I Was Told 'No One Would Miss You,' So I Became the Empress of Another Country - Episode 10
I attended my first official meeting as Logan’s assistant.
The place was the grand conference room in the royal palace.
Around the luxurious round table, the king, major nobles, and representatives from the empire were all gathered.
I nervously sat at the edge of the table.
Logan sat next to me and quietly went over the key points with me.
“First, we need to reach an agreement with the Kingdom of Lowell on the treaty proposal from the Empire. The issue is how Prince Leon will react.”
That was exactly right.
My father was sitting next to the king, seriously going over the documents.
However, Crown Prince Leon was sitting with his arms crossed, looking somewhat displeased, and occasionally glaring in our direction.
Soon, the negotiations began.
An envoy from the Empire explained the key points of the treaty, and the king and my father responded, progressing the discussion.
But then, Leon stood up and raised his voice.
“Isn’t this treaty proposal one-sidedly disadvantageous to the Kingdom of Lowell? And what is the intention behind calling Lady Celestia, the former fiancée, to this meeting? A woman whose engagement was broken off shouldn’t be involved in diplomacy. It’s laughable.”
The large conference room fell silent for a moment.
Leon’s gaze pierced me, but I somehow managed to suppress my unease.
It was as if he was criticizing my very presence at the meeting.
To make matters worse, Flora hurriedly stood up, acting as though she was about to cry.
“That’s right. From what I heard, Celestia is supposedly in secret talks with the Empire… There are rumors about it. Perhaps there’s some hidden motive for her attendance here?”
An obvious lie.
She was trying to use this moment to degrade me again.
I pressed my lips together, looking for the right moment to argue back.
At that moment, Logan spoke in a calm voice.
“Oh? You’re saying something interesting. Do you have any proof that Celestia is secretly in league with the Empire?”
Flora froze for a moment, but quickly tried to cover it up with more words.
“N-no, not exactly… But she was the one whose engagement was broken. She’s mentally unstable and cannot make objective judgments.”
It was a baseless slander.
Just as I was about to open my mouth to refute it, Logan raised his hand to stop me.
“If you claim that Celestia is unstable, I will guarantee her mental stability. She has the judgment and consideration to assist me properly.
There is no reason to believe in the lies you’re spreading.”
The room murmured in response to Logan’s words.
The Emperor had defended me in public.
It was clear that Leon and Flora were visibly shaken.
I felt warmth rise in my chest, and I bowed slightly before continuing.
“I am here only because I want to assist His Majesty Logan. I have no personal grudges, and I do not intend to harm the interests of the kingdom. On the contrary, I wish for the prosperity of the Kingdom of Lowell alongside all of you.”
In that moment, I felt like some of the participants in the meeting directed slightly more positive glances at me.
Indeed, Flora’s words had no evidence, and they could only be taken as unfounded insults.
Leon clicked his tongue and readjusted his position in his chair.
Flora also bit her lip, glaring at me in frustration.
But I didn’t flinch.
Their shallow schemes had no place here.
Thanks to Logan’s support, I was able to escape from the awkward situation in the meeting.
Flora was still searching for her next move, sending me a frustrated glare.
Leon likely hadn’t given up yet.
They would probably keep using any means to try to discredit me.
Still, I had decided to follow the path I believed in.
Logan’s words and actions gave me a strong sense of support, as if he were firmly backing me up.
