I Was a Royal Palace Knight, But I Turned Out to Be an Omega, So I Had to Resign (BL) - Chapter 12
“This way.”
Prince Leon led me to a part of the palace called the East Wing. I was nervous as I walked, and he kept glancing at my face from time to time.
To be honest, I felt a bit uneasy. Suddenly being taken to see a doctor—who was apparently a researcher of magic essence? That sounded intense.
“What kind of person is this researcher?” I asked.
“You’ll find out soon enough,” Leon replied in his usual blunt way. Hmm, I wished he’d give me a little more info.
As we went deeper into the palace, there were fewer people around. I never knew this place existed. Even when I was a knight, I never went this far inside.
“We’re here,” Leon said, stopping in front of an old wooden door. Unlike the other palace doors, this one was plain and simple—almost out of place.
“I’m coming in,” Leon said, opening the door without knocking. Was that okay?
When I saw what was behind the door, I gasped.
“Wow…”
It was pure chaos. Books piled from floor to ceiling. The walls covered with papers full of diagrams and symbols. Several desks scattered randomly, cluttered with strange bottles and tools.
This was the one spot in the entire palace that was completely disorganized.
“I told him to clean this up so many times…” Leon muttered, sounding resigned.
At the back of the room, someone was working surrounded by a mountain of books. His long reddish hair was tied up messily. Despite the mess, he seemed to fit perfectly in this chaotic scene.
“Ah, but with this magic essence concentration, it won’t stay stable… no, it should be possible in theory, but… hmm…”
He muttered to himself while flipping through multiple books, taking notes and erasing them quickly. He was so focused, he didn’t even notice us.
“Adrian,” Leon called softly. No response.
“Adrian!” a bit louder. Still no reaction.
“Adrian!!” the third time, louder yet.
Finally, the man snapped out of it and looked up, surprised.
“Huh? Someone’s here?”
When he turned around, I couldn’t help but stare.
Whoa—this guy is way too handsome.
His sharp features and clear dark green eyes were noble, like Leon’s, but gave off a warm, gentle feeling. If Leon was ice, this guy was a warm flame.
“Adrie, how long are you going to be so absorbed?”
“Leo!? When did you get here?”
The man called Adrian stood up, surprised.
“Adrie? Leo?” What’s with these nicknames? They sounded like childhood friends.
Leon and Adrian were talking like old pals. I’d never seen Leon so friendly with anyone.
“I knocked, but no answer, so I came in. Same old you,” Leon said in a casual tone.
“Sorry, sorry. I found some interesting material, so…” Adrian scratched his head and smiled apologetically. That gesture was oddly charming, and I found myself watching him without realizing.
“Hey, who’s this?” Adrian’s eyes sparkled with curiosity as he looked at me.
“Let me introduce you. This is Cyril Glantz, my…”
“Fiancé,” I quickly answered. Even if it was just for show, I was here in that role.
“Wait, Leon’s fiancé!?” Adrian’s eyes went wide. He walked around the desk and came close, peering at my face. Way too close!
“Leon’s engaged!? I never thought he’d get engaged!” Adrian grinned at Leon like an older brother seeing his little brother bring home his first love.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Cyril Glantz,” I said politely. I learned manners from Edgar.
“I’m Adrian Waldheim. Nice to meet you, Cyril!” Adrian smiled brightly and offered his hand. When I shook it, it was pleasantly warm.
“Finally, Leo brought someone here! And he’s a guy! And such a nice guy!”
“Shut up. I asked him to examine you,” Leon said gruffly, but I thought I saw a faint blush on his cheeks.
“Wait, you want a checkup even though you’re engaged?”
“Let me formally introduce him,” Leon cleared his throat.
“This is Adrian Waldheim, my cousin. He specializes in magic essence and second gender research.”
“Cousin…?”
I looked back and forth between them. They did look alike, though their personalities seemed completely different.
“So he’s a relative of Prince Leon,” I said.
“Yes, but while we’re related by bl00d, our personalities don’t match,” Adrian said with a cheerful laugh.
“So, about this checkup…”
“Cyril has some special circumstances. He used to be a Beta but became an Omega after an incident.” Leon explained.
Adrian’s expression changed from curious to sharply professional.
“From Beta to Omega?”
“Yes, and he currently uses suppressants regularly.”
“Regularly!?” Adrian sounded shocked.
“I want you to examine him closely and find the right treatment.” Leon’s face was serious.
“I see. That definitely needs investigation.” Adrian examined me carefully from head to toe with the sharp eyes of a scientist.
“So, Cyril, how did you and Leo meet?” he suddenly asked, catching me off guard.
“I was once Prince Leon’s personal guard.”
“Really? You were a knight?” Adrian seemed surprised.
“Yes, but I resigned because I became an Omega.”
“I see, so that’s why you’re with Leo… but an engagement…”
Leon cut him off.
“Don’t pry. His health is the priority right now.”
“Sorry, sorry,” Adrian laughed and started walking toward a cluttered bed.
“Let’s start the checkup. Come over here.” Adrian gestured toward what looked like a bed covered in piles of stuff.
“Wait a sec!” Adrian hurriedly brushed off the books, bottles, and strange metal pieces from the bed, making a loud clatter on the floor.
“Now, sit here.”
I nervously sat on the bed.
“First, take off your clothes. I’ll do a physical exam.”
“Take off my clothes?”
“Just the top. I want to check the flow of magic essence.”
Adrian went to get some equipment. Leon leaned against the wall with crossed arms, not leaving.
“Um…”
“Hey, Leo, you still here?” Adrian asked bluntly.
“Do you want me to leave?”
“Yes. No extra people should be in the exam room. Especially if it makes it hard for the patient.”
“But—”
“Just wait outside. I’ll call you when it’s done.”
Leon looked clearly unhappy but reluctantly nodded and left. His back looked oddly lonely, and I almost laughed.
