I Tried to Become a Worthless Scumbag to Break Our Engagement for His Happiness, but Instead I Was Hugged, Kissed, and Sworn Eternal Love by the Ice Knight (BL) - CHAPTER 10
Before he knew it, Fleck had already turned twelve, and he still had not managed to break the engagement. He grew restless.
He didn’t want to get in the way of Heliosphere’s bright and happy school life. If they entered together next year, that would be the end of everything. This couldn’t go on. While studying desperately to become a civil official, Fleck kept thinking of a way out.
He had gained enough knowledge to maybe work as a civil official. Because of his special constitution, his magic sense was sharp, but he still had no talent for magic. His body was weak, and he lacked the strength to fight. There was nothing he was good at.
Even so, he continued studying to be a civil official, because he knew his only future was being sent away to the Eastern Demon Wasteland frontlines. Fleck had already decided to make that place his final home.
That was why his only goal was to quickly have the engagement broken, and then be exiled to the Eastern Demon Wasteland.
He never wanted to bring misfortune to the one he loved, the person who always looked at him with a gentle smile.
So, Fleck began going to playgrounds where even children could come and go. There, he mixed with many boys and girls of his own age. He didn’t want to do anything truly dangerous, so he avoided getting too close to anyone. Still, he kept repeating small acts, like putting his arm around others.
He tried every kind of “bad play” that a child could do. He tried to become a worthless delinquent.
His family warned him many times. Heliosphere did too. Each time, Fleck almost said, “I won’t do it again,” but swallowed the words.
So, he wasted his time playing around. It felt empty. It wasn’t fun. Pretending to be stupid, he poured his allowance into those playgrounds.
But he had already thought of a way to keep Heliosphere’s magic outbursts under control, even when he wasn’t there. One day, Fleck found a prize at the playground: an unaligned magic stone. He realized his strange constitution could be temporarily given to others. If it was an unaligned magic stone, maybe he could give it a trait.
And he succeeded. Pouring his power desperately into the stone, he managed to fix the ability of “magic absorption” into it.
Fleck rejoiced. Now he would have no more worries.
From then on, he sent those unaligned stones, won as prizes at the playground, anonymously to Heliosphere. Because it was a playground, even that kind of strange “game” was allowed.
At first, the stones would surely be thrown away. But if he sent them again and again, Heliosphere would grow curious and check their power. Eventually, they would be appraised and end up in Heliosphere’s hands.
Fleck was— wishing for happiness.
Fleck was mistaken, thinking that Heliosphere’s kindness was endless, given freely without limit. But—that smile, the one Heliosphere would show while holding his child in his arms— no matter how much Fleck loved him, he could never give him that.
So—because he loved him—Fleck wished glory for the brilliant Heliosphere.
