I Was Told 'No One Would Miss You,' So I Became the Empress of Another Country - Episode 14
The fabrication plan by Leon and Flora was finally set in motion.
Rumors were spreading in the court that there were moves to accuse me of betrayal against the Empire.
“I’ve heard rumors that Celestia plans to sell information to the Empire… I know it’s completely baseless, but more and more people are starting to believe it,” Lydia reported, clearly upset.
In the end, when the name of Crown Prince Leon is mentioned, the surrounding nobles tend to believe it without question. People are easily swayed just by the will of the royal family.
“Flora is preparing to present the fabricated documents as ‘decisive evidence.’ Someone overheard her telling her followers about it in a low voice,” Lydia added.
Documents… those are probably the tools she plans to use to frame me as a traitor.
If they’ve forged my signature or writing, no matter how much I deny it, I may not be able to dispel the suspicion.
In noble society, once rumors start, it’s hard to overturn them.
“But we can’t give up. If those documents are truly fake, there will surely be a mistake sooner or later,” I said, reassuring myself, and shared the information with my father.
My father also instructed the military and the Duke’s subordinates to investigate.
At that moment, Lydia spoke up with excitement.
“Actually, I… might have gotten a copy of those documents.”
“…Really?” I asked.
“It’s not certain yet, but when I made contact with one of Flora’s followers, it seems they were passing around some ‘suspicious documents.’ I used a little bribe and had someone take photos of part of it by writing it down as a copy,” Lydia explained.
I hadn’t expected Lydia to take such a risk. From what she said, she hadn’t gotten the actual document, but she had learned part of the content.
It contained my name and what seemed like my signature.
“I’ll inform Father and have him carefully verify it,” I said.
“Right. If the copy matches the original, we can prove it’s a forgery by comparing the handwriting,” Lydia said seriously.
I also felt this could be a critical moment. Before Flora presents her “decisive evidence,” we need to prepare to expose the forgery.
After a while, when Lydia showed the copy she had obtained to my father, his expression immediately became grim.
“This… the handwriting is completely different. It’s not the same as the letters Celestia and I have seen countless times. Flora and the others have been very sloppy with the forgery,” he said.
“They weren’t careless, but they might have been in a hurry. Maybe Prince Leon rushed them, or perhaps Flora was eager to trap me quickly…” I suggested.
Father nodded, still staring at the copy of the document.
“If they go ahead and present the forged documents as real in the court, we’ll have a chance to win this. I’m grateful for Lydia’s efforts,” he said.
“Yes. It looks like we can turn this around,” I replied.
A small sense of excitement began to rise in my heart.
What Leon and Flora thought was their “trump card” to socially bury me might just be the very thing that could trap them.
If they present the forgery in public, I can openly demand a handwriting comparison.
Luckily, I have many letters and records I’ve written over time.
When compared, it will be clear that the document isn’t something I wrote.
Flora’s fabrication plan feels like it’s closing in.
I steeled myself and continued to prepare, determined to defeat them.
