I Turned Out to Be the Dead White Moonlight of the Canary - Chapter 2
Today was Song Shi’an’s birthday, and her best friend had recently bought this bar, clearing it out tonight to celebrate.
She hadn’t been out partying much lately. Recently, she’d gotten into fencing and had hired a few professional coaches to train seriously for a while.
But she’d grown bored of it again, and with her birthday approaching, her friend Zhu Yuandong suggested celebrating at the newly acquired bar.
Song Shi’an had been abstaining from alcohol lately, but Zhu Yuandong’s invitation piqued her interest.
Upon arriving at the bar, she lazily scanned the surroundings—the decor wasn’t particularly impressive.
However, her gaze lingered for a moment when it landed on Yan Sheng’s face. Who knew there’d be such an adorable server here?
An itch to tease her rose in Song Shi’an’s heart.
“Miss Song, let me show you the way. Miss Zhu and the others are waiting for you upstairs,” Yan Sheng’s supervisor said, eyes lighting up at Song Shi’an’s arrival as she stepped forward to guide her.
From her corner, Yan Sheng watched as Song Shi’an followed the supervisor upstairs.
When Song Shi’an had looked at her earlier, Yan Sheng hadn’t dared to turn her head, afraid of meeting her gaze.
Little Yan Sheng, are you scared of her? Shijiu sat on Yan Sheng’s shoulder, somehow having procured a small glass and even managed to sneak a drink from the bar.
It lounged comfortably on her shoulder, sipping leisurely.
[Huh? Why would I be scared of her? We don’t even know each other.] Yan Sheng replied innocently.
[Ah, don’t worry. She’s just a toxic supporting character who likes Cheng Yunhang. She might try to frame you later, but she won’t succeed.]
Yeah. Yan Sheng responded indifferently, saying nothing more.
Once upstairs, Song Shi’an was immediately swarmed by her rowdy friends, quickly forgetting about the server she’d noticed earlier.
The private room upstairs had a massive floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the central stage of the bar.
Song Shi’an took the best seat for viewing.
Zhu Yuandong promised tonight would be unforgettable.
“First of all, I’m hungry,” Song Shi’an murmured lazily, her red lips parting slightly.
“Don’t rush. The food’s coming soon—I hired a top chef today,” Zhu Yuandong said, sitting beside her and pouring a drink.
“Even though it’s your birthday, you’re late, so old rules apply—three penalty drinks.” Lately, Song Shi’an had been elusive, almost as if she’d turned over a new leaf.
This had led to Zhu Yuandong being constantly scolded by her mother for being aimless and irresponsible, unlike her unrelated older sister.
Now that Song Shi’an was finally willing to drink again, Zhu Yuandong wasn’t about to let her off easy.
Song Shi’an shot her a disdainful look. “Can’t take your frustrations out on your sister, so you’re bothering me instead?”
“Are you drinking or not? Stop dragging your feet.”
Though she acted annoyed, Song Shi’an still reached for the glass on the table.
She downed all three drinks in one go.
As she drank, many eyes lingered on her.
There was no denying it—Song Shi’an was breathtakingly beautiful, radiant like a rose.
But she was an alpha, so these people only dared to look—after all, the Song family wasn’t to be trifled with, and Song Shi’an had a temper too.
Beautiful she might be, but she was only for admiring from afar.
After finishing her drink, Song Shi’an gripped her glass and eyed the crowd. “Just sitting around drinking?”
“Of course not.”
No sooner had Zhu Yuandong spoken than food was brought out.
Song Shi’an’s gaze immediately landed on the woman carrying the tray. Even in the simple server’s uniform, she stood out from the rest.
The girl carefully placed the exquisitely arranged platter beside Zhu Yuandong, then left without lingering, following the other servers.
Song Shi’an averted her eyes, focusing on the steak in front of her.
She started eating without waiting for the others.
By the time she was nearly done, the atmosphere had livened up.
The performances Zhu Yuandong had arranged began.
This spot offered the best view—the performers were the hottest AO idol group of the past two years.
Their skills were solid, and their stage presence impressive.
Song Shi’an, who hadn’t been out partying in a while, was willing to watch.
The energy in the room peaked—these people were all seasoned partiers.
Many who knew Song Shi’an well began pulling her into drinking games.
After their performance, the two idol groups joined them as drinking companions.
Zhu Yuandong nudged a sweet-looking girl toward Song Shi’an.
Song Shi’an gave her a cursory glance but didn’t refuse—she was long accustomed to this.
Besides, with all the other alphas doing the same, refusing would only invite whispers about her inadequacy.
The young miss Song, who had never been called inadequate in her life, wouldn’t tolerate such talk.
Still, she couldn’t help thinking the server she’d glimpsed earlier suited her tastes better.
But servers weren’t the same as these paid entertainers. Wild as she was, Song Shi’an had enough class not to force someone into drinking companionship.
After the performances, someone suggested playing card games with penalties—either drinking or dares.
