- Chapter 1 - Pomelo Green Tea
A loud slap echoed through the air as the man struck Yu Peirong hard across the face. Pain shot through her cheek, and she instinctively tried to step back, only to realize, a moment too late, that she no longer had legs.
Qi Xiyao stood nearby in a flowing red dress, her slender figure leaning softly against Yu Shang’s shoulder. She watched calmly as her Alpha boyfriend finally vented his anger on her behalf.
Yu Peirong was pinned against the wall by two strong bodyguards. No matter how hard she struggled, she couldn’t break free. The damp wall behind her was slick with moisture and covered in sticky spiderwebs. A dull pain lingered at the base of her neck, the lasting scar from where her gland had been removed.
“Yu Peirong,” the man growled from above, his voice filled with fury, “since you dared to forcefully mark my girlfriend, you should have known this day would come.”
The sound of police sirens grew louder in the distance. Hopelessness spread across Yu Peirong’s face like ashes. Known for her calm and decisive demeanor, this was the first time she looked truly defeated. Then, suddenly, from somewhere deep within, a burst of strength surged through her. She broke free from the guards and threw herself into the wall, bl00d splattering in all directions.
**
Yu Peirong jolted awake from the nightmare, gasping as she sat up in bed and drew a sharp breath.
The curtains blocked any view of the outside, and the room was completely dark. Only a sleek, modern nightlight glowed faintly, displaying the time. It was half past midnight.
A gentle trace of lavender lingered in the air. It was a high-end aromatherapy scent designed to help with sleep. Having studied fragrance blending before, she recognized it immediately.
She pressed her fingers to her temple, puzzled, and reached out to the nightstand for a tissue to wipe the sweat from her forehead. Her hand landed on nothing.
Her body tensed.
A strange thought crossed her mind, and with it, she reached down and touched the blanket on top of her.
Instead of the light air-conditioning throw she remembered using during the summer, her fingers met a smooth, cool silk quilt. The texture was completely different from the thick silk comforter she had in winter. This clearly was not her own bedding.
Had she been kidnapped?
Even in her confusion, there was a sense of familiarity she could not explain.
Why did this room look exactly like the one that belonged to that other Yu Peirong?
At that moment, her hand accidentally brushed against a button on the bed’s headboard. Soft music began to play from a nearby speaker, followed by a calm, clear AI voice.
“Do you have any requests, Miss Yu?”
Miss Yu?
Was she really that Yu Peirong?
“Miss Yu, your friend Zhao Siyan called three minutes ago. However, since you enabled night mode, the call was blocked automatically. Would you like to call her back now?”
Hearing Zhao Siyan’s name sent a wave of unease through Yu Peirong. She immediately replied, “Call back.”
As a warm light slowly illuminated the large room, its furnishings began to emerge from the darkness. They were unfamiliar yet eerily familiar. At the same time, a voice from the speaker made her frown slightly.
“Well well, Miss Yu is actually answering her phone. How was your night? What happened to that Omega I sent you? She’s brand new, just went through her first differentiation. She’s so fresh and pretty. Let me guess, is she in the shower now? You didn’t even prepare properly, and you still have time to chat?”
Yu Peirong’s frown deepened. She looked instinctively at the empty bed.
“I drank too much. I wasn’t interested. I sent her home.”
The voice on the other end clicked her tongue. “Boring. Fine then, get some rest. I’ll tell you the surprise outcome tomorrow.”
“What surprise?”
“Seriously? Are you actually drunk or just pretending? Qi Xiyao. You said you didn’t like her, right? Tonight I sent three Alphas after her. They’re at Qiyue Hotel. So what’s wrong with that…”
Before the sentence finished, Yu Peirong ended the call.
She cursed under her breath, grabbed her phone, got dressed quickly, and rushed out the door.
**
Three minutes later, Yu Peirong was sitting in a deep red, self-driving Bentley, rubbing her aching forehead as she recalled the plot of the story.
When she read The Long Road of the Top Alpha Chasing His Wife, the character she hated the most was the male lead’s arrogant and domineering sister, who happened to share her exact name.
The villainess was all looks and no substance. She was jealous of her younger brother, abused her power to suppress the heroine, used money and cruel words to mock her, and even tried to have her assaulted behind his back. Eventually, she forcefully marked the heroine, causing immense pain. After the heroine finally removed the mark, she and the male lead went through several misunderstandings and eventually ended up together. Meanwhile, the villainess was arrested, had her gland removed, and died alone and broken.
She also had a group of useless friends, all experts at manipulating and exploiting Omegas.
