was like a shimmering spring pool—bright, clear, and full of light, reaching all the way to her eyes.
Su Cheng couldn’t help but be amazed. When her lips were puckered into a pout from the pinching, she leaned in and kissed her.
Her mind went blank. It was a soft kiss, like a dragonfly skimming the water, landing on her brow. Amid the fleeting clarity, she heard her own voice, filled with an unfamiliar tenderness: “Having fun?”
The woman, previously lost in play, was momentarily stunned. After a pause, she lifted her head slightly—only to have her lips meet the other’s once more…
“General Bi’an, your energy really is something. Still up this late? Planning to pull another all-nighter?” the director said as he stood the cane aside, picking up a couple of inhibitor boxes from the shelf for comparison.
The two inside the cabinet were jolted back to reality by the sudden voice. Like waking from a dream, they each turned their heads in opposite directions, breaking the accidental brush of lips.
Su Cheng’s heart was still pounding. She was stunned to realize how impulsive she had just been. Why did I just kiss the villain?!
“Just bored,” Yu Fei said, brushing some dust off his shoulders while pacing outside. “It’s just me and Suanni with no missions lately. Everyone else is so busy I haven’t seen them in days. The whole Dawn building’s practically deserted—it’s tragic. I haven’t even caught a glimpse of Chaofeng.”
“General Chaofeng is always busy. Probably off on another mission,” the director finally picked out a suitable inhibitor, packed a few boxes into a paper bag, then grabbed the cane and started walking out.
Yu Fei: “What kind of mission is so secretive? I didn’t see her take any of the Vanguard team with her.”
Hearing the topic shift to herself, Su Cheng frowned slightly. Oh for heaven’s sake—can he just shut up already?
The director came out, handed the items to Yu Fei, then closed the door behind him, joking as he did: “Who knows—maybe it’s an undercover mission!”
“Huh?” Yu Fei immediately pictured her cold, arrogant face and burst into laughter. “Don’t make me laugh. If she’s an undercover agent, the only ones she’s fooling are idiots.”
“… …”
Su Cheng exhaled hard through her nose, her eyes narrowing.
The voices outside gradually faded. After waiting a bit longer, the two finally stepped out from the cabinet.
Neither mentioned the little moment that had just happened. They both pretended like nothing occurred and began rummaging through the shelves for medicine. Before long, their backpacks were full.
The cane had been taken by the director, so now Su Cheng really could only hop along. As they left, Ling Yuexi led the way while she followed behind with a limp and a hop—truly an odd and comical sight.
After exiting the clinic, Hu Ziyuan peeked out cautiously. “Someone from Dawn came by just now. I was afraid of alerting her, so I didn’t warn you. Good thing you didn’t get discovered.”
Su Cheng wiped the sweat from her brow and said, “No worries. We’ve got the meds.” So let’s just get out of here! Let this absurd night end already! She really didn’t want to run into anyone else.
They originally planned to head back the same way, but Ling Yuexi led them down a different path.
After weaving through several routes, the three of them arrived at Dawn’s residence.
Su Cheng: ??
Why did she suddenly get a bad feeling about this?
The whole building was pitch black, like a deserted shell, eerily quiet.
Ling Yuexi raised an eyebrow at Hu Ziyuan. “Didn’t that guy say all the Dawn members were out?”
Hu Ziyuan’s eyes lit up. She checked the time and said, “Twenty minutes left!”
“…So?” Su Cheng looked at Ling Yuexi in confusion, only to see the woman’s wildly charming smile under the moonlight. Her red lips were like fire, dazzling Su Cheng’s eyes.
“When the wild goose passes, you pluck a feather. When the beast dies, you take its skin.”