The same tired routine, but even the bored Miss Song couldn’t think of anything more exciting.
She half-heartedly joined in.
Song Shi’an usually had decent luck at these games. Over an hour passed without her being targeted.
Another round ended with her unscathed—she’d barely touched her drink.
A male alpha across from her grew visibly displeased, scoffing at the winner’s proposed dare.
“Is this all you’ve got? How boring. If you ask me, losers should strip down and serve as fruit platters.”
Smoking lazily, he eyed the losing male omega with a smirk.
Silence fell over the room.
This was his first time at a gathering attended by Song Shi’an and Zhu Yuandong.
Both the Zhu and Song families were powerhouses in Cangnan City—nationally renowned, in fact.
The Song family boasted a century of legacy, dominating countless industries. Their heirs were meticulously selected—no weaklings or incompetents allowed.
Though not as established as the Songs, the Zhu family had risen rapidly in recent decades, now standing as a tech giant.
Everyone present had carefully studied the preferences of these two women, catering to their every whim with utmost caution.
Song Shi’an toyed with her cigarette holder, a coldly amused smile playing on her strikingly beautiful face.
How interesting—this was clearly a new face. She wondered which clueless fool had brought him here.
“Shi’an jie…” No one in the room moved. After a long silence, only one seemingly meek man spoke up.
“Shi’an jie, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have brought him here, nor failed to stop his nonsense.”
Song Shi’an looked at him with feigned innocence: “Did I say anything? Is he your new catch?”
The man was an omega who enjoyed collecting various alphas to satisfy himself.
Of course, most omegas wouldn’t dare be so bold. But coming from a privileged family as the only heir, he’d grown accustomed to reckless behavior.
“No, no! He’s from the Cheng family.”
Zhu Yuandong lit a cigarette and lazily inquired: “The Chengs of Hongxu Group?”
“Y-yes.”
Zhu Yuandong gave the man a once-over before scoffing: “Cheng Yuncheng? Doesn’t look like him. I’ve met Cheng Yunchang several times—isn’t she a woman?”
“And I’ve never heard of any other Cheng heirs?”
The man seemed provoked by Zhu Yuandong’s dismissive tone.
“I’m Cheng Yuncheng’s cousin.”
“Oh, the son of the Cheng family’s disfavored eldest son.” Zhu Yuandong clicked her tongue.
“You’re fond of body sushi?” she asked languidly.
The man sized her up: “And who might you be?”
Zhu Yuandong couldn’t help but laugh, then turned to the omega beside him: “You didn’t tell him whose territory this is today?”
“I-I did.”
“Whatever, this is boring.” Zhu Yuandong waved a hand: “Take Young Master Cheng to experience his favorite dish—just a taste will do. I’ve no interest in watching.”
Both Song Shi’an and Zhu Yuandong detested such vulgar indulgences. That someone would dare mention it here showed remarkable audacity.
Bodyguards immediately dragged away the Cheng heir.
Song Shi’an shuffled her cards: “I’m done playing. This is tiresome.”
As she spoke, her brow furrowed imperceptibly.
Her scent gland burned faintly, as if barely contained.
Her heat period was approaching, but not due yet.
Moreover, knowing they’d be drinking tonight, she’d specifically applied suppressant patches before leaving—this shouldn’t be happening.
Pursing her lips, she told Zhu Yuandong: “I need the restroom.”
Zhu Yuandong simply nodded: “Very well. Have someone show you the way.”
She referred to her private bathroom, installed precisely to avoid queues during crowded events.
Upon exiting, Song Shi’an spotted Yan Sheng waiting outside. She beckoned the girl to lead the way.
Yan Sheng had been skimming the original novel’s plot when suddenly summoned.
Turning to face Song Shi’an’s dazzling beauty, she quickly averted her eyes: “This way, please.”
After accompanying Song Shi’an to the bathroom, Yan Sheng waited outside.
Inside, Song Shi’an retrieved a suppressant from her bag and drank it, then replaced her scent patch.
But after waiting for a long time, the suppressant still hadn’t taken effect. Song Shi’an, breathing in the increasingly strong scent of green tangerine pheromones in the bathroom, began to feel dizzy.
“Miss Song, are you alright?” Yan Sheng waited outside for a long time without seeing Song Shi’an emerge, growing concerned.
Hearing her question, Song Shi’an struggled to maintain some semblance of composure.
“Are you a beta?” Song Shi’an asked through the door.
With pheromones this strong, an alpha or omega would definitely notice.
“Miss Song, I’m not—I haven’t presented yet,” Yan Sheng answered honestly.
“Where is your boss’s lounge? Do you know?” Song Shi’an asked, fighting through the dizziness and rising desire.
“I do.”
“Take me there.” At that moment, Song Shi’an felt a flicker of relief that she had found this unpresented child.
Yan Sheng pushed open the door and stepped inside, catching a faint, pleasant whiff of green tangerine.
It must be Song Shi’an’s scent, but she couldn’t understand why she, unpresented, could detect it.
