I Tried to Become a Worthless Scumbag to Break Our Engagement for His Happiness, but Instead I Was Hugged, Kissed, and Sworn Eternal Love by the Ice Knight (BL) - CHAPTER 11
Fleck jumped up. It felt like the shock of a monster crashing into the government quarters.
His bl00d ran cold, and memories of many things came back to him, but this was the inside of a carriage.
Apparently, the wheel had only hit a stone and shaken.
He realized he had been dreaming of old times. From under his clothes, he touched the chain hanging from his neck. At the end of it was a matching ring. It no longer held any meaning, but because Heliosphere had chosen it, it was Fleck’s treasure.
When Fleck was sent to the Eastern Demon Frontier as a government officer, he thought he would never return alive. That was why he told his superior: if he died, he wanted this ring to be delivered to his family. His family would never tell the Duke of Nyuno household about Fleck’s true feelings, even if they received it. Still, Fleck wanted at least his family to know the truth.
And then came Fleck’s sixteenth spring. Suddenly, peace arrived at the Eastern Demon Frontier.
A young soldier had fought and defeated the monster that reigned at the very top of the frontier.
In the end, he was to marry her. A peace treaty was then signed between the Kingdom of Kamiokande and the monster who ruled the frontier. Thus, the long conflict finally came to an end.
That young man was the son of commoners, born in the Worthworth territory. Straightforward, with a bold personality, he was close to Fleck in age, and they often spoke. One day, he came to Fleck for advice, saying he had someone he loved and wanted to propose to. Fleck suggested that he give a wedding ring at the proposal.
After all, the ring was Fleck’s most precious treasure. He had sworn to live in the frontier, keeping the ring as his lifelong support. So it was easy to explain to the young man just how special a ring could be.
Convinced by Fleck’s words, the young man asked for help in preparing a ring. Fleck helped him, gave advice for the proposal, and even helped prepare the wedding. And so, the marriage between the young man and the monster in the form of a girl who reigned over the frontier was a success.
That very marriage became the foundation for the peace treaty.
Because of this, Fleck himself became one of the key figures who brought the war to an end. And so, despite the mountain of post-war duties, Fleck was given the order to return to the capital.
The scenery outside had already changed into the familiar streets he knew. The nostalgic road leading home. The coachman told him they would soon arrive.
Before long, the carriage stopped. Through the window, Fleck saw his family waiting in front of the mansion. He stepped down smoothly from the carriage as the door was opened for him.
In his hand, a cane. He leaned on it as he began to walk.
His mother collapsed in shock, and his father had to catch her. His brother and sister ran toward him as if propelled forward. The faces of the longtime servants were dark with grief.
So, facing the people he was seeing again for the first time in so long, Fleck said,
“Well, well, I never expected the war to end so soon. What a surprise, right?”
He acted as he always did.
It was Fleck’s sixteenth spring. Having lost his left eye, and with his right leg crippled, Fleck returned to
