I Was a Royal Palace Knight, But I Turned Out to Be an Omega, So I Had to Resign (BL) - Chapter 1
“I’m resigning from the Knights.”
My voice echoed through the quiet office.
Leonhart’s office was as impeccably organized as he was. Piles of documents stacked neatly with their corners aligned, ink bottles color-coded by category, and quills arranged in perfect rows. The morning sunlight streaming through the windows reflected off the polished floor, making the entire room feel like a testament to his authority.
And at the center of it all was its owner: the Third Prince, Leonhart Wilhelm Elkrest. With his perfectly groomed golden hair, clear blue eyes, and sharp, well-proportioned features, he exuded an air of nobility and dignity. Even while sitting at his desk, the strength of his well-trained, soldierly physique was evident, a reminder that he wasn’t just a prince but also a commander.
This flawless man paused for a moment.
“…What?”
It was a rare reaction from someone as composed as him. My words must have caught him off guard. But he quickly recovered, setting his pen down and meeting my gaze. His expression gave away nothing—classic Leonhart.
“I’m resigning from the Knights. I’m also leaving the palace. I’ve already written my formal resignation. All that’s left is for you to sign it.”
“Wait, Cyril. What are you saying all of a sudden? Explain yourself.”
I shrugged lightly. Explaining things wasn’t my favorite task, but I owed him that much. After all, he had employed me as his personal guard. It was only right to give him a proper explanation.
“The truth is… I’ve become an Omega.”
For just a fraction of a second, Leonhart’s blue eyes widened. But they quickly returned to their usual calm. As expected of the prince known for his logic and composure, he didn’t let emotions show. My being an Omega was probably a trivial issue for someone like him.
“Was it because of the battle at the eastern border?”
“Exactly. You remember when I took that poisoned arrow for you?”
I smirked, recalling the memory. For me, it was a proud moment. Risking my life to protect my liege? That’s what being a knight was all about.
“Of course, I remember.”
There was something dark in Leonhart’s voice, or so it seemed. Maybe I imagined it.
“That poison gave me a fever, and I was bedridden for days. When the fever broke, my secondary gender somehow shifted from Beta to Omega. The doctors said it’s an extremely rare case, practically unheard of.”
I chuckled as I spoke, trying to keep it light. But deep down, bitterness swirled within me. Still, there was no point in showing it, especially not in front of Leonhart. My pride wouldn’t allow it.
“I see…”
Leonhart nodded thoughtfully, his expression serious. He unconsciously adjusted the documents on his desk as though lost in deep thought.
“Well, rules are rules,” I said, trying to sound cheerful.
“Omegas aren’t allowed in the Knights. Plus, I can’t inherit my family’s title anymore. My younger brother, Arthur, will have to take over. He’s a responsible guy, so I’m sure he’ll do fine.”
Leonhart didn’t say a word. He just looked at me, his gaze unusually heavy. It was unsettling. Normally, this was the part where he’d lecture me about following protocol or reporting things sooner.
“…What do you plan to do now?”
The unexpected question caught me off guard. Was he really that interested in my future? Usually, he just sighed at my antics.
“Well, I guess I’ll end up marrying into some family,” I replied casually.
“That’s the typical fate for an Omega noble, right? I’d prefer somewhere close to the capital, but I’m not in a position to be picky. Not many people would want a guy like me as their spouse.”
I tried to joke, but Leonhart’s expression grew even stiffer. Did I say something wrong? No, that couldn’t be it. He wouldn’t care that much about my situation.
Silence fell between us. Leonhart didn’t speak, and I gave him a small bow.
“Well then, I’ll be going. Thank you for everything.”
I turned on my heel and headed for the door. I could feel Leonhart’s gaze on my back, as if he wanted to say something. But no words came.
Sighing softly, I opened the door. This was the end of my life at the palace. A new chapter awaited me. Ignoring the loneliness creeping in, I put on my usual bright smile.
“Time to pack up,” I muttered before leaving Leonhart’s office behind.
