Episode 13: It’s Really Helpful Having the Big-Sisterly Tatanya Around

The harvest autumn has come again this year.
Bags of wheat are being piled up in the village chief’s house’s storehouse.
Looks like the knight won’t be coming this year.
“When the knight comes, we have to be too mindful of them, y’know.”
The village chief seems to prefer when the knight doesn’t come.
In any case, it’s the village chief’s job to transport the wheat to the lord’s castle. So he’ll end up meeting the knight anyway.
“Nois!”
Clarissa comes running over. She’s waving her hand.
Lately, it seems she’s been growing out her reddish-brown hair. It’s fluttering in the wind.
“Hey, Clarissa. You’re cute again today.”
“Ehehehe. Am I really cute?”
“Yeah, you’re cute.”
The Hikaru Genji plan is in effect.
“That yellow one-piece looks good on you too.”
“My mom made it for me.”
“Heh, it looks nice.”
I’m still wearing the clothes that were torn to shreds by a wolf and patched up by Nyumarin-neesan.
Villagers usually wear patched-up clothes too. But I’m the only one with clothes patched up this much.
In my case, even if I got new clothes made, they’d just get all torn up again—so says Mom. That’s why I still wear these clothes.
Since they’re this full of patches, I’ll start declaring it as a new fashion design. Seriously.
The two of us walk around the village and go on a date.
Most villagers we run into talk to us. But I don’t think they need to say “Is it a date?” every time.
We skillfully ignore such sexual harassment and make it to the riverside.
“How about using up all your magic before bed?”
“Yeah. It was really hard at first. But now it just makes me feel a little sick. And I can use magic over and over again now!”
It’s been half a year since then—it’s around the time for the effects to show dramatically.
Clarissa talked with sparkling eyes.
“That’s good to hear. But you mustn’t tell anyone, okay?”
“Yeah, I know.”
This proves that the increase in magic power isn’t a unique trait only for me, a reincarnated person.
Up until now, the reason this method hasn’t become widespread is probably because having your magic run out makes you feel very sick.
At first, you feel so fatigued and sick that you can’t even move. So no one would think of using up even more magic than that.
Those born with high magic power are mostly nobles or knights.
It’s thought to be because, like thoroughbred horses, they marry within bloodlines that have high magic power.
Maybe the people who became the ancestors of nobles increased their magic power while fainting from exhaustion.
And perhaps it wasn’t even for the sake of increasing magic power—they might’ve just been forced into situations where they had to keep using magic.
Anyway, the method of increasing magic power is not common nowadays. Best to keep it hidden.
I spent the rest of the day playing like a kid with Clarissa, then went home.
After dinner and a short break, I did 30 push-ups, 30 sit-ups, 30 squats, and 30 pull-ups in three sets. I then wiped off the sweat, and jumped into the straw bed.
Not to sleep, but to unleash my magic power at full capacity from here.
Lately, I’ve been able to maintain full output for more than 600 seconds.
I can’t help but grin at the rapidly increasing magic power.
Because of that, it’s hard to keep count. But that’s no big deal.

As the season approaches when winter is coming, I headed out for the last hunt of the year.
The number of kids coming along has recently grown to ten.
The members are:
Rogga (10), second son of a farming family.
Egl (11), third son of a farming family.
Hottan (8), third son of a farming family.
Tatanya (12), third daughter of a farming family.
Gurda (10), sixth son of the same family and Tatanya’s little brother.
Raidan (10), second son of a farming family.
Barnan (8), third son of a farming family.
Kumama (7), third son and Raidan’s little brother.
Lendl (7), fourth son of Roger the carpenter.
Ritt (7), fourth son of merchant Altan and Clarissa’s older brother.
That makes ten in total.
“Today, we’ll enter the northeastern mountain. That place has a lot of big game. But that means it also has a lot of bears. If we run into a bear, don’t make noise. Step back while looking it in the eye. Got it?”
“““Yes!”””
This village is surrounded by forests and mountains. It’s a place rich in nature.
Different mountains have different territories for animals.
The northeastern mountain we’re entering today has lots of big animals. But it’s also a place with lots of dangerous bears and wolves.
These kids obediently listen to what I say, even though I’m younger than them.
Maybe it’s because I can hunt wolves and bears on my own—they probably respect me for that.
We climb the gentle slope of the northeastern mountain. And after about thirty minutes, I sense a beast using magic detection.
I signal the kids to wait here.
Tatanya’s the only girl who joined the team recently. She stops everyone without making a sound.
She’s big for a girl and uses the same body enhancement magic as me.
She was like a ringleader among the village kids from the start. So she leads them well.
Apparently, she wasn’t a member from the beginning because her parents didn’t allow it since she’s a girl.
Still, she persistently said she wanted to join the hunting team. And her parents gave in. Seems like they just gave up.
The creature I found was a serow.
It’s one size bigger than a deer, and its fur is excellent for winter clothing.
The tastiest meats are from wild rabbits, wild birds, boars, and bears.
The most sellable furs are from serows, boars, deer, bears, and wild rabbits.
Also, wild bird feathers are used for arrow fletching. And bear paws and livers become medicine.
There are also wild horses and goats. But those are captured alive and domesticated instead of hunted.
We have three goats at our place.
Goats provide milk and enrich our meals.
I aim from the shade of a tree with a crossbow.
When I pull the trigger, there’s a light *Twang* sound. And the arrow shot by the string instantly pierces the serow.
“Tch, missed the vital spot.”
Right before the arrow hit, the serow moved. The arrow was aimed at the neck. But it hit its shoulder instead.
I don’t like causing prolonged suffering.
I draw the Divine Blade Kern, quickly close the distance, and slice its neck off.
I blow the whistle to call the kids over.
“Tatanya, I’m leaving the rest to you.”
“Got it.”
Like I said earlier, serow fur is excellent for winter wear and sells well.
Even more so if the fur has few damages.
The big-sisterly Tatanya understands that well and gives proper instructions to the kids.
She does it all without me having to say anything, which is a huge help.
