I Was Told 'No One Would Miss You,' So I Became the Empress of Another Country - Episode 13
As Flora and Leon’s plan to fabricate evidence moved forward, I began to have more frequent contact with Logan.
In the role of assisting with his negotiations, I had more opportunities to attend meetings with the Empire’s delegation.
During breaks, we sometimes found a small amount of time to talk privately.
Usually, our conversations centered around work, but one day, we unexpectedly found ourselves discussing our pasts and personal feelings.
“I became the ruler of the Empire because of an early succession. The previous emperor passed away suddenly from illness, and there were constant conflicts with the nobles, so I had to shoulder that heavy responsibility at a young age,” Logan began, speaking in a low voice.
Hearing this, it made me realize that even someone as dignified as him had gone through such a difficult time, and it made my heart ache.
“At first, many didn’t recognize me as the emperor. There were enemy nations threatening to invade from outside, and internal factions were plotting to remove me. I didn’t know who to trust,” he continued.
“…It must have been really tough,” I said quietly.
“Days filled with suspicion made me close off my heart. No matter how much I tried to smile, part of me always wondered, ‘Will I be betrayed again?'” he added.
I was speechless and simply listened carefully.
The reason he had the emperor’s dignity and coldness must have been because he had gone through such hardships.
“But… when I talk to you, strangely, that suspicion eases. Maybe it’s because you’re straightforward and don’t lie,” he said.
At that moment, my heart fluttered slightly.
I too realized how much I depended on his presence. Since my engagement was broken off, I had felt surrounded by enemies in the capital, and Logan’s support was a huge comfort.
“Honestly, I’ve been saved by you too. When I felt like I was being manipulated by Leon and Flora’s schemes, hearing your voice gave me reassurance,” I said.
Logan’s expression softened slightly at my words.
“I’ve been saved by you as well. Even though we’re from different countries, people can still connect with each other like this. Perhaps I… wanted to believe in that,” he replied.
His words warmed my heart.
I had thought I had very few allies, but if the emperor was by my side, I felt like I could become a little stronger.
Before I knew it, a faint feeling had begun to blossom in my heart.
In such a short time, I had never felt this way before, even during my engagement to Leon.
This stirred up a mix of feelings, both confused and unsure.
“I heard that the day of your departure is approaching, Your Majesty. Will you be returning to the Empire soon?” I asked, almost without thinking.
The moment I asked, I felt my heart flutter strangely.
Logan smiled and nodded.
“The original purpose of my stay here is almost complete. I just need to finalize the details of the alliance. Once that’s done, I’ll have to return to the Empire,” he said.
Why did I feel such sadness?
It had only been a few weeks of exchange, but the thought of him leaving, someone who had been a big support to me, made it feel as though a hole had opened in my heart.
“However, with Prince Leon’s interference, it might take a little more time before the alliance is fully settled,” he added.
I nodded at his words, but couldn’t bring myself to speak.
If things continue like this, he would eventually return to his distant country.
At that point, would I once again be left alone, uncertain in the capital?
As I asked myself this, my heart stirred.
There was a complex feeling within me that couldn’t be explained by just trust and gratitude alone.
I wasn’t sure if this was what affection felt like, but I knew one thing for certain:
I didn’t want to lose Logan.
