I Was a Royal Palace Knight, But I Turned Out to Be an Omega, So I Had to Resign (BL) - Chapter 8
“I really can’t get used to places like this…”
I stood quietly in the corner of the grand hall, muttering to myself.
The birthday party for Princess Lydia, the daughter of the First Prince, was being held in the palace’s grand hall, lined with thick stone pillars. From the ceiling hung a large iron ring with many candles lit, their warm light softly filling the room.
The high nobles gathered in their formal clothes, holding glasses of wine and chatting. To me, it all felt like a completely different world. Their dresses and suits were so flashy, it seemed like they were made just to show off. They looked uncomfortable to move in—definitely not my style.
“Damn it, leaving me alone in a place like this… Leon, seriously, cut me some slack…”
The party had just started, and Leon had said this before disappearing:
“I’m going to have a quick political talk. I’ll be back soon.”
But it had been over an hour, and he still hadn’t returned. Damn it.
Looking around the room, a few knights were on guard duty. Their armor was different from usual—decorated for ceremony. But their posture was relaxed, and some even leaned against the wall, looking bored. Their eyes often drifted toward the sparkling party rather than focusing on security. They felt more like decoration than actual guards.
“Ugh, those guys call themselves knights…”
I watched them with a bitter feeling. Usually, guards at important events like this are chosen from the upper nobility. They lack proper training and battle experience but got the position because of their family status. I used to think a boring standing job like that was beneath me, but now… having lost my position as a knight, even that spot looks a little enviable.
“Are you Cyril Glantz?”
Suddenly, a voice called from behind me. I turned and saw a middle-aged nobleman standing there.
“Baron Muller! Long time no see.”
I immediately recognized him and bowed politely. We had met last year during the inspection of the northern border.
“You remember me? We met briefly during the northern border inspection.”
“Yes, thank you for your help back then.”
I smiled back. I’m not great with memorization, but I’m good at remembering faces and names of people I’ve actually met. Baron Muller was one of the few nobles who treated the knights kindly during that inspection.
“It’s unexpected to meet here, in a place like this. It’s rare for a local noble like you to be invited to a royal court party…”
His words made me hesitate. Normally, a lower-ranking noble like me wouldn’t be invited to the birthday party of the First Prince’s daughter. But now, I was the fiancé of Prince Leon. Still, should I reveal that here? Or wait for Leon to officially introduce me…?
“Well… actually…”
I was unsure how to answer when a cold voice suddenly came from behind.
“So the rumors were true. A local country knight showing up here.”
Turning around, I saw Second Prince Kyle Elkrest standing there.
Blond hair, sharp blue eyes, and handsome features—similar to Leon but with a cold glare and an arrogant smirk that gave off a completely different impression. His perfectly styled clothes and the way he always looked down on others made people keep their distance.
“Prince Kyle…”
I bowed deeply, thinking, Here comes trouble again…
“Hmph, you have a strange smell about you.”
Prince Kyle stepped closer and said with clear contempt in his eyes.
“A lowly Omega sneaking into a royal formal party. The security must be weak.”
He sneered, and I could feel nobles nearby watching us with interest.
“No, I…”
I tried to speak, but Kyle cut me off.
“I’ve heard you’re a stray dog my brother picked up on a whim.”
That made me clench my fist. But if I acted defiant now, it would only make things worse for Leon. I held back.
“If you want to be accepted as a royal fiancé, first fix that crude way of speaking. Speaking like that… ah, I see. The Glantz family rules some backwater land, right? Probably living like farmers.”
I took a deep breath and forced myself to stay calm. I could tolerate insults aimed at me, but hearing my parents’ name dragged through the mud was different.
“My family has produced knights for generations. We are not farmers.”
“Knights? Don’t make me laugh. A family that can’t even control its own frontier land and sells its children to the capital has no right to talk about honor.”
Kyle’s words were like a sharp poisoned blade.
“My parents—”
Anger rose inside me. I couldn’t hold back anymore. No matter what punishment came, I would answer back—
At that moment, a familiar voice spoke from behind me.
“Kyle, brother, I think such language is inappropriate.”
Calm and dignified. Turning around, I saw Prince Leon standing there.
“Leon.”
Kyle looked at his brother with a mocking smile.
“Brother, picking up a filthy Omega as your fiancé really shows your poor taste.”
Leon’s expression stayed calm, but I could sense the tension in the air. He was holding back his anger—probably with great effort.
“Cyril is my fiancé. Insulting him is the same as insulting me.”
Leon’s voice was quiet but strong. The nobles around us murmured. I guess many of them were hearing about my engagement to Leon for the first time.
“Hmph, do as you like. But don’t forget, Leon, a royal must protect his dignity. If you associate with such dirty bl00d, your own position will be in danger.”
With that, Kyle left.
For a moment, heavy silence fell over the room. Then, people gradually turned back to their conversations, throwing curious glances at us.
“You okay?”
Leon came closer and quietly asked, his eyes unusually full of concern.
“Yeah, I’m fine. I don’t care about him.”
I answered brightly, though deep down, it still bothered me. I could brush off insults aimed at me, but hearing my parents’ name dragged down was a different matter.
Leon looked at my face and seemed to notice something, furrowing his brows worriedly.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to be so late.”
He apologized sincerely.
“That’s fine. Your duties as a prince are more important than me.”
“No, that’s not it. I—”
Leon seemed about to say something but stopped himself. After a moment of thought, he changed the subject.
“Don’t mind Brother Kyle.”
“I know. He’s always been like that.”
I shrugged lightly.
Kyle had a terrible reputation among us knights. Officially, he was known as a gentleman with political skill, but he treated his subordinates terribly. Especially Omegas, whom he openly discriminated against. He was the typical kind of person who took pride in being an Alpha.
I had heard rumors from other knights: “He yells a lot,” “He sometimes draws his sword and attacks knights when he’s unhappy.”
“I’d rather fight enemies with a sword than deal with him.”
I joked, and Leon gave a faint smile.
“That’s true.”
He put a light hand on my shoulder. That warmth strangely calmed me down a bit.
“I want to introduce you to the First Prince and today’s birthday girl. Is that okay?”
“Huh?”
I was surprised.
“You mean to Prince Friedrich and Princess Lydia?”
“Yes. I want to formally introduce you as my fiancé.”
“No way… Meeting the Second Prince and now the First Prince in one night…”
It felt unreal. For a lower noble like me, meeting two princes in one night was unthinkable.
“I’m not ready for this…”
Leon showed a gentle smile.
“Don’t worry. Prince Friedrich is the most understanding of my brothers. And Princess Lydia is a sweet girl.”
He gave me a gentle push on the back.
“Let’s go.”
