- Chapter 18 - Small World II
Su Chenli once again found herself in the blank white space where she’d first met the system.
It was still as empty and silent as ever, stretching into nothingness, with no sign of Jiang Youning, H University, or the research center.
Everything familiar had vanished—as if the world itself was reminding Su Chenli that her experience in the small world had only been a dream. An illusion. A fleeting fantasy, like a bubble that burst the moment the scene ended.
Even the person she had longed for… the one she loved… was the same.
“Host… are you crying?”
Only when the system spoke did Su Chenli realize her cheeks were wet. She reached up and touched her face—tears. She hadn’t even noticed they had started falling.
“I…” She tried to deny it, but when she opened her mouth, her voice was already hoarse. “I’m not…”
Hearing her voice, the system fell silent.
After standing there in a daze for a while, Su Chenli finally couldn’t help but ask,
“Is there really no way I can see her again? I don’t care if she’s just a character. What about an accidental meeting, or something like your systems mentioned before—re-entering the small world? You always talk about points. If I earn enough, can I see her again?”
“…Well, with enough points, it’s theoretically possible to reset a worldline. But it’s an incredibly costly exchange…”
“…Never mind. I doubt you’d listen anyway. If you’re truly set on meeting the Devoted Supporting Character again, you’ll need to start completing missions immediately. It could take decades to earn enough points. Are you sure you want that?”
“I’m sure.”
“As long as I can see her again—even if it takes a long time—I don’t care,” Su Chenli replied without hesitation. “Send me to the next world. I want to start now.”
“…Alright then.”
“In that case, once you complete your background role task, I’ll transfer you to a higher-tier mission with better point rewards.”
“Thank you,” Su Chenli whispered, eyes shut.
That was the person she chose to love—the one she wanted to be with. She had chosen Jiang Youning. How could she possibly give up?
The system, receiving Su Chenli’s confirmation, began retrieving information about the new world.
Just as the transfer was about to begin, the system briefly detected a ripple from the small world Su Chenli had just exited. It seemed… another system had intervened.
Shouldn’t be anything major, it thought. Maybe another mission agent just entered that world.
Beep—
A prompt from the central system interrupted its curiosity, forcing it to refocus.
“Small world loaded. Your identity: idle second-generation rich kid. Traits: good at shopping, bad at everything else. Current mission: Follow original plotline and make occasional cameo appearances in this cliché melodrama. Once the two leads reach their HE (happily-ever-after), you may exit the world.”
“World stability verified. Host consciousness initializing…”
The familiar notifications flashed across Su Chenli’s vision—followed by the now-familiar wave of dizziness that swept her away.
When she opened her eyes again, the once-endless blank space had collapsed into something uncomfortably narrow. Sounds were muffled, the air smelled faintly of luxury perfume, and she blinked to find herself seated in the back of a speeding car.
The scenery outside whizzed past. She was alone in the spacious backseat.
…Seriously. Could the system ever manage a normal entry point?
“Miss Su,” a man seated in the passenger seat—likely her assistant or secretary—spoke up.
“We’re almost at the company. The chairman was already furious after the last incident. You can’t afford to walk away again.”
Chairman? Who? Su Chenli frowned slightly in confusion.
“Don’t panic, Host—I’m here!”
“Chairman Su is your current identity’s father. You’re en route to Su Group’s industrial park. This is the opening scene of your new small world. Would you like to load background data?”
At least the system showed up on time this time.
“Yes,” Su Chenli answered.
“Got it!”
“Welcome to your second mission world—titled: The Cold Miss’s Stubborn White Moonlight! In this world, a cold and ruthless Alpha and a low-born but strong-willed Omega will enact a classic drama of domination, heartbreak, and redemption. The Alpha, once the hunter, will ultimately bow before the prey.”
“And you—Host—will play the Alpha’s rich, idle friend. A total side character. All you have to do is show up occasionally and witness their love story unfold. Easy, breezy… just as long as you don’t fall for anyone again.”
The last line was muttered quietly, almost under the system’s breath.
Su Chenli, whose mind had finally started to drift away from her last mission, froze the moment the system said that. Jiang Youning’s face flashed clearly in her mind.
She went still.
“Miss Su?” the secretary asked cautiously.
Su Chenli snapped out of it, jolted back to the present by the voice. She looked up reflexively—only for her gaze to land on her own reflection in the rearview mirror.
It was then she realized—she’d been thinking about the beautiful professor so intently…
…that she’d forgotten to control her expression.
It was probably her expression that caught the attention of other NPCs.
Su Chenli, whose only goal was to get through the task quickly so she could earn enough points to find her beautiful professor, closed her eyes briefly, forcing herself to stay calm. Then, in her mind, she snapped at the system:
“…Shut up.”
【Oh…】 the system responded pitifully, falling silent.
Su Chenli took a slow breath, slipped into character, and furrowed her brows with a touch of annoyance. She glanced at the assistant in the front passenger seat.
“I got it. I was just spacing out. How long until we get to the company?”
The assistant, relieved to see that “Young Miss Su” had returned to normal, responded quickly:
“About ten more minutes. Traffic on Huaihai Road was heavy, so the driver took a detour. We’ll be a little later than usual.”
Su Chenli nodded absently, acting as disinterested as any spoiled heiress should. She knew that this body’s original personality—a rich, clueless second-gen with no career ambitions—wouldn’t get flagged for being inattentive. That meant she had room to mentally organize what she knew about this new small world.
If the system’s information was correct, the Alpha protagonist in this story would, just like Zhong Li in the previous world, eventually regret everything and go through a desperate “win-her-back” arc.
That didn’t matter much in theory. Her role this time was just to float around the periphery. The protagonists had their own drama—none of it should affect her.
