- Chapter 12 - Two-Timing
Bra not worn?
Yu Peirong froze for a second. Who wears a bra to sleep?
Qi Xiyao, as far as she knew, didn’t normally have the habit either.
But right now, the scent of Alpha pheromones mixed with an Omega’s fragrance was swirling through the air. It made Qi Xiyao’s legs feel weak, forcing her to lean against the cold bathroom wall to cool her heated body.
Just as she was about to step out, she accidentally knocked over a small bottle. At first, Qi Xiyao reached down to pick it up without much thought, but then she realized—it was a pheromone storage vial.
Inside was the scent of water gardenia, an Alpha’s pheromone.
Most Alpha pheromones Qi Xiyao had encountered were aggressive scents like fir, mint, or red wine. Just a whiff of those would give her headaches and make her feel suffocated. Worse yet, many Alphas were shameless, often releasing pheromones in public, thinking it would somehow charm Omegas.
But gardenia in water was gentle and refreshing. Gardenia itself was known for its rich floral aroma, and the water diluted it into something soft and less aggressive. The storage vial likely also had a pheromone-dampening effect, muting the scent. It wasn’t irritating at all.
Still, for an Omega nearing heat, it was a little too much.
Qi Xiyao hadn’t fully recovered after nearly being forcefully marked by three Alphas not long ago. Now, even the faintest trace of Alpha pheromones could overstimulate her.
Just then, Yu Peirong had called from outside. Qi Xiyao quickly pulled herself together, rinsed off again, and wiped down before stepping out.
—
Yu Peirong still had her hand on the door when it suddenly moved. She saw the woman gently push it open and step out.
In that moment, Yu Peirong instantly understood why Qi Xiyao had mentioned needing a bra.
Compared to Alphas, Omegas tended to have softer and more curvaceous figures. Yu Peirong hadn’t looked closely when she handed over the nightdress, but it turned out to be a loose, strappy style. The neckline exposed Qi Xiyao’s pale, smooth collarbones, and just beneath, the curve of her full chest.
Yu Peirong immediately averted her eyes in discomfort.
Strangely enough, despite living with actresses during filming in her past life, she had never felt awkward in those situations. Maybe this was the Alpha-Omega dynamic at play.
Qi Xiyao’s scent was soft and light, mostly from her white peach body wash. The long nightdress seemed slightly big for her. The hem fell past her knees, and the top, which she tried to adjust discreetly, almost revealed too much.
Even though she wasn’t looking directly at her anymore, Yu Peirong couldn’t stop her cheeks from turning red. The small bump behind her ear, where her scent glands were located, felt especially warm and sensitive now, even though it barely carried any pheromones.
“Sister Peirong,” Qi Xiyao said with a bit of awkwardness, clearly not used to staying at someone else’s place, “I’m a little tired, so I’ll head to bed now.”
Yu Peirong forced herself to keep a straight face and responded with a cool, indifferent tone that gave nothing away.
“Alright, go ahead.”
Only after Qi Xiyao disappeared down the hallway did Yu Peirong finally take a deep breath, feeling like she was sneaking a guilty breath of air just to calm down.
She tried to make out any remaining scent in the air, but all she could smell was the faint sweetness of peach body wash.
No pheromones.
Then why had she been so reactive?
When Qi Xiyao had stood nearby just moments ago, Yu Peirong had felt something strange in her body. Just a few glances, and her heart had started to pound wildly, although it hadn’t been as extreme as when she had been directly exposed to strong pheromones before.
Yu Peirong blamed the reaction on her unfamiliarity with this world. After rinsing her face with cold water, she decided not to go to bed. Instead, she went into the study to review some scripts.
She had already shortlisted a few projects for Qi Xiyao. Three of them looked promising, and she planned to make a decision soon. Qi Xiyao was still considered a third-tier actress. She had acting skills, yes, but it was still hard to compete with first- or second-tier celebrities who had massive online followings.
Yu Peirong had made up her mind to start her off with a second female lead role—something realistic, building up slowly.
All three scripts had strong, well-written second-lead characters. Given Yu Peirong’s past career as an actress, she knew exactly what kind of roles were worth taking. First, it was best to avoid those cliché villainous roles that only existed to fight the female lead for a man. Second, the character needed a complete, independent story arc to really shine.
The quiet of the night surrounded her. In the dark, only the soft light of the study lamp spilled across the room. Yu Peirong sat with her iPad, marking notes, circling lines, and carefully choosing the right script for Qi Xiyao.
Naturally, Yu Peirong had no intention of telling Qi Xiyao about the scripts directly. Instead, she planned to guide her toward the opportunity in a more roundabout and subtle way.
After all, helping the female lead was one thing, but she still had to maintain her own character setting. Yu Peirong didn’t want to die young, and she was already thinking about how to bargain with the system later on.
At 2:30 in the morning, Yu Peirong finally finished her work. She stretched with satisfaction and stood up from her chair to return to her bedroom.
Her phone, now fully charged on the nightstand, displayed three or four missed calls and a flood of unread messages. Just as she picked it up, a trending news alert popped up on the screen.
“#Qi Xiyao suspected of throwing herself at Yishui Entertainment’s CEO#”
A bold red tag marked it as a top trending topic, and it had already reached the number one spot on the hot search list, far surpassing gossip about several much more well-known celebrities.
The irony was, Qi Xiyao’s popularity level wasn’t even close to theirs, yet this story sat firmly at the top, unmoving.
It was obvious that someone was behind this. These were the same recycled but unfortunately effective tricks commonly used in the industry.
Yu Peirong casually scrolled through a few posts. She saw that the smear campaign was already in full swing, with marketing accounts flooding the feed—faces and formats she had become familiar with when she first arrived in this world and tried to understand the online ecosystem.
One post even featured a secretly filmed video of her coaching Qi Xiyao in acting. Someone must have hidden outside to record it. From that exterior angle and with clever cropping, the video gave off the illusion of an intimate moment between the two.
While still processing it all, Yu Peirong redialed the secretary’s number. The call connected immediately, as if the secretary had been waiting by the phone.
The voice on the other end was clearly flustered and rose in pitch with urgency.
“President Yu, did you bring a girl home tonight? The paparazzi caught it, and now they’re saying you’re two-timing!”
