I Tried to Become a Worthless Scumbag to Break Our Engagement for His Happiness, but Instead I Was Hugged, Kissed, and Sworn Eternal Love by the Ice Knight (BL) - CHAPTER 17
In front of the small Torino estate stood a carriage so fine and beautiful it seemed out of place. One of the coachmen bowed and waited, and Fleck hurried to climb aboard. He nearly stumbled, and the coachman scolded him, “Please don’t rush!”
The carriage of the Nuno family rolled smoothly along the calm road. Bathed in the morning sunlight, its shining body caught the eyes of passersby, who wondered if the rumored Ice Nobleman might be riding inside.
But the curtains were drawn, and a mother holding her child only laughed, “Too bad.”
Fleck had closed the curtains on purpose so that no one would see him. If someone gossip-hungry discovered that the former fiancé was riding inside, they would surely twist the story and spread lies on the wind.
The one thing Fleck could not allow was to trouble Heliosphere. So, in the dim interior, he simply waited for their arrival.
After some time, the carriage stopped, and the coachman announced that they had arrived.
Fleck replied with an acknowledgment and waited for Heliosphere to appear. But no matter how long he waited, Heliosphere did not come. Peeking through a gap in the curtain, Fleck saw two gatekeepers at the front gate. Their expressions made it clear they had already sent word of the carriage’s arrival to the mansion. Yet they kept glancing between the gate and the carriage, exchanging looks with one another. Surely, they were thinking: Why would anyone choose Fleck Torino as an assistant? Fleck remembered even the coachman’s bewilderment earlier, and let out a long, heavy sigh.
As he began to nod off, he heard voices exchanging greetings—Good morning. Startled, Fleck straightened his posture. The coachman opened the carriage door and swiftly set out the steps. Moments later, Heliosphere climbed inside.
“Why did you not come down?”
Fleck swallowed back the good morning he had been about to say. Two reasons left him speechless.
First, Heliosphere’s appearance was far too dazzling. Second, there was a strange anger in his expression.
The former—his attire. Just as Fleck had once dreamed, he wore the academy uniform, with the simplified mantle of the Magic Knights draped across his shoulder. A stylish tie pin and cufflinks suited him perfectly, leaving Fleck at a loss for words. To see Heliosphere so splendid, and yet without a rightful marriage partner, was proof that the world itself had gone mad. Fleck even felt a surge of indignation on his behalf.
And then, the latter—Heliosphere’s anger. Fleck could not understand why he was being scolded.
“I thought I should wait here,” he answered.
“Why would you think that?”
“I have no right to pass through that gate.”
That was nothing but the truth. So much so that Fleck himself almost wanted to scold Heliosphere for asking. But of course, he could not. Instead, he could only push back with reason.
