- Chapter 2 - Red Sleeve Order (Hong Xiu Zhao)
The former commander of the Vanguard Army, Qiu Niu, had already died in battle many years ago. At that time, Su Cheng had just gone through her differentiation and hadn’t joined Dawn yet, so she never met that legendary figure.
The woman known by the codename “Qiu Niu” wasn’t great at one-on-one combat, but she was a tech genius.
Dragon Domain’s current network system and several of its most well-designed special weapons were all created by her.
Su Cheng was certain—if Qiu Niu were still alive, Dragon Domain’s weapons wouldn’t have fallen so far behind Red Sleeve Order.
And now, just how big was the gap between them and the enemy?
Most of Dragon Domain’s soldiers still used cold weapons. Only a few commanding officers had guns, and even those were scavenged from the Infected Zones. Once the bullets ran out, the guns became nothing more than decorations.
But Red Sleeve Order didn’t just improve firearms—they even developed mechas later on.
And then there was the leader of the enemy—Ling Yuexi. A woman who specialized in guns, with terrifying marksmanship like she was cheating. In the later part of the story, she could take a sniper rifle and blow someone’s head off from a kilometer away. Almost all the core members of the Dawn, including the protagonist, died in her hand.
If you showed up in her scope, you were already dead.
How could anyone possibly fight back against such overwhelming odds? The villains were ridiculously powerful!
Su Cheng kept a calm face, but her heart was in turmoil. With a heavy mood, she pulled out her chair and sat down. The moment she did, a mocking laugh came from across the table.
Hmm?
She looked up. The voice had come from a bald man with a long scar on his face. His nose was swollen, and he was covered in bandages like he’d just been beaten up.
What’s his problem? Did he have a grudge against the original Su Cheng?
Ignoring his provocation, Su Cheng quietly looked around the room while going through the information in her memory. One by one, she matched the people present with the characters from the original story.
Before long, the large screen on the wall suddenly lit up.
A man in his fifties appeared on the screen. His features were proper enough, but Su Cheng instinctively disliked him.
This man was the leader of Dragon Domain—Qing Cang.
Following the memories in her head, she stood up with the others. Seven members of Dawn, all in white uniforms, moved in perfect sync as they saluted. It was a neat and impressive sight.
Qing Cang’s sharp eyes swept over everyone before he spoke with a serious tone, “I’m sure you’ve all heard about it. There’s a rising new force—Red Sleeve Order.”
“Bi An, tell everyone the intel we’ve gathered.”
“Yes, godfather,” replied a young woman with short golden hair. Her voice was clear and lively, full of energy.
Su Cheng looked at her. The girl, codename Bi An, was actually named Yu Fei. She was only nineteen and looked like a college student, but she was already an A-rank Alpha warrior. She was incredibly fast, almost as fast as the original Su Cheng, and often handled intelligence missions.
Yu Fei spoke confidently, “Red Sleeve Order—unknown personnel, unknown base location. Over the past three months, they’ve robbed our exploration teams twice. All known members are women. They move unpredictably and are extremely strong.”
Su Cheng raised an eyebrow.
Now she understood. The villains had just made their debut in the story. At this point, Red Sleeve Order wasn’t at full strength yet.
Yu Fei continued, “This time, the team led by Ya Zhi suffered heavy losses. Except for him, the entire vanguard was wiped out. All our supplies were stolen… uh, except for a single box of toilet paper.”
The Alpha warriors in the room suddenly looked a little awkward.
Wiped out? That bald guy had it even worse than her, and he still had the nerve to act smug?
He was the only one who made it back—probably ran away from the fight, didn’t he?
The bald man’s face turned red and then purple. Embarrassed and angry, he slammed the table hard. “I was caught off guard this time! Next time I see them, none of them will walk away alive!”
Cough.
Yu Fei gave him a look full of disdain and went on, “What’s important is that Red Sleeve has a very dangerous long-range sniper. Her marksmanship is terrifying. If we can’t neutralize her, we will lose this battle.”
“We estimate that their members are at least B-rank or higher.”
Qing Cang nodded in approval. “Good analysis.” His expression turned sharp. “After two failed missions and stolen supplies, we can’t afford another failure.”
“A few nobodies daring to touch Dragon Domain’s goods? They’re overestimating themselves.”
“District 13 used to be the base of Unit 418. There should still be ammo and firearms stored in the warehouse. We must not let those fall into enemy hands. If Red Sleeve dares to come again, we’ll use this chance to wipe them out completely.”
His voice echoed through the meeting room, full of unquestionable authority.
Su Cheng frowned in secret. According to the original story, this was when the old Su Cheng stepped up and volunteered to take on this mission. She wanted to redeem herself and crush the enemy.
But instead, she got beaten badly by Red Sleeve, and she lost one of her arms in that battle, becoming a one-armed warrior from then on.
Damn. That’s just brutal.
Su Cheng tightly wrapped her arms around herself and sat motionless in her chair. Whoever wanted the mission could take it—it just wasn’t going to be her!
Red Sleeve wasn’t just about one scary sniper. They had three bandit leaders, and none of them were pushovers!
Qing Cang stared at the Dawn team, silently deciding who to assign.
Even though Su Cheng tried her best to lower her presence, she could still feel his gaze moving around… and landing on her.
Crap…
Before Qing Cang could speak, Su Cheng slapped a hand on the table, stood up, and quickly said, “Godfather, I believe Red Sleeve Order isn’t simple. We should send someone who’s more cautious and detail-oriented.”
