I Was Just a Scumbag Extra, But She Loved Me Anyway [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 27
After nearly a month of intense investigation, the long-awaited strategy meeting to determine the future of Su Tech was finally convened.
This time, nearly all of the senior leadership was present—including Wang Chengshan.
This was the meeting that would decide whether all of Xie Xunyu’s efforts would pay off. Even though Su Chenli had no intention of getting involved from the beginning, she still couldn’t resist quietly slipping near the meeting room.
What if… something unexpected happened?
What if the meeting went south and triggered an emotional reaction from Xie Xunyu, causing her pheromones to spiral out of control?
No one in there would know how to handle that. Once again, it would fall to her.
So, Su Chenli silently took up a spot just outside the door, tilting her head slightly to listen in.
A passing executive assistant gave her a confused look and was about to greet her—but Su Chenli held up a hand to stop them. She just wanted to listen quietly.
Sure enough, things inside were already heating up.
“President Xie, even if you say that, it doesn’t change the fact that the entire project may have already been leaked,” said the business director with a disapproving look. “As you can see, Yujian’s already shown signs of following our direction. Now that we have a copycat in the market, pushing forward will inevitably come with heavy blowback.”
Xie Xunyu’s brow furrowed slightly, but she didn’t speak.
Before she could respond, the tech director snapped back.
“Director Chen, pretty easy for you to shoot your mouth off and decide the company’s future with a few words, huh?”
“Do you even realize how much of that plan falls on us in tech to implement? You want to rewrite the roadmap just like that? Must be nice to sit around and not do the actual work.”
Director Chen bristled. “If you can’t deliver, then hire better people and upgrade your systems. Don’t use your difficulties as an excuse. What—planning to cry about it when it’s time to market the product?”
That crossed a line. The tech director slammed the table.
“You wanna go?!”
“Enough,” Xie Xunyu finally interjected, her voice low and firm. Her frown deepened as she looked between them.
“This meeting is about determining the company’s direction. Let’s stop wasting time on personal jabs.”
With her intervention, the two directors glared at each other for a moment, then grudgingly fell silent.
Xie Xunyu turned back to the room.
“The key problems we’re facing now are: the risk of information leakage, and the increased competition we hadn’t fully anticipated. But let’s be clear—no market exists without competition. Though Yujian’s direction now appears similar to ours, we’re technically not in the same lane. Even if there’s some loss, it won’t be total.”
“The core of the product is already in place. If we abandon it now, the loss will be significant. Our current plan is to make structural adjustments while retaining the original framework—”
“President Xie,” interrupted Wang Chengshan, who had been silent until now. He sat just below her in rank and looked composed.
“Isn’t it a bit reckless to keep pushing the original plan given the circumstances? Yujian has Mingzhong Entertainment backing them—they’re well-funded, and their labs are advancing quickly. It’s entirely possible they’ll overtake us. If we end up becoming a stepping stone for them, the losses will be massive.”
Director Chen nodded in agreement, chiming in quietly: “That’s my concern as well.”
Xie Xunyu’s brow twitched, and she glanced at Director Chen but didn’t respond. Instead, she turned to Wang Chengshan.
“So, what does Director Wang suggest?”
Wang Chengshan looked at her, voice calm.
“I suggest sticking to the previous strategy for now and observing. The market changes quickly. Let Yujian test the waters first.”
Xie Xunyu’s expression hardened instantly.
“That strategy was revised precisely because we anticipated the traditional model drifting away from market demands. The data from the past few years already supports that. Falling back to outdated practices now isn’t a sound solution.”
Wang Chengshan gave her a patronizing look, as if indulging a naïve junior.
“But when this plan was first drafted, wasn’t President Xie still just middle management at Huanyu Group? Half a year’s time isn’t exactly long enough to claim deep understanding of a strategy this ambitious. Maybe we should let the more experienced voices weigh in.”
Xie Xunyu’s expression turned icy. She looked at Wang Chengshan with unmistakable hostility.
With his lead, more murmurs of dissent rippled through the room. Only the tech director held his ground, standing by Xie Xunyu’s position.
The meeting room was quickly filling with tension. Even from outside, Su Chenli could sense the shift in atmosphere—and she frowned.
Wasn’t that basically just calling Xie Xunyu incompetent?
And the one thing Xie Xunyu hated most… was being underestimated.
As the room devolved into chaotic debate, Su Chenli finally couldn’t take it anymore. She pushed the door open.
The noise cut off immediately. Silence fell, and every gaze turned toward her.
“Well, what a crowd,” Su Chenli said casually. Her voice was light, almost teasing, as she strolled into the room like she owned it.
Without so much as a glance at Xie Xunyu, she reached out and—rather rudely—patted Wang Chengshan on the shoulder, flashing a half-smile that was all contempt.
“Uncle Wang, did you clear this brilliant plan of yours with my dad first?”
The room went still.
Wang Chengshan blinked, clearly caught off guard.
“Has the chairman made a decision already?”
“Oh, not at all,” Su Chenli said breezily, smile turning slightly roguish.
“That’s why I came to ask you.”
Xie Xunyu quietly lifted a hand to her temple, sighing internally.
She knew it would be something like this.
Su Chenli had said from the beginning that she wouldn’t be attending the meeting—so how could she have asked the chairman in advance?
But then… why did she suddenly show up? What was she planning?
With a lazy smile, Su Chenli sat down in the seat opposite Wang Chengshan—the one that had been left empty from the start—and said, as if she were easygoing, “Please, carry on. I’m just here to listen in. No one minds that I’m late, right?”
