- Chapter 15 - A New Script
Yu Peirong only began speaking once the livestream reached two million viewers.
“Last night, the paparazzi claimed I was seeing two people at once and brought a woman home. The woman I brought back was Qi Xiyao. That photo of us in the office is real, but it was taken while I was helping her get into character for a role.”
“Yes, we are friends, but this has nothing to do with Yu Shang. I did not get to know her because of him.”
Yu Peirong was not lying. The original Yu Peirong had not met Qi Xiyao because of Yu Shang. She had first noticed a beautiful Omega and only later learned that Qi Xiyao was her younger brother’s girlfriend. That was when her thoughts became complicated.
Some people on the internet cannot stand to see others doing well. When someone spoke up for Qi Xiyao, others quickly began mocking her in the live chat:
“These reports can be faked. Qi Xiyao must be very skilled to get someone so powerful to defend her.”
“Are you serious? Calling Qi Xiyao impressive? If she is really that amazing, why has she been hiding all this time and only posting on Weibo? Her fans have not seen her in person at all.”
“Let it be known that QXY has taken over the whole company. Happy now?”
“Thank you, beautiful lady. Can you tell us what the real relationship is between Yu Shang and Qi Xiyao? The internet is full of rumors that they are secretly dating. I am a fan. I do hope you focus on your career, but if you want to date, that is fine too.”
“Do you even need to ask? Yu Shang has already posted several selfies with Qi Xiyao.”
“That is so funny. Just because Yu Shang posted a photo with her means he likes her? He also has pictures with many employees. Does that mean he likes everyone in the company?”
The live chat was chaotic with everyone offering their opinions. When the focus turned to Yu Shang and Qi Xiyao, Yu Peirong frowned slightly.
In the beginning, Qi Xiyao was only considered Yu Shang’s girlfriend because he treated her that way. She had never agreed to it. He had been threatening her the entire time. Still, in the eyes of many in the company, they were in a relationship.
Yu Shang used to flatter her in public and even gave her pet names while laughing. People always said that Young Master Yu was devoted. Some joked that she should just accept him. No one ever cared how Qi Xiyao actually felt.
While Yu Peirong was thinking about how to respond, an unexpected phone call almost interrupted the stream.
She saw an unfamiliar number and hung up immediately. But the caller dialed again without giving up.
“Sorry, something has come up. I will chat with everyone another time.”
To avoid misunderstandings, Yu Peirong covered her phone number and showed the screen to the viewers, making it clear that she had to end the stream because of an unexpected situation.
When she answered the call, a loud male voice came through the speaker.
“Yu Peirong! You blocked my number? Who gave you the nerve to do that?”
A soft female voice followed closely behind.
“Brother Tian, please calm down. Peirong is still young. There is no need for us elders to get angry over something like this.” Then she leaned toward the phone and spoke in a sweet voice. “Peirong, how can you be so rude? Hurry up and apologize to your father.”
Brother Tian? Yu Litian? Her biological father?
Yu Peirong remembered everything.
Her mother had died when she was just a child and had left behind a large inheritance. One year later, her father married a beautiful young Omega, who then gave birth to a son named Yu Shang.
The strange part was that Yu Shang was only a few months younger than her. That meant her father had already cheated before her mother passed away.
Over the years, Yu Litian had taken a hands-off approach to parenting. He acted like he cherished his only daughter, but he never gave her the love of a father or mother. In the end, she tried to fill that emptiness by spending money recklessly.
Her father had been raising her to become a spoiled and unambitious heiress.
But that plan was based on the belief that she was an Alpha.
The man on the phone kept shouting, demanding that she come home. He had recently learned that his daughter was actually an Omega. He could not understand it and had finally found a reason to push her out of the company. To people like him, Omegas were supposed to be weak and delicate, staying at home and needing protection. In his eyes, someone like her should not be managing a company.
Yu Peirong had no interest in arguing. She hung up the call without saying another word and blocked the number as calmly as if she were dealing with a stalker.
Five minutes later, she saw Qi Xiyao standing at the door. She pressed the fingerprint lock on her desk.
As the glass door slowly opened, the woman in plain clothes rushed in like a light-footed bird. Her cheeks were slightly flushed.
“Thank you,” she said softly.
Qi Xiyao looked at her with genuine sincerity.
“Sorry to trouble you, Director Yu.”
At first, she had been confused by Yu Peirong’s sudden kindness. She had wondered if Yu Peirong had discovered something and was trying to make her drop her guard.
But this had been a perfect chance to ruin her reputation. Yu Peirong did not even need to do anything. Just staying silent would have allowed public opinion to destroy her.
Since taking over the company, Yu Shang had carefully built a public image of a gentle and refined CEO. He had many fans who saw him as the ideal man. Now, those fans were flooding Qi Xiyao’s inbox with hateful and mocking messages. They accused her of trying to climb the social ladder and become something she was not.
With so much pressure, Qi Xiyao had begun to doubt the things Yu Peirong had told her, even though they were partly true.
She had never imagined that Yu Peirong would actually go so far as to do a gender verification report for her.
Qi Xiyao’s gaze was a mix of embarrassment and gratitude. Yu Peirong almost said something, but she held the words back.
Sitting in her executive chair, Yu Peirong looked relaxed. Her red lips parted and closed. After a moment, she handed over a printed audition invitation.
Qi Xiyao assumed it was just another minor role. After all, she had been suppressed by Yu Shang for so long that any opportunity felt like a blessing.
But when she looked at the paper, her hand trembled slightly. Her expression changed.
“Director Quan’s Twin Lives?”
Yu Peirong gave a quiet “yes” and resisted the urge to look at her. Her voice remained calm and even, holding back any emotion.
“Do well and do not embarrass me. If you fail this audition, getting other roles later will be much harder.”
What Yu Peirong did not see was how complex Qi Xiyao’s emotions had become.
