I Was a Royal Palace Knight, But I Turned Out to Be an Omega, So I Had to Resign (BL) - Chapter 28
The medical room inside the royal palace was larger than I had imagined, probably because it was reserved exclusively for the royal family. The floor was polished like a mirror, and the shelves around the room were packed with many instruments and medicines. It was a far cry from the messy infirmary at the barracks where I had been treated a few times during my days as a knight.
I hesitated, wondering if I really belonged here, but I stepped inside anyway. There were already a few people in the room: Crown Prince Friedrich, Second Prince Kyle, and Prince Leon. They stood apart from each other along the walls of the treatment room.
In one corner stood an older man with white hair — probably the royal family’s personal doctor — preparing some medical instruments. Next to him was a familiar face: Adrian. When he spotted me, he gave me a small wave.
Seeing Adrian after so long eased my tension a little.
Last night, during my talk with Prince Leon, he explained the palace rules to me. One rule was that before leaving the palace, I had to undergo a certain “test.”
This test was to check if I was pregnant — that is, carrying a child from the royal family — in case the engagement to a royal was broken off for any reason.
The goal was to prevent unofficial royal children from stirring up unnecessary struggles for the throne. I understood the reason, but I wasn’t very comfortable with it. Because of the nature of this test, witnesses had to be present. That’s why, besides Prince Leon, Crown Prince Friedrich and Prince Kyle were called to be here.
Looking around, I saw Prince Leon standing quietly in a corner, arms crossed, staring at me. His expression was unreadable.
Last night, Leon said he planned to use this test as an opportunity to do something to Prince Kyle, but he didn’t tell me what exactly.
Trying to calm my nerves, I took a deep breath. Adrian, standing by the royal doctor, came over to me.
“Cyril, long time no see. …Nervous?”
He spoke quietly to me.
“Well, a bit,” I replied with a forced smile. It was natural to be nervous—this was a deeply personal pregnancy test, and here I was in front of many people.
“This test has to be fair, so people from different sides are here. I wish I could do it myself, but since I’m Leon’s close ally, they said it wouldn’t be impartial. That’s why the royal doctor was called too. It might feel uncomfortable, but hang in there.”
I nodded. Even if the doctor would do the test, having Adrian nearby made me feel much better.
He led me to the examination chair and told me to take off my clothes. I expected it, but still, the thought of being examined in front of everyone was humiliating. Reluctantly, I took off my clothes.
When Adrian took my clothes, I quietly asked something that had been on my mind.
“…Adrian, do you know what Leon plans to do?”
Adrian chuckled and put a finger to his lips.
“That’s a secret. Just wait and see.”
He winked. Damn, he definitely knew something. I sighed silently.
“Now, we will begin the pregnancy test,” the royal doctor announced solemnly. It felt almost like a ceremony.
I felt like I was on display. Crown Prince Friedrich looked worried, but Prince Kyle’s eyes showed clear curiosity mixed with disdain.
“First, I will ask some questions,” the doctor said calmly.
“Have you ever been involved in any act that could have led to pregnancy with Prince Leonhart?”
The room became tense. I had to answer this question in front of the princes. I felt heat rising to my ears, but I couldn’t lie here.
“…Yes. During the inspection at the eastern fortress.”
I looked down at the floor and answered quietly.
“Oh?”
Prince Kyle, standing by the wall, spoke up.
“At the eastern fortress? How could you have time for such things on duty? It seems the border defense was less important to you than playing with your fiancé. No wonder the fortress was lost.”
Anger flared inside me. That’s not true! But no matter how much I wanted to argue, nothing would change. I bit my lip and stayed silent.
“I will begin the physical exam now.”
The doctor’s cold hands touched my stomach. His touch wasn’t gentle. He pressed firmly just below my navel, then pressed an unfamiliar instrument against my belly. The tool’s coldness made me shiver.
“This is my first time examining an Omega male. The structure is different from a female, so this is tricky.”
The doctor said with disgust as he repeatedly pressed my belly. The discomfort and pain made me feel sick.
“Could you be a bit more gentle?” I asked.
“Be quiet. This is necessary for an accurate diagnosis,” he snapped, showing no sympathy. Was this man prejudiced against Omegas?
“Wait, measuring the flow of magic with instruments should be enough for pregnancy detection,” Adrian intervened, grabbing the doctor’s hand. The doctor stopped and glared at Adrian with irritation.
“That’s true, but a physical exam is also important. Especially for an Omega male like him, usual methods may not be enough,” the doctor defended himself.
While he was explaining, Prince Kyle stepped forward.
“If this doctor can’t make a conclusion, why not take a definite approach? To prove he’s not pregnant, why not give him a miscarriage drug?”
I couldn’t believe my ears. What was he saying?
“The royal family has a special ancient drug to get rid of people like you who try to trick princes and have children,” Kyle continued arrogantly. A cruel pleasure showed in his slight smirk.
“That’s right,” the doctor quickly agreed.
“This drug is powerful and could harm not only the fetus but also the mother’s body. But it’s the only sure way to prove there’s no pregnancy.”
I was speechless. This was no longer a test. It was torture.
“Stop!” Adrian raised his voice.
“Using such a drug could cause irreversible damage to Cyril’s body!”
Kyle sneered at Adrian’s words.
“Don’t worry. If it’s found here that he’s pregnant, the engagement will be broken and he’ll have no choice but to take the drug. The result is the same, isn’t it?”
Kyle’s cruel smile deepened.
“Besides, this is punishment for causing the fortress to fall. A rightful penalty. There’s no problem with that.”
He laughed loudly, but his laughter suddenly stopped. His face changed color, and he swayed before collapsing to the floor.
“Kyle!”
The doctor cried out and rushed to him.
Kyle’s condition was clearly serious. His face was pale, cold sweat covered him, and his whole body was shaking. His breathing was rough as he lay struggling on the floor.
Then, Prince Leon, who had been quietly watching, moved slowly. He said nothing but approached Kyle with a cold, different look on his face than usual.
Leon stood before Kyle and looked down at him. Quietly, he said,
“—It seems it’s finally taking effect.”
