- Chapter 13 - Good Sisters
Although the business world was different from the entertainment industry, many powerful figures still appeared in the public eye through charity events and interviews.
Not long ago, an Alpha investor was exposed for engaging in shady dealings. The follow-up clarification was weak, and as a result, his company’s stock dropped by several points.
Yishui Entertainment was a publicly listed company, and Yu Peirong was its legal representative. Her reputation affected the entire company.
The rumor being pushed online now suggested that she was having a questionable relationship with one of her female artists and had taken another woman home afterward. Someone had photographed Yu Peirong getting into a car with Qi Xiyao. Although the photo was blurry, the paparazzi had intentionally applied a faint mosaic filter, making it look even more suspicious. With most people still awake at this hour, the story quickly attracted attention and spread across the internet.
People were asking, who was President Yu? Apparently, she managed Yishui Entertainment.
No one really knew what she was like. It was enough to mock and accuse her just for the fun of it.
Many users online were eager to fan the flames. The more chaotic the public opinion, the more excited they became. They tried every tactic to stir up drama, and they would not stop until Yu Peirong’s name was dragged through the mud.
The person most affected was Qi Xiyao. While Yu Peirong’s name was sitting at number six on the trending list, Qi Xiyao was stuck at number one.
An anonymous “truthful employee” posted on a Q&A forum claiming that Qi Xiyao was far from innocent. The post accused her of seducing Yu Peirong’s younger brother, having a secret relationship with him, and then dumping him to go after Yu Peirong once she appeared.
Yu Peirong spent two minutes scanning the post. It was full of dramatic nonsense, describing Qi Xiyao as some kind of reincarnated temptress who could make any Alpha fall in love at first sight.
Her secretary was still on the phone, waiting for instructions. After reading everything, Yu Peirong asked calmly, “Where’s the PR department?”
The secretary sounded breathless. “We found two people. They’re currently trying to negotiate with Weibo to remove the trending topic, but it’s clear someone is pulling strings behind the scenes. Our usual contact is stalling and avoiding the issue.”
Yu Peirong paused to think.
Every entertainment company had connections. No one would believe it if they said otherwise. Everyone knew how paid trends worked. It was an open secret.
The secretary added, “We’ve contacted the marketing accounts we normally work with. They’re preparing clarification posts. But there’s one thing…”
She hesitated, clearly trying to summon the courage to ask if the person Yu Peirong brought home was really an Omega. Before she could finish, Yu Peirong answered directly.
“I brought Qi Xiyao home.”
There was a long pause on the other end. “What?”
“I had the car in autopilot mode,” Yu Peirong explained patiently. “We were talking, and I accidentally set the wrong destination. Neither of us noticed. It was too late when we arrived, so I didn’t make her go home. That’s all. We have a very clean and proper relationship.”
She was telling the truth, but the secretary felt extremely awkward. She had known the original Yu Peirong before the personality change and was well aware of what kind of person she used to be.
And now, the same boss was saying she brought an Omega home in the middle of the night, but there was nothing between them. Who would believe that?
Even a “clean” relationship in bed was still a relationship.
Hearing no response, Yu Peirong sighed as if expecting the doubt. “You don’t believe me?”
The secretary hesitated for just one second, weighing the risks of telling the truth against the importance of keeping her job. Then, through gritted teeth, she replied, “Of course I do.”
Several seconds of silence followed. In the darkness of the night, the pause felt especially long. Time seemed to stretch out, one second at a time, as if slipping through a slow-motion hourglass. Just when the secretary was about to give up and call the legal department on her backup phone, Yu Peirong’s calm and composed voice came through again.
“Help me schedule a medical exam. Today during the day. At a public hospital. Once you’ve booked it, get some rest. You don’t need to worry about the trending topic. Let it stay.”
The secretary let out a surprised sound but didn’t object. She immediately booked an appointment at the best public hospital in the city. Then, unable to hold back her frustration, she sent a voice message to a colleague and close friend.
“Did you see the trending topic? President Yu just asked me to schedule a medical exam for her at a public hospital. She wants to go today. Unless she’s trying to get a certificate saying she’s physically incapable of marking anyone, I’m going to go ahead and start writing my resignation letter.”
Her friend worked in the public relations department and was already overwhelmed by the situation. She immediately sent back a voice reply.
“She wants a medical exam? Is it at the neurology department? Yu Peirong is completely out of control lately…”
Yu Peirong slept until seven in the morning. She woke up feeling refreshed and used the AI assistant to order breakfast for herself and Qi Xiyao. When she stepped out of her room, she found Qi Xiyao looking drained. Faint dark circles under her eyes revealed that she likely hadn’t slept all night.
Unlike Yu Peirong, who had already survived storms in her previous world, Qi Xiyao had never experienced being at the center of such a massive, fabricated scandal. No wonder she felt upset.
