I Was a Royal Palace Knight, But I Turned Out to Be an Omega, So I Had to Resign (BL) - Chapter 6
Morning.
“Ugh…”
I opened my heavy eyelids and stared at the ceiling. Wait, what is this ceiling? I don’t remember our house having such gaudy decorations… Oh, right.
This is the royal palace. My new room. The ridiculously lavish room I was given as the “fiancée” of a prince.
“Damn it, I barely slept…”
I sat up in bed, rubbing my face. After my parents left last night, I couldn’t relax in this overwhelming room. The bed was so soft and luxurious it felt like I was sinking into it, which only made me restless.
Back at the knights’ barracks, we all slept on the same hard beds, packed together like sardines. My body seems to prefer that hardness—this fluffy bed feels almost hostile. How ironic.
My parents, on the other hand, were thrilled when they saw this room yesterday. Especially Mom. She gushed, “Cyril, you’re so lucky! Just look at this room—it shows how much Prince Leonhart values you!”
(Well, the truth is, this engagement is just a sham… but sure, let’s go with that.)
“Good morning, Sir Cyril.”
A knock at the door was followed by a maid entering the room. While I wasn’t surprised to see a maid, having someone attend to me first thing in the morning felt… off. At home, no one fussed over me like this.
“I’ve brought your breakfast and prepared your outfit for the day.”
The maid spoke with a perfect, practiced smile, though she avoided meeting my eyes. Her gaze always shifted just slightly away from me.
Yeah, I expected this.
From the start, I knew how people in the palace would feel about me. An Omega man as Prince Leonhart’s fiancé? There’s no way they’d accept that without some resentment. But whatever. This is all for show, so I couldn’t care less about their opinions.
“The prince has asked to see you in his chambers after breakfast.”
The maid’s words made me tilt my head.
“Already? That’s quick…”
She didn’t respond to my muttering and instead disappeared into the wardrobe. A moment later, she returned holding—
“Whoa!”
I couldn’t help but exclaim. The outfit she brought resembled my old knight’s uniform, only fancier. The fabric was clearly high-quality, with understated yet intricate embroidery. It looked like a perfect blend of practicality and nobility.
“Did the prince choose this?”
“Yes, it was prepared under his direct orders.”
It looked comfortable, too. Leave it to Prince Leonhart to know I’d feel more at ease in something similar to my knight’s uniform. It warmed my heart a little.
After breakfast, I changed into the new outfit and stood in front of the mirror.
“Not bad at all.”
The style suited me well. It retained the functionality of a knight’s uniform but added a touch of elegance. Plus, it was pants instead of one of those suffocating formal suits. I’d take this any day.
“This way, please.”
Another attendant appeared to escort me to Prince Leonhart’s chambers.
As we walked through the halls, I could feel the stares. Nobles and servants alike cast fleeting glances in my direction.
“That’s the Omega man everyone’s talking about.”
“The prince’s fiancée? What a joke…”
“Didn’t he get kicked out of the knights?”
The whispers were faint but clear enough to hear. Predictable. I just shrugged it off.
This was expected. Ever since I presented as an Omega, I knew this kind of attention was unavoidable—especially now as the prince’s so-called fiancé.
I told myself, Don’t let it bother you. I’m still me, no matter what.
“We’ve arrived.”
The attendant knocked on the door, which opened to reveal the prince’s chambers.
Suddenly, my heart started racing.
Prince Leonhart’s room was just as organized as his office. Books lined up by size, documents neatly stacked, and even the ink pens sorted by color. Morning sunlight poured in through the windows, filling the room with a warm glow.
The atmosphere… felt calming.
I let out a small sigh of relief. This place had his scent—a familiar scent from the time we’d spent together when I was still a knight. It was comforting, nostalgic.
“Come in.”
His voice called from beyond the door. I took a deep breath and stepped inside.
“Good morning, Your Highness.”
Prince Leonhart was seated at his desk, writing something. He set down his quill and looked up at me.
“Cyril. Did you sleep well?”
His unexpected question caught me off guard.
“To be honest, not really… The room’s a bit too big and fancy for me.”
The words slipped out before I could stop them. Prince Leonhart gave a small nod.
“I see. My apologies. I should have been more considerate.”
“No, no, it’s fine! I’m the one who should apologize for complaining about such a luxurious room.”
I hastily waved my hands, trying to backtrack. He just gestured dismissively.
“No need to hold back. Our relationship is no longer that of a superior and subordinate. We’re… equals now.”
Equals? A prince and a lowly Omega noble like me? That’s laughable. But I didn’t argue.
“So, what do you need from me today?”
“It’s about two weeks from now.”
He stood and walked to the window, his posture as straight as always.
“There’s going to be a grand party at the palace. Nobles and foreign dignitaries will attend.”
“Oh, so I’ll be on security duty? Leave it to me!”
I perked up. Finally, something knight-like to do! But…
“No.”
Prince Leonhart turned to face me, his expression serious.
“You’ll be there as my fiancé. We’ll formally announce it to everyone.”
“Wait, what?”
I froze. As his fiancé? Publicly? In front of all those people?
“Cyril, tell me—how much do you know about court etiquette and noble society?”
The sudden question made me tilt my head.
“Uh… Your Highness, do you really think I know anything about that?”
His brows furrowed in mild frustration.
“Aren’t you a noble? Didn’t your parents teach you?”
“Well…”
I scratched the back of my head awkwardly.
“My mom tried at first, but I was so hopeless at it that she eventually gave up and said, ‘Forget it! I’ll just pin my hopes on Arthur!’”
Prince Leonhart sighed deeply.
He rang a bell, and moments later, there was a knock at the door. An older man entered, his posture straight and his expression strict.
“You called for me, Your Highness?”
The man was Prince Leonhart’s steward, Edgar Heine—a former knight with a military air about him.
“Cyril, this is Edgar. He will be in charge of your education from now on.”
“Uh… Nice to meet you, I guess?”
Edgar barely acknowledged my greeting, his disapproval evident in his piercing gaze.
“Edgar will teach you everything you need to know—court etiquette, noble politics, and how to behave as my fiancé. Treat his instructions as if they were my own.”
Prince Leonhart returned to his desk.
“Unfortunately, I have official duties to attend to. Edgar will fill you in on the details.”
With that, he gathered his papers and left, leaving me alone with Edgar.
“Uh… Let’s work well together?”
I offered a hesitant smile. Edgar let out a long, heavy sigh.
“Sir Cyril, the tasks ahead are monumental. You must master court manners, noble lineage, political diplomacy, and most importantly—how to carry yourself as the prince’s fiancé.”
His tone was cold, dripping with dissatisfaction.
“Frankly, I find it incomprehensible that someone like you would be chosen as the prince’s partner. But His Highness’s orders are absolute.”
I forced a weak chuckle. Wow, talk about a warm welcome.
“To be honest, I don’t get it either. But this is all for show, right? You’re aware of that?”
For a split second, Edgar’s expression shifted.
“…Of course. Which is why your mistakes cannot tarnish His Highness’s reputation.”
He began pulling thick books from the shelves.
“Let’s start with the basics: court manners, proper conduct, and conversational etiquette…”
I felt the color drain from my face. Books? Study? Really? I was good with a sword, but academics? Not so much.
“Wait, hold on! I’m a knight—”
“You are no longer a knight. You are the prince’s fiancé.”
Edgar’s stern words left me speechless.
And so, my uphill battle in the world of noble society began.