Yu Peirong remembered that the original character had gotten drunk at a party and casually complained to her friend Zhao Siyan about her brother’s girlfriend, Qi Xiyao. She had said something about the girl possibly using their family for personal gain.
Zhao Siyan wasn’t actually a close friend. She only spoke with her occasionally but acted overly familiar and constantly tried to please her. This time, she had come up with a stupid idea to please her.
In the original story, Qi Xiyao was nearly assaulted by three Alphas. The male lead arrived at the hotel just in time to save her. He didn’t touch her or take advantage of her vulnerability. He simply brought her home.
After that, Qi Xiyao fell deeply in love with him.
At first, it made the male lead look like a gentleman. But as Yu Peirong continued reading, she realized he was nothing more than a manipulative hypocrite.
He used the trauma from that night to control the heroine emotionally. Qi Xiyao had never been emotionally strong. At first, she argued back occasionally, but over time, under the constant pressure of his psychological manipulation, she broke down completely. Although they eventually ended up together, the male lead forced her to give up her promising career to become a full-time housewife.
Later, Qi Xiyao began to sense that he had genuine feelings for her and no longer resisted.
That was the point where Yu Peirong stopped reading. She could only wish those two a lifetime of locking each other down in toxic love.
Right now, though, she had bigger concerns. Her main goal was to avoid meeting the same tragic end as the villainess.
For starters, no matter what the reason, she could not allow Qi Xiyao to be assaulted by three men.
The streets were nearly empty in the dead of night. Yu Peirong pushed the Bentley to its speed limit. In just over ten minutes, she reached the hotel entrance.
As soon as she stepped out of the car, the cool night wind swept across her face, tossing her long golden-brown curls into the air.
Wearing high heels and a determined expression, Yu Peirong strode confidently toward the building.
**
Inside the hotel room, Qi Xiyao knelt on the soft carpet, her expression empty as she pressed her fingers against her neck gland.
The lighting in the room was dim. Her bare feet rested on the plush red carpet, her pale skin glowing faintly in the shadows. A wave of heat surged through her like a rising tide, gradually overwhelming her senses. She bit her lower lip and dug her nails into her palms, using the pain to push back the emotional chaos building within her.
It was too hot.
Her whole body burned.
Surrounded and overwhelmed by three Alphas, the Omega could hardly fight back. Even though her mind resisted and she felt sickened, the flood of pheromones made her legs go weak.
A thin layer of tears welled up in Qi Xiyao’s eyes, blurring her vision with helpless despair.
If she had known earlier what would happen at that dinner party, she would have rather burned every bridge with her company than obediently show up.
She had secretly turned on her phone recorder and saved evidence when they threatened her. But the moment her manager led her back to the hotel, she had been knocked unconscious by her own agent. When she woke up again, she found herself in an unfamiliar room.
In this room were three Alphas, staring her down like predators.
She had nothing with her. Even her phone had been taken away. The moment she regained consciousness, she was hit with a strong and foreign scent.
It was the mixed pheromones of several Alphas, a powerful and invasive form of forced arousal designed to overwhelm any Omega.
Qi Xiyao tried to hold her breath and resist, but in this closed space, the Alphas’ pheromones pierced her skin like invisible blades, invading every inch of her body.
Her own scent, that of pomelo green tea, began to rise in response. Under their forced stimulation, it finally broke through. Her legs gave out, her vision blurred, and she bit her tongue hard enough to taste bl00d. Even then, her reason slowly began to slip away, drowning her in a rising sense of danger.
The three Alphas exchanged glances. Each saw the same impulse reflected in the others’ eyes. They were only following orders, but none of them expected the target to be such a rare prize. This Omega was clearly not ordinary. Could she be S-class?
The Alpha closest to Qi Xiyao muttered an apology, then lunged toward her back. With the last of her strength, Qi Xiyao grabbed a high heel that had fallen nearby and swung it with all her might. She couldn’t see clearly, but the sharp heel struck the man’s face and tore it open. He hissed in pain and staggered back.
Rage lit up his eyes. He shoved Qi Xiyao roughly toward the door, and the scent of bl00d instantly thickened in the air.
A beep sounded.
The door lock clicked open just as light spilled into the room. Yu Peirong stepped in and instinctively caught the woman falling into her arms.
In the dim light, the sheen of sweat on Qi Xiyao’s pale skin glistened with an almost dangerous allure.
Before Yu Peirong could even get a clear look, the woman buried her face against Yu Peirong’s chest in a blind panic, wrinkling her custom-tailored suit. Soft arms clung tightly around her waist, as if trying to crawl inside her for protection.
Qi Xiyao’s voice was gentle but filled with despair. Every word trembled with pain, and her body shook uncontrollably as she spoke.
“Help me, please.”