When she saw Yu Peirong walking over calmly with the breakfast delivery, Qi Xiyao assumed she didn’t know what had happened. She forced herself to push down her frustration and offered a polite smile.
“Good morning, President Yu.”
Yu Peirong noticed the shift in tone but said nothing. She handed her the breakfast.
It was shrimp crystal dumplings and cranberry juice. Qi Xiyao didn’t like Western food in the morning and avoided fried dishes like youtiao to stay in shape. Her go-to was usually a dumpling or a bun with a glass of juice.
Yu Peirong had remembered her preferences from the book. She had memorized them without even realizing and had ordered accordingly.
Qi Xiyao was surprised as she accepted the breakfast. She hadn’t planned on eating, but seeing her favorite cranberry juice made her want to try a few sips. After a sleepless night filled with anxiety, she knew the whole situation wasn’t really President Yu’s fault. It had been her own carelessness.
Sigh.
Yu Peirong didn’t eat much for breakfast. It wasn’t because she was desperately trying to lose weight like some others. She simply didn’t have much of an appetite in the mornings.
She watched as Qi Xiyao’s expression shifted repeatedly. From confusion and frustration at first, to surprise, and then a quiet happiness as she tasted the juice. Yu Peirong couldn’t help but smile. She quickly raised her soy milk and took a sip, using the movement to hide the smile spreading at the corners of her lips.
In the novel, this juice came from a hidden gem of a shop that Qi Xiyao discovered later on. At the time, she had happily shared it with Yu Shang. But Yu Shang had no interest in sweets. He simply told her to watch her weight and even pulled out one of those so-called “female height and weight charts” to lecture her. It had been dull and annoying.
Now, Qi Xiyao looked like a tiny hamster enjoying her favorite snack. The slight sorrow that had gathered between her brows vanished under the comforting sweetness of the juice.
Yu Peirong had no idea what kind of life Qi Xiyao had lived. The novel hadn’t revealed much about her background in the early chapters, so she couldn’t understand why such a beautiful and gentle Omega could be made so happy by such a small thing.
Still, she found herself softening. Her heart responded naturally to the joy in Qi Xiyao’s smile.
“Is it really that good?”
Yu Peirong had only asked casually. But the next moment, Qi Xiyao handed her the juice.
She had been sipping it slowly, and about half was still left. Yu Peirong instinctively took it and drank through the same straw. The fresh cranberry juice was both tart and sweet, with a balanced blend of fruit and water. It was light, refreshing, and perfect for breakfast.
It wasn’t until after the second sip that Yu Peirong suddenly realized she had just shared a straw with someone. That meant an indirect kiss. She froze awkwardly, unsure whether to keep holding the drink or return it.
Luckily, Qi Xiyao didn’t seem to mind. Or maybe she hadn’t noticed at all. She just smiled and took it back without hesitation.
After finishing breakfast, Yu Peirong deliberately made up an excuse to avoid going to the company with Qi Xiyao. She wanted to prevent any unnecessary attention. Since she had just picked a script for Qi Xiyao, it was more important than ever to handle the current scandal quickly. The trending topic was still stuck at number one. The longer it stayed there, the more it would damage Qi Xiyao’s reputation.
The public relations team had done their best. They managed to negotiate the topic down briefly, but it kept climbing back to the top. The only silver lining was that the label had lost the red “explosive” tag. The title had also been updated to something more neutral: “Yishui Entertainment’s Qi Xiyao.”
The secretary had arrived with the driver and looked at the energetic, well-rested Yu Peirong with visible disbelief. Her mind was already filled with ideas about how to submit her resignation letter.
The system noticed Yu Peirong heading to the hospital and, although it didn’t yet understand what she planned to do, immediately gave a warning.
“Host, all missions must be completed without breaking character.”
“I know,” Yu Peirong replied lazily.
She was still thinking about the little smile Qi Xiyao had given her that morning. Sitting in the back seat, her lips curved slightly without her realizing it.
Her slender fingers reached up and gently touched the small gland behind her ear. As soon as she felt the lingering tingling from the night before, she quickly pulled her hand away. Her expression returned to calm. She still carried the cool, untouchable air of an Alpha, like frost resting quietly on winter plum blossoms. But her outfit today did not match that energy. She had applied a soft, sweet makeup look and was even wearing a pale pink dress she had never tried before.
“Don’t you think,” she said softly, “that pretending to be her close friend first and then betraying her when she least expects it feels even more satisfying? Isn’t that something a real scumbag would do?”
The system paused for a full two seconds. It looked at the graceful and elegant woman seated in the back seat, perfectly composed. Then, after a short hesitation, it finally replied.
“Host, are you planning to… castrate yourself?”
Yu Peirong was silent.