Then, she calmly looked across the table—at a pretty woman with short blue hair sitting diagonally from her.
“Sorry, sweetie, but I’m picking you!”
That woman was codenamed Suanní, real name Tang Jin. She had mastered a form of energy cultivation that made her nearly invulnerable to blades and bullets. She was the strongest in defense among all the members of Dawn—and the only one in the early part of the novel who could take a hit from Ling Yuexi’s sniper rifle without any help.
Tang Jin was a little surprised. She hadn’t expected the usually arrogant Chaofeng to act like this… humble.
Qing Cang paused and thought for a moment. He seemed to agree.
Su Cheng sat down, her face blank but her heart bubbling with joy.
Nice! She was so clever—she managed to dodge a disaster!
After a long silence, Qing Cang’s deep voice echoed through the room like a judge passing sentence. “Then we’ll send two more. Suanní, Bi An, go with Chaofeng.”
What!?
…
In the blink of an eye, several days passed. The mission day had finally come. Su Cheng and the other two Dawn members were fully geared up and ready to go.
All three of them put on their signature silver masks. Legend had it that Chaofeng was born of dragon and phoenix bl00d, so her mask had a phoenix carved into it.
These masks were made from a special metal and had a unique design. When not in use, they could shrink down to the size of a thumb. The original host had always worn hers like a pendant around her neck. The shape resembled a small, winged charm—elegant and delicate.
When needed, the pendant could scan its wearer’s face and automatically expand into a mask. It was a thin, perfectly fitting layer. All Dawn members wore theirs during missions.
This time, the three-person squad had to lead a vanguard troop into the infected zone to retrieve supplies. If they happened to run into Red Sleeve Enchantress, Su Cheng (as Chaofeng) would take them head-on, Tang Jin would defend, and Yu Fei (Bi An) would quickly flank around to take out the sniper.
Thanks to the original host’s strong body, Su Cheng could slash through zombies like she was slicing fruit.
But even then, the disgusting sight still made her stomach turn. When she walked out of Zone 13, her white undershirt was soaked in sweat.
Sigh… Other people who transmigrated became princesses or consorts. And her? What terrible karma was this…
…
The team’s route passed through a narrow canyon.
Su Cheng, exhausted after mentally complaining the whole way, leaned back and was just about to nap when a loud explosion suddenly echoed from both ends of the canyon.
The blast shook the mountain. Rocks tumbled down, blocking the path ahead and behind. The convoy was trapped and had to stop.
The loud boom made Su Cheng jolt in her seat. Her eyelids twitched violently.
Damn! How could she forget—zombies weren’t the real threat! It was the Red Sleeve Invitation that was the real pain!
Sure enough, thick smoke began to rise around the convoy. Everyone was wearing masks, which could filter out toxic gas, but the smoke still made it hard to see.
Su Cheng wanted to curse.
Seriously?! Don’t bandits usually take a break after a big heist? Didn’t they already steal a mountain of supplies from Ya Zhi last time?
Yu Fei quickly leapt out the car window and headed for the highest vantage point.
Su Cheng and Tang Jin had just stepped out when a massive robot—about three meters tall—suddenly burst out of the smoke.
What the hell is this thing? It looks like Megatron!
Tang Jin’s calm voice came from behind, “Chaofeng. Go.”
Why the hell don’t YOU go?!
Su Cheng’s soul screamed. In the original story, it just briefly mentioned that the third leader of Red Sleeve was a genius girl who used her homemade machines to rob people.
But—hello?! This thing?! You’re calling this a “machine”? That’s not even close!
Without a second thought, Su Cheng turned and ran.
Are you kidding me?! This thing was on a completely different level from zombies!
But as if it had a grudge against her, the giant robot charged straight in her direction.
Su Cheng cursed under her breath. What kind of main character attracts aggro like this?!
The machine’s massive arm swung down. Su Cheng quickly drew her blade to block. But the robot’s strength was overwhelming. With one hit, it sent her flying.
She crashed hard into a giant boulder, and her whole body screamed in pain. Stars danced before her eyes.
Just then, more smoke poured out—and dozens of knee-high robots shot out, speeding toward the supply trucks.
Su Cheng was speechless. So this was why even an S-rank Alpha like the original host got wrecked…
The tech gap was insane!
The enemy didn’t just come on strong—they came on ridiculously strong!
The vanguard soldiers fought back desperately, but those little robots were tough, immune to bullets and blades, and came with built-in flight systems. They slammed into people, climbed onto trucks, and stole supplies like trained thieves. Then they jumped, ran, and zipped off over cliffs and walls like it was nothing.
They were just openly robbing them.
Su Cheng was livid. What’s the point of playing anymore?! They were losing all their hard-earned supplies right before their eyes!
Tang Jin firmly positioned herself in front of a large truck, using her long staff to swiftly keep numerous robots at bay; however, there were too many enemies. The other trucks were getting looted left and right.
Su Cheng had a strong body, and although that earlier hit looked bad, it didn’t actually hurt her much. After a short break, she was just about to stand up when a sudden chill spread through her body.
It felt like death itself was looming over her. The hair behind her ears stood on end.
Without even thinking, her body leaned backward on instinct. Time appeared to halt abruptly. In that split second, she saw a silver bullet cut through the air—so close that it brushed the loose hair on her forehead…
