I was Reincarnated as an Incompetent Leader with Zero Popularity who met his downfall early on. Instead of banishing the hidden cheat Protagonist, I decided to embrace him, and somehow, I ended up being treated like a Hero instead. - Chapter 7
According to Elena, the beautiful woman with glasses, the material used to create my reincarnation world was flawed.
In other words, it was based on the novel I had scribbled in my notebook.
“Wait, isn’t this Alva person the main character?”
“Uh, that’s actually a spin-off short story.”
“Why would you focus on some villain who dies immediately?”
“Well, it’s sort of like… even villains have their own stories, you know?”
“And here, in the description of Chrono Nightley’s appearance, it says ‘an androgynous beautiful girl’?”
“Oh, um, that’s… a typo.”
“Why didn’t you proofread it after writing it!?”
Why am I being criticized for my amateur novel by someone from the future?
It wasn’t even something I wrote with others in mind. Well, I did consider submitting it for a contest.
But who would have thought that the notebook my mom burned to ashes would be restored a thousand years later and read by someone else?
“So, my soul was reincarnated as Alva because the short story and the main story got mixed up…”
“And Chrono Nightley became a woman because of your typo.”
It’s not my fault. That’s what Elena’s gaze seemed to insist.
“But if someone read the entire work, wouldn’t they realize that Chrono is the protagonist and male?”
“Well… that’s debatable.”
“Wait, what?”
“The work wasn’t fully restored to perfection.”
“After all, it was a manuscript reduced to ashes a thousand years ago,” she said, lifting her glasses like a strict schoolteacher.
Apparently, my novel’s pages were scattered and partly eaten away, with only fragments remaining. Using those fragments, they reconstructed the characters and settings, resulting in the world I just inhabited.
Humanity of the future had tried to grant my wish.
However, because the reference material was incomplete, the result didn’t align with my intended reincarnation.
But did they really have to reincarnate me as a throwaway villain who dies instantly?
“But recovery is possible. Let’s recreate the world and its people exactly as you wish,” Elena suggested, as casually as if copying a document or restarting a game without saving.
However, I couldn’t immediately agree.
What would happen to the tavern’s landlady or the girl Chrono? What about the other inhabitants of that world?
Elena answered my question without hesitation.
“It’s a failed creation, so we’ll delete the entire stage. But we’ll generate equivalent replacements right away.”
“You’ll be able to enjoy a perfect world without any waiting time,” she said with a smile like a theme park attendant.
The word “failed creation” brought my mother’s face to mind—the woman who had burned my notebook and room to ashes.
I remembered Chrono’s innocent sleeping face and the landlady’s voice telling me, “Go home safely,” even as she kicked me out of her establishment.
They are alive. The people in that world exist.
Alva—I—haven’t died yet. I haven’t banished Chrono. I haven’t entered a destruction route.
Surely, I can still make things right.
Even if I’m not the protagonist, I don’t have to sacrifice the world and its people.
This time, I’ll live properly and find real happiness.
“There’s no need to erase the inhabitants just to rebuild the world. I’ll live as Alva.”
The moment I declared this to Elena, the back of my hand burned with fiery heat.
“Ow!”
The searing pain vanished instantly, and when I nervously checked my right hand, I saw a glowing red mark—neither a letter nor a pattern—that had appeared on my skin.
“Condition cleared. You have earned the title of ‘Savior of a Failed World.’”
As if waiting for this moment, a mechanical voice emerged from the wall speakers.
“Alva Grayblood. Multiple high-level skills are now available for unlocking.”
“Well, well, there’s no helping it… You really are hopelessly softhearted,” Elena muttered with a sigh.
“Follow the instructions of the goddess Elenna and select your skills.”
With those words, the classroom transformed into a majestic temple.
Though I couldn’t fully grasp the situation, my heart pounded with excitement.
