I Tried to Become a Worthless Scumbag to Break Our Engagement for His Happiness, but Instead I Was Hugged, Kissed, and Sworn Eternal Love by the Ice Knight (BL) - CHAPTER 26
A short while later, ignoring Fleck’s little worries, Heliosphere guided him down onto the sofa and drew a basket out of his pocket-space magic. When Fleck leaned over and peeked inside, he saw a neat row of sandwiches that looked absolutely delicious.
“Ah—wow, this is, um… it’s that one.”
The familiar fillings made Fleck swallow hard without thinking.
“There are plenty, so eat as much as you like.”
Heliosphere offered him a large sandwich as he spoke.
“Th-thank you very much.”
Fleck accepted it, peeled back a corner of the paper wrap, and immediately took a big bite. His eyes shut tight, tears pricked the corners, and he let out a muffled hum of delight. Soft, snowy-white bread, with seasonal vegetables and a terrine made from meat that paired perfectly with them— this sandwich was one of Fleck’s absolute favorites.
Both the bread and the terrine were specialties of the Nuno family. Long ago, when Fleck had eaten them separately, he had thrown a fit and declared, I want to eat them together in a sandwich! Heliosphere had simply smiled and agreed, then ordered it from the cook. Since then, this terrine sandwich had become a regular choice for lunch and snacks.
The sweetness of the vegetables, the savor of the meat, all wrapped in fluffy bread— an irresistibly tasty sandwich. It had been a while since he last had one, and so Fleck devoured it with greedy focus, polishing off the first in no time.
Just then, Heliosphere set down a steaming soup mug in front of him. Inside was corn soup, and Fleck eagerly grabbed it up and sipped slowly.
Watching from the corner of his eye, Heliosphere also took a bite of his own sandwich.
“Ah… this one has the white fish you like, Fleck. Want some?”
“Eh?”
Startled, Fleck stared at the sandwich held out toward him. A sandwich with a bite already missing.
Yet its taste was surely untouched—if anything, it looked even more tempting. He glanced up at Heliosphere, who smiled as if to say It’s delicious. Unable to resist, Fleck gave in to his appetite and bit into it.
“Mmmhh—” A sound escaped him before he knew it. The white-fish terrine he loved so much was just as good as ever—no, even better after so long. He ate on, forgetting himself.
“Fleck.”
“Ah, s-sorry—”
Only after he’d eaten more than half did Fleck remember it was Heliosphere’s sandwich. His face went pale.
“You’ve got some on your lips.”
“Eh, ah—”
But Heliosphere didn’t scold him. Instead, he gently wiped the corner of Fleck’s mouth. Still smiling softly, he held out the rest. “It’s fine. You can finish it.”
“You really do love this, don’t you?”
The word love on Heliosphere’s lips made Fleck blush furiously, even though he knew it wasn’t that kind of love.
“E-hehe… y-yeah, I love it.”
“There’s plenty more. Eat as much as you want.”
“Y-yes.”
Fleck swallowed back the cheerful Yes, sir! that almost burst out, stuffing it down together with another bite of sandwich. From there, he went on to enjoy everything prepared for him, savoring even the dessert pudding to the very last spoonful.
