I Was Just a Scumbag Extra, But She Loved Me Anyway [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 12
Su Chenli kept her head turned away, too embarrassed to even glance at Jiang Youning.
She hadn’t meant to kiss her. It had taken her completely by surprise. Though she liked Jiang Youning a lot, she’d never intended to cross any lines. After all, one of them was a mission agent playing the role of a scummy Alpha, and the other was a character living in a constructed small world…
It just didn’t seem like anything could ever really happen between them.
Silently, she raised both windows again and leaned even closer toward her side of the car, not daring to turn around.
“System, system,” Su Chenli called out internally.
But the system remained silent. During that near-death experience just now—when it usually would’ve freaked out dramatically—it had been completely quiet. Like it had gone offline.
[…Host, you’re still alive?!] The voice finally returned after a long silence, sounding utterly shocked.
Su Chenli blinked. “…What kind of reaction is that?”
[Sorry, sorry! That situation was so intense—I was already preparing to retrieve your consciousness!]
Su Chenli’s ears perked up. She caught something important in that reply. “Wait—retrieve consciousness? So if the mission fails, I won’t actually die?”
[HOST!!!] the system shrieked in panic. [Do NOT even think about trying anything reckless like that! If I forcibly extract your consciousness from the small world, you’ll lose points! Losing a few and needing to do more missions is one thing—but if it gets serious, you might never return to your original world!!]
Su Chenli: “…Wow, so that’s an actual rule? Good to know. But that’s not what I meant. I was just asking—what’s the current stability of this world? Because… the beautiful older sister’s fate has clearly changed now, hasn’t it?”
[Now that you mention it… let me check… Huh? The worldline hasn’t been disrupted?]
The system sounded genuinely surprised.
Su Chenli said, “Oh, that’s good then…”
[But that makes no sense! Why would it still be stable? Unless… unless the tragic event for the devoted supporting character wasn’t actually necessary? But then how will the rest of the plot move forward?! This is insane… totally insane…]
The system seemed to forget all about Su Chenli, muttering to itself like it was trying to double-check some calculations.
Su Chenli let out a quiet sigh and ignored the system’s rambling. While it puzzled over its data, she started to piece things together in her mind.
If the worldline was still stable, then that meant her interference hadn’t broken anything. That also meant she wasn’t the only one with freedom in unwritten parts of the script. As long as she didn’t interfere with the core plot points, making a few “minor changes” wouldn’t destabilize the world at all.
That opened up a lot of possibilities.
After all… the original story mainly revolved around the scummy Alpha and the soft, pure Omega protagonist. The other characters? They were basically fair game.
“Su Chenli?”
The beautiful older sister’s voice came from beside her—soft, but it felt distant somehow.
Su Chenli flinched, startled. She instinctively ducked before realizing what was happening.
When she turned to look, Jiang Youning was staring at her calmly. Her expression was neutral, but the moment their eyes met, she frowned slightly.
“Are you avoiding me?” Jiang Youning asked, her brow lightly furrowed.
“Uh… I, I’m not…” Su Chenli, who just moments ago had confidently ignored the system’s scolding, suddenly froze up. “Of course not! I just… uh, about earlier… I’m sorry. That was an accident.”
Jiang Youning gave her a cool glance. “I didn’t take it that seriously.”
“Oh…” Su Chenli answered softly.
There was a trace of disappointment in her voice—even she didn’t realize it.
No wonder she’s the devoted supporting character, Su Chenli thought bitterly. Her heart is only for the sweet Omega heroine. Is that why she doesn’t care about a kiss—because she doesn’t feel anything at all?
Rain continued to pound the roof, the noise making the silence inside the car feel heavier. Jiang Youning stared at the rain-shrouded road ahead, lost in thought. After a long pause, she suddenly asked, “Didn’t you used to go out drinking and messing around with Zhong Li? Why would this matter to you?”
“Huh?” Su Chenli was caught off guard. That was the original Su Chenli, not her. She was a responsible, squeaky-clean actress!
But under Jiang Youning’s gaze, she had no choice but to play along. “I… well, it’s complicated between us.”
Jiang Youning was quiet for a moment. Her long lashes dipped down slightly, and she seemed to smile faintly. “Because I’m the research director my father values?”
“…Yeah. That’s right.” Su Chenli was panicking and didn’t even register exactly what Jiang Youning had said—she just nodded, trying to get through the moment.
“…Then you could probably like lots of people, couldn’t you?” Jiang Youning turned her head and looked at her. Her eyes were calm, as though she wasn’t speaking to Su Chenli, but trying to convince herself of something.
Su Chenli froze. She finally realized what Jiang Youning was implying—and her expression turned serious. She leaned toward her without hesitation.
Closing the distance, she grabbed Jiang Youning’s arm in urgency. “That’s not it. I don’t like ‘lots of people.’ I wouldn’t go around kissing just any—”
Knock-knock-knock!
She was cut off mid-sentence by a loud, aggressive knocking on the window, followed by a man’s rough voice shouting, “Anyone in there?! Can you hear me? If not, I’m breaking the window!”
The knocking came from Jiang Youning’s side.