But now, her goal was different.
She wanted to finish her tasks as quickly as possible, earn the points, and go find Jiang Youning.
Which meant… she couldn’t avoid advancing the plot, could she?
Outside the window, the scenery blurred past. Ten minutes later, they pulled into a sleek, high-tech industrial park—meticulously planned, with modern architecture that clearly cost a fortune.
“We’re here, Miss Su,” the assistant said as he got out first and opened the car door for her. While doing so, he gave her one last reminder, almost pleading,
“Please, just try not to upset the chairman this time. Even if you’re pretending—pretend properly, or you’ll end up getting scolded again.”
“Mm-hmm. Got it,” Su Chenli replied, feigning a bored, dismissive attitude.
She would be acting, of course—just perfectly in line with the original’s character.
That said, this earnest assistant might end up disappointed anyway.
Stepping into Building A, she was greeted by a bright, lively lobby. The reception desk stood prominently at the center, and all around it were cheerful spaces—a trendy coffee shop, a convenience store, a dessert café, even a flower shop.
It had “tech startup culture” written all over it.
The employees moving through the lobby were mostly young, all with purpose in their steps. Still, many of them seemed to recognize her and politely greeted her:
“Good morning, Miss Su!”
Su Chenli had no choice but to nod her way through the row of entry gates—each shaped like the company’s cheerful mascot.
As they headed for the elevator, the assistant continued walking slightly ahead, explaining as they went:
“The chairman would like you to meet with him first. After that, we’ll determine which department you’ll be placed in.”
Su Chenli gave a vague nod, following him to the elevator.
Having experienced this once before, she already knew: Some parts of the plot are unavoidable.
Still, just to test the waters, she asked the system:
“If I skipped this scene, would it break anything? Like, if I wanted to go see the AO female leads right now—would that cause issues?”
【Uh… about that…】 The system sounded hesitant.
【Technically, yes, it can be skipped—but I don’t recommend it. In this world, Host’s character is actually quite closely connected to the Devoted Supporting Character. If I’m not mistaken, what you’re about to experience next… is your first meeting with her. Skipping it might destabilize the plot down the line.】
The Devoted Supporting Character?
That was fine too.
Su Chenli remained calm as she considered it. Pushing forward the plot wasn’t too complicated anyway—her job was simply to accelerate the AO leads’ interactions while limiting how much screen time the supporting character got with the Omega female lead.
If meeting the Devoted Supporting Character helped do that…
Then she was more than willing to go.
Su Chenli’s gaze drifted to the digital display above the elevator—the numbers ticking steadily downward. Just as it was about to reach the ground floor, she suddenly heard a commotion coming from the general office area near Administration and Sales.
More specifically, it sounded like someone was being one-sidedly berated.
Su Chenli tilted her head slightly and caught sight of a slender figure in her peripheral vision. The girl had long, straight black hair cascading down her back, wore a simple blouse tucked into a chiffon skirt, and despite her lack of makeup, had a delicate and striking beauty. She looked like the kind of person who was quietly extraordinary.
But right now, that beautiful Omega employee seemed to be under pressure—visibly trying to restrain her anger as she reasoned calmly with the colleagues who had surrounded her.
Su Chenli’s gaze swept over the group but soon returned to the refined Omega at the center.
She really stood out—almost too much. Like she didn’t belong in this office space at all. With such a stark contrast in tone, could this woman be… a key character?
【Ding ding ding~ Congrats, Host—you guessed right! This is Sang Jianyu, the Stubborn White Moonlight Omega of Small World #2! As the unique “white moonlight” to the domineering Alpha CEO, she’s often targeted like this. Since you happened to run into her, do you want to approach and build some rapport? Learn about the character?】
Su Chenli didn’t reply. She simply observed the Omega from afar.
She did seem tough—her expression calm, her voice steady, her reasoning clear. Even while being ganged up on, she never lost her composure.
Perhaps Su Chenli stared too long, because even her secretary began to notice her distraction.
Following Su Chenli’s line of sight, he glanced toward the cluster of arguing employees, then lowered his voice and asked,
“Should we intervene, Miss Su?”
Su Chenli frowned slightly. She was just about to answer when the elevator beside them chimed with a soft ding, signaling its arrival on the first floor.
The doors slid open.
Su Chenli looked at the elevator that had taken so long to arrive—and didn’t hesitate for long.
“Forget it,” she said coolly.
She had just arrived in this new small world—better to observe a bit more first. And besides, she was just a nobody, a background second-gen rich girl. Why would she need to earn favor with the Omega protagonist?
It made more sense to go meet this world’s Devoted Supporting Character instead.
Expression indifferent, Su Chenli stepped into the elevator.
At the exact moment her figure disappeared behind the closing doors, the elevator next to hers also chimed and opened.
From within stepped a tall, strikingly beautiful woman—sharp brows, bright eyes, a fierce, polished presence. Her makeup was bold and flawless. Her suit, while formal, still hugged graceful curves that couldn’t be hidden. She exuded an imposing, untouchable aura.
The employees nearby, who had originally intended to board that elevator, instantly backed away like a receding tide.
“S–Good morning, Director Xie,” someone in the crowd said nervously.
“Mm.” The woman responded flatly, striding out in her heels with crisp, efficient steps—heading directly toward the administrative office area.
The air in front of the elevators seemed to shift in her wake, and though she was already gone, Su Chenli—still inside the neighboring elevator—suddenly felt something stir.
She blinked, confused. Her mind, which had been wandering, snapped into focus just as the elevator doors closed.
And in that last sliver of space, she caught a fleeting glimpse of that passing figure.
…Who was that?
Was it her imagination?
Why did it seem like… she just caught a whiff of jasmine?
