[System has been activated.]
[Worldline detection complete. Narrative has resumed.]
What was that?
Just as Yu Peirong had finished speaking and started to feel relieved, a strange, genderless electronic voice suddenly rang out in her mind. The shock made her stiffen.
Qi Xiyao assumed Yu Peirong was angry again. Her body trembled even more. In a panic, she tried to help fix Yu Peirong’s clothing but hesitated midway and ended up curling into a small ball on the sofa, completely unsure of what to do.
Thanks to her years of acting experience, Yu Peirong quickly regained her composure. She gestured for Qi Xiyao to stay still, then calmly walked aside to adjust her clothes.
[Welcome to the novel world of “The Alpha’s Long Road to Winning His Wife Back.” Your assigned identity is Yu Peirong.]
[You have officially entered into a role-playing contract with our company. During the contract period, you are required to portray your character according to the original setting and maintain logical development.]
Yu Peirong frowned slightly as she looked around at the mess in the hotel room. She communicated silently with the voice in her mind.
“When did I agree to sign any contract? I do not belong here. When can I return?”
The system replied with complete confidence.
[Because your arrival disrupted the logical flow of the plot, enforcement is mandatory. Once the host completes her mission, she will be able to return to her original world.]
Yu Peirong said nothing more. She had no choice but to accept it.
Although annoyed, she knew survival was her priority. There was no point in wasting time arguing with the system.
Thankfully, the system did not require her to follow a specific plot. All it demanded was that the story remain logical. Once the female lead found her rightful ending, Yu Peirong would be free to leave.
In the original story, Yu Peirong’s character would never have helped the female lead without a reason. If anything, she would have taken the chance to make things worse. So if Yu Peirong suddenly acted kind toward Qi Xiyao, it would break the internal logic and lead to immediate consequences. That was not a risk she was willing to take.
After thinking it through, Yu Peirong turned her gaze toward Qi Xiyao with a sharper edge in her eyes.
Yu Peirong was already tall. Her coat was loosely draped over her shoulders, and she leaned against the edge of the sofa, looking down at Qi Xiyao. From that angle, she appeared dominant and distant. Qi Xiyao looked like a small, helpless creature, stripped of all defenses and trembling in someone else’s grasp.
The grape-colored crystal chandelier above them cast a soft yellow glow, outlining Yu Peirong’s graceful figure.
Her brows were slender and slightly arched, giving her expression a touch of sharpness. Even without makeup, her facial features were striking. Her long fingers rested lightly on the edge of the sofa. She stood partially in the shadow, her presence elegant yet dangerous.
Looking at the woman still filled with fear, Yu Peirong slowly parted her lips and spoke before walking away.
“Be in my office tomorrow morning at nine thirty. Do not be late.”
The next morning, 9 a.m., outside Yishui Entertainment
A woman in high heels stepped out from the driver’s seat of a deep burgundy Rolls-Royce. She wore a light camel-colored trench coat that highlighted her slim, graceful figure. Around her pale neck was a collarbone chain with the word “GOD” and a delicate skull-shaped charm, adding a touch of cool elegance to her appearance.
This was Yu Peirong’s third time at Yishui Entertainment since the company was founded.
The original Yu Peirong had only been here twice before. The first time had no real meaning. The second time was because she heard there were many attractive men and women auditioning for a new idol group. She had come out of curiosity, hoping for some excitement.
She had definitely found excitement. That visit ended with her catching her father in an intimate moment with one of the Omega contestants. The shock kept her away from the company for the next two or three years.
The original Yu Peirong had a personality that relied on strength against the weak but crumbled in the face of real authority. For example, she had never dared confront her father. Even though she knew he behaved inappropriately, she lived off the crumbs he allowed and never dared say a word.
Technically, Yu Peirong held the largest share of Yishui Entertainment. However, in recent years, actual control had always been in Yu Shang’s hands. The original Yu Peirong had no ambition. She wasted the money her mother left her and lived without purpose.
Yu Shang was more than happy to take over. He not only got control but also absorbed extra profits. Yu Peirong had always ignored it, which was why she had tolerated even the slap yesterday without a word.
Today, when Yu Shang heard Yu Peirong was coming, he assumed she was just making another casual appearance. Perhaps she wanted to look like she was managing the company or maybe she was here to flirt with someone. He even made sure that the more attractive artists, the ones he had not yet taken an interest in, were all out and about in the open areas.
His intentions were obvious to anyone watching.
From the moment Yu Peirong stepped out of the car and walked toward the elevator, she encountered no fewer than three Omegas. One of them, a particularly handsome young man, even winked at her, his eyes clearly suggesting that he was ready to offer himself if she were interested.
Sensing his intention, Yu Peirong gave him a faint smile just as the elevator doors opened. Her lips curved slightly, but her eyes remained cold and detached.
The young man got the message and awkwardly backed off. However, that small smile didn’t go unnoticed. A few employees watching from a distance began whispering among themselves, discussing the mysterious major shareholder who rarely appeared in the building.
By the time Qi Xiyao arrived at the company, the first thing she heard was the low murmur of two female artists chatting nearby.
Their voices were kept deliberately soft, and the moment they noticed someone approaching, they quickly stopped talking.
Qi Xiyao was dressed simply in a clean, white French-style high-waisted dress. The delicate lace trim at the hem added a touch of elegance. Her facial features were naturally refined, and even with minimal makeup, her bright eyes and gentle expression stood out clearly. The two women nearby were Betas. Though they were also attractive, they simply could not match the natural allure of an Omega. Standing next to Qi Xiyao, they were easily overshadowed.
When she saw them, Qi Xiyao gave a polite smile and a slight nod. Her status in the company was a bit lower, and she did not usually have much contact with them.
At first, the two women did not pay much attention to where Qi Xiyao was headed. But when they noticed that the elevator stopped on the 15th floor, where President Yu had gone that morning—one of their expressions changed noticeably.
“Qi Xiyao knows President Yu?”
“Let’s go take a look.”
Though both women had already made it to mid-tier celebrity status, they were still drawn to gossip like moths to a flame. They had caused trouble more than once and often gave their managers headaches. Now, with no one else around, they quietly followed after her and soon spotted Qi Xiyao and Yu Peirong together through the glass wall of a private office.
Inside, Qi Xiyao’s smaller figure stood in front of the tall and elegant Yu Peirong. Her cheeks were flushed, and she nervously clutched the fabric at her chest. Yu Peirong stood in front of her desk, looking her over with a critical gaze, as if evaluating whether Qi Xiyao’s appearance and figure were enough to satisfy her appetite.
The woman with short hair immediately lit up, pulled out her phone, and quickly snapped a few photos while muttering under her breath.
“I heard this President Yu once hinted she came to the company looking for a fling. If they know each other, it wouldn’t be all that surprising. But the place… well, it doesn’t exactly look like anything official.”
