I Tried to Become a Worthless Scumbag to Break Our Engagement for His Happiness, but Instead I Was Hugged, Kissed, and Sworn Eternal Love by the Ice Knight (BL) - CHAPTER 9
The truth of the future, something that was going to happen. Fleck had dreamed it, and from that day on, he changed.
He became quiet. He stopped calling him Rio. He stopped asking for selfish things. He started studying properly.
The sudden change confused the people around him. But since it was a good change, the adults accepted it. Heliosphere looked very lonely, yet when he heard Fleck say he wanted to become a civil official, he began to cheer him on.
Fleck felt heavy at heart. Heliosphere was excellent in magic, swordsmanship, and knowledge—he excelled at everything. And yet, his only flaw was a special condition that caused magical outbursts, and because of that, he was forced into an engagement with someone like Fleck.
Same-s3x marriage was accepted. Political marriages were common. But as long as the partner was good, people only gave blessings.
The more Heliosphere grew, the more brilliant he became, and the more Fleck fell behind—so much so that the word “unworthy” no longer seemed enough.
Fleck thought he was trying his best. He really tried. But his special body nullified magic. He could not cast spells. He could not use magical tools. He could not hope for height. Perhaps his body was weak by nature—no matter how much time passed, he could not even hold a sword. They told him not to think about stepping onto the battlefield. But then—what about the opposite? If martial arts were impossible, what about learning?
“Well, haha…”
Fleck would laugh it off whenever his tutor taught him with passion. Getting a barely passing grade was already an achievement. Fleck was aware of this, so he studied steadily, always sticking to the basics. But the gap only grew.
The excellent Heliosphere. The failing Fleck. The gap grew wider and wider. Fleck could tell that everyone thought of their engagement as a tragedy.
So, he tried to make Heliosphere hate him— saying cruel selfish things, throwing insults, throwing tantrums.
Yet Heliosphere was always kind. He accepted everything—selfishness, insults, tantrums—saying they were all “cute.” When Fleck gave up because it was useless, Heliosphere asked,
“So, you won’t make selfish wishes anymore?”
Hearing that, Fleck fell in love with his kindness all over again.
In time, Heliosphere prepared matching engagement rings, made from gems the same colors as their eyes. Every time Fleck saw Heliosphere wearing his ring, his heart sank, because he knew they would have to part one day. So, he made an excuse: “I don’t want to lose it,” and chose not to wear it.
If he put it on his finger, he feared he would lose to his own desire to stay his fiancé.
Still, he wanted to keep it close. So, Fleck strung the ring on a strong chain and wore it around his neck.
Whenever he touched it through his clothes, he felt calm. Before long, the ring had become Fleck’s personal charm.
