I Was a Royal Palace Knight, But I Turned Out to Be an Omega, So I Had to Resign (BL) - Chapter 30
Since then, days have rushed by like a storm.
After that, Prince Kyle, cornered and desperate, ordered his close aide to retrieve the antidote he had hidden in his private room. What followed happened quickly.
The antidote was indeed found in a safe in his room. But the problem was, it wasn’t the only thing hidden there. Alongside the antidote, there were numerous documents proving a secret pact with the neighboring Solderia Empire.
The contents of those documents were worse than anyone imagined.
To summarize, Prince Kyle had agreed to receive military and financial support from the neighboring country. In return, once he took the throne, he promised that under the guise of a “federal system,” he would effectively become their puppet. In other words, an outright betrayal of the country.
It also became clear that the recent incidents at the eastern fortress were part of this plan. Valen Kirshtein, the fortress commander, was apparently acting as a spy under Prince Kyle’s orders.
And that wasn’t all. The attack at the eastern fortress a year ago — the one where I was hit by a poison arrow — was also part of Kyle’s assassination plot, planned together with the neighboring country. The real target was Prince Leon, and I was just a decoy.
In the end, Prince Kyle was arrested as a traitor and is now locked away in the palace dungeon. Of course, a thorough investigation into the eastern fortress incident is now underway.
Prince Leon, who had been blamed for the fortress’s fall, was completely cleared of all charges. His suspension was lifted immediately, and his military command was returned.
And as for me—
“Hah!”
I let out a big breath and swung my axe down. With a satisfying crack, the log in front of me split cleanly in two.
“All right! Next one!”
Wiping the sweat from my forehead, I moved to the next log. Right now, I was chopping wood in the yard of the Glantz family mansion.
The backyard was bathed in gentle sunlight today. The sound of rustling trees and chirping birds filled the peaceful air. Doing hard physical work like this made palace life feel like a distant dream.
I could see my mother hanging laundry beyond the garden. It was early summer — the fresh green forest and clear air made this borderland feel even more inviting. I realized once again how comforting it is to be back home, in the place where I grew up.
“Still chopping wood, big brother?”
A voice came from behind me. Turning around, I saw my younger brother, Arthur, watching with a slightly amused expression.
“Hey, Arthur.”
I waved cheerfully, then paused my work and set the axe down.
“You don’t have to do that kind of work. You’re only back temporarily, right? Soon, Prince Leonhart will come for you.”
Arthur looked worried, and I couldn’t help but smile. I appreciated his concern, but honestly, my current situation was a little complicated.
It had been three months since the palace incident. Because of Prince Kyle’s betrayal, the palace was in chaos, and although my engagement to Prince Leon was technically still on paper, officially, we had no relationship. Even though we confirmed our feelings for each other, nothing was public.
So, for now, I was staying at home “until things settled down,” passing the time like this.
“I feel bad just freeloading here, so at least let me help out around the house. Otherwise, I’ll end up like one of those sheltered noble ladies waiting for their prince all day.”
“Sheltered ladies don’t chop wood this much in the morning,” Arthur replied, making me laugh.
He was right, of course.
But honestly, I couldn’t help feeling a little uneasy inside.
Prince Leon promised he’d definitely come for me. He even sent letters often — recently, news about Kyle’s punishment and updates on the fortress investigation. Things were moving for sure.
Still, being apart from him made me anxious… Even though I knew he wasn’t the type to forget.
“By the way, Arthur, what brings you here? More sword practice?”
I asked, and Arthur lightly swung the wooden practice sword in his hand.
“Yes. If you don’t mind, I wanted you to watch me again.”
“All right, let’s go. I was just about ready for a break anyway.”
I put away the axe and picked up my own wooden sword, leaning against the wall.
Since returning home, I had been helping Arthur with his sword training. To my surprise, he’d improved a lot in these three months.
Arthur had always been small and slender, which made his sword swings a little light. But recently, something about his style had changed.
The strangest part was that when he swung his sword, it seemed like an invisible force accompanied the blade, creating a strong gust that even surprised me.
“Come at me!”
I took my stance. Arthur planted his feet firmly and swung his sword at me. His movements were smoother and more polished than before — it was clear he’d been practicing hard.
Of course, I easily blocked the strike with my sword. But—
“Ah!”
Strangely, the gust from Arthur’s sword seemed to cut my cheek. Even though my sword stopped the wooden blade, it felt like something separate had grazed me.
“Big brother! Are you okay?”
Arthur hurried over, worried. I touched my cheek and saw a little bl00d. The cut was shallow, but still — what just happened?
“I’m fine. Just a scratch. But wow, that’s amazing. You didn’t even hit me directly…”
Arthur looked troubled and hesitated to explain.
“That is…”
At that moment, a voice called out from behind us.
“Hey! You Glantz boys!”