Even someone as composed and reserved as Jiang Youning was caught off guard by the sudden banging. She instinctively shrank toward the driver’s seat.
Su Chenli didn’t think much of it—she naturally reached over to shield Jiang Youning’s head and said casually, “It’s okay, I’ll check.”
Jiang Youning hadn’t actually been that scared—just startled. But hearing Su Chenli’s calm reassurance, she hesitated just as she was about to sit upright… and, oddly enough, remained right where she was, still nestled under Su Chenli’s protective gesture.
Su Chenli, however, didn’t notice this small detail.
Outside, the rain was still pouring. The world beyond the window was a blurred mess of gray. Through the haze, she could just make out a figure standing by the car, wearing a black rubber raincoat that looked eerily like something out of a horror movie.
…They definitely didn’t look like a good guy. But the more Su Chenli looked, the more they resembled someone from her hired security team.
While shielding Jiang Youning with one hand, Su Chenli used the other to retrieve her satellite phone from where her bag had fallen to the floor.
According to her original plan, the private security team she hired was supposed to follow from a distance, keeping watch over her and Jiang Youning’s car. With the heavy rain and treacherous roads, she had assumed they’d stay at the foot of the mountain. She hadn’t expected them to charge up in this weather.
As soon as the call connected, the man outside the window stopped knocking. After a short pause, a voice came through: “Ms. Su?”
So, it really was her security team.
“…Yeah, it’s me,” Su Chenli replied calmly. “Stop banging—any harder and you’ll break the glass. We’re both fine in here and able to move.”
“Oh, thank goodness,” the man outside sighed in relief, his voice lightening. “When I saw the state of the car, I nearly had a heart attack.”
On a night like this, in a wrecked car, having backup arrive was a blessing. Jiang Youning lifted her head. “Someone you know?”
“Yeah,” Su Chenli nodded. “They’re from my dad’s security team. Probably tracked me by satellite and came to pick us up.”
She told the lie with a perfectly straight face. The raincoat-clad man outside played along, saying nothing.
“Chairman Su’s people?” Jiang Youning’s expression turned serious. She started to open the car door. “I should go talk to them.”
“No, no—wait!” Su Chenli immediately reached out and stopped her, hurriedly taking off her own blazer and handing it over. “At least put this on first.”
Jiang Youning’s clothes were soaked through, clinging tightly to her figure. Stepping out like that… wouldn’t leave much to the imagination.
She glanced down at the finely tailored blazer, paused for a moment, then accepted it gently.
Su Chenli looked slightly awkward as she turned away and cleared her throat. “Just wear it for now. I’ll go ask if they have anything dry for you to change into.”
With that, she pushed open the door and practically fled the car.
Her side of the car was closer to the cliff, so she had to back up a bit to close the door properly. The rain was ice-cold and pelted her like BBs, soaking her hair instantly. She reached up and slicked the dripping strands back.
A moment later, someone handed her a sturdy carbon-fiber umbrella. It didn’t help much in the downpour, but it was better than nothing.
“Ms. Su! Why’d you come out yourself? We were about to get you!” the man in the raincoat shouted near her ear.
The storm was so loud, shouting was the only way to hear anything.
Though Su Chenli also felt it was kind of dumb to have rushed out so fast, she wasn’t about to admit it. Instead, she asked, “Do you have any dry clothes in the car?”
“For you? Of course.”
“Not just me,” she said. “There’s someone else in the car.”
“Don’t worry, we came prepared. We’re professionals!” the man replied confidently.
Su Chenli finally glanced toward the road where two Jeeps with emergency lights flashing were parked.
…No wonder they had the guts to come up the mountain in this weather.
She walked back to the car and tapped lightly on the window.
The glass rolled down. Jiang Youning, now wearing Su Chenli’s blazer, appeared in the opening.
The security guard was still holding the umbrella. Su Chenli bent slightly and looked at her. “Do you still want to go to Lin City?”
Jiang Youning paused, glanced at the security team behind her, then asked hesitantly, “Would it be too much trouble?”
“They brought two Jeeps,” Su Chenli said. “Good off-road models. Once the rain eases up, we should be good to go.”
Jiang Youning hesitated only a moment before answering firmly, “Let’s go.”
“…Okay,” Su Chenli nodded.
She wasn’t surprised. Jiang Youning had always seemed like someone who made up her mind and didn’t waver.
Once everything was settled, the security team held up umbrellas and escorted the two of them to different vehicles. As Su Chenli was getting into her car, she glanced back, just in time to catch Jiang Youning looking her way.
A little surprised, Su Chenli still raised her hand and waved.
Jiang Youning seemed to notice. Her movements paused for a beat—then, without responding, she turned and got into her vehicle.
Su Chenli couldn’t help but smile and shake her head. Maybe Jiang Youning had hesitated, wondering whether or not to wave back.
Then she turned and climbed into the Jeep prepared for her.
…Now that the crisis was over, and she’d confirmed a few of the rules in this small world, maybe it was time to deal with her “good friend” Zhong Li—the scummy Alpha—and speed things along a bit on that side too.