No one dared to challenge her openly, of course. After all, this wasn’t Su Chenli’s first time attending a SuTech board meeting. According to the backstory, the original Su Chenli did hold shares in SuTech. Chairman Su had tried several times to get her involved in the company’s affairs, but she always left shortly after joining—vanishing every time.
Otherwise, how would nearly the entire company have recognized her on her first day back?
Most people were used to this by now—everyone except Xie Xunyu, who frowned slightly.
She had spent the past few days with Su Chenli. If the chairman had given Su Chenli any instructions, she would’ve known.
So… was Su Chenli acting on her own initiative?
Noticing Xie Xunyu’s gaze, Su Chenli curved her lips into a subtle smile and winked at her from an angle that no one else could see.
It was a rare moment of goodwill—Su Chenli hoped Xie Xunyu would understand the cue and not blow her cover.
Xie Xunyu gave Su Chenli a long, searching look but ultimately said nothing. She simply looked away.
The meeting continued, but Su Chenli’s presence had clearly silenced Wang Chengshan and his faction.
Her earlier comment—“Does my father know you decided this?”—had practically scared Wang Chengshan out of his wits. As the meeting went on, he grew increasingly paranoid, wondering if Su Kuanghai already knew what he had been up to and had simply sent the seemingly clueless Su Chenli as a warning.
Yet Su Chenli, after taking her seat, didn’t say another word. She sat there casually, watching each executive as they spoke, idly playing with a fountain pen. No one could tell what she was thinking.
Those with a clear conscience had nothing to fear. But for Wang Chengshan’s camp, every sentence had to be carefully weighed—would Su Chenli report their words back to Su Kuanghai?
The meeting, which should have ended with Xie Xunyu delivering a report to the board, gradually lost momentum under Su Chenli’s calm but unsettling gaze. Wang Chengshan did soften his stance somewhat—Su Chenli could tell he was clearly feeling guilty—but he still held firm and refused to give in.
…It seemed he wouldn’t repent until the very last moment.
With the meeting at a stalemate, Xie Xunyu had no choice but to announce a suspension. It would resume in a week. One by one, the executives filed out, leaving only Xie Xunyu and Su Chenli behind.
Su Chenli leaned back in her chair, toying with the pen. She flashed Xie Xunyu a smile. “Why are you staring at me?”
Xie Xunyu didn’t respond right away. Not until the door shut behind them—closed by the secretary—did she look directly at Su Chenli and ask bluntly, “Why did you come?”
“Uh…” Su Chenli’s eyes drifted. She answered uncertainly, “For fun?”
Xie Xunyu frowned. “I’m asking you seriously.”
Seeing her expression, Su Chenli hesitated to lie. She gave a helpless smile and said, “I’m just here to listen. Why so serious?”
“How can it not be serious?” Xie Xunyu’s brows furrowed deeper. “Do you even understand what’s happening in the company right now? Speaking out or taking sides at a time like this—aren’t you afraid of getting dragged in?”
Of course, Su Chenli wasn’t afraid. She was only here to complete a task. With the system giving her a god’s-eye view, what did she have to fear? She had even known the ending of the story from the start. The only reason she had interfered at all was because…
Because… well, even Su Chenli herself couldn’t say exactly why. Maybe she just wanted to save Xie Xunyu some trouble.
Besides, things were progressing smoothly on the AO female lead’s side of the romance plot. There was no need to drag this storyline out any longer.
Su Chenli leaned lazily against the swivel chair. With a gentle push of her foot, she rolled over to Xie Xunyu’s side.
“I don’t really know the full situation inside the company,” she admitted casually. “But I do know you’ve been trying to uncover who’s causing problems within SuTech. Maybe you should start with Wang Chengshan?”
As she spoke, Su Chenli slowly lifted her phone and turned the lit-up screen toward Xie Xunyu.
The chat interface with Leng Xin was openly displayed in front of her.
Su Chenli: We’re all sisters here—help me out a little, okay? You’ve already wrapped up your business plan. Just leak me a little info so I can clean house. That’s not too much to ask, right?
Leng Xin: I’ve only been here for a month. And that’s not even in my scope of work, so I really don’t know. But I have seen someone from your side—a guy with the surname Chen—visiting someone on our team.
Leng Xin: I can’t remember his full name, just that he’s always out handling external business stuff.
The rest of the chat was just a few light-hearted emoji exchanges with no further information.
After reading the messages, Xie Xunyu spoke almost instinctively. “Leng Xin’s probably talking about Supervisor Chen? That would mean…”
“He’s one of Wang Chengshan’s men,” Su Chenli calmly said, pocketing her phone.
“…Do you think that information’s reliable?” Xie Xunyu looked down at the now-serious Su Chenli. She had been about to reject the idea outright but hesitated, opting to pose it as a question instead.
“Whether it’s reliable or not, it’s at least a lead.” Su Chenli stood up and smiled at her. “You know us rich kids—we’re usually not all that dependable.”
Xie Xunyu lowered her eyes, saying nothing more.
Su Chenli watched her sink into thought and quietly sighed. With her level of business acumen, this was the best she could come up with. The original story didn’t specify how Xie Xunyu uncovered Wang Chengshan’s misdeeds, so Su Chenli was grasping at straws.
Still, given Xie Xunyu’s naturally suspicious nature, she’d probably do at least a little digging…
Just as Su Chenli was thinking this, her long-silent system suddenly came online.
[Good afternoon, Host! This is your ever-dutiful system checking in! Just a quick urgent heads-up: toward the end of the storyline, Xie Xunyu’s Omega status will be forcibly exposed. Please be advised to take early precautions and steer clear of unnecessary risks~]
