I Was Told 'No One Would Miss You,' So I Became the Empress of Another Country - Episode 17
When Logan declared that he would “reevaluate the alliance,” the capital city was suddenly thrown into chaos.
Many nobles and merchants feared that they would lose their interests if their relationship with the Empire was severed, showing signs of unrest everywhere.
In the midst of this, Leon publicly claimed that he was “thinking of the country’s best interests” in an attempt to calm things down. He also defended his actions to his father and other nobles, saying, “This personnel decision is just one part of a future reform,” using vague words to cover up his true intentions.
However, rumors never stopped circulating that behind the scenes, Leon was collaborating with Flora to plan their next move.
“Actually, it seems like Prince Leon is not only dealing with military matters, but he might also be trying to distance himself from the Empire’s envoys. Maybe he doesn’t want them gathering information in the capital,” Lydia said urgently, bringing me this news.
It seems that while he is outwardly calm, behind the scenes he is trying to distance himself as much as possible from the Empire. Whether this will lead to the breakdown of the alliance doesn’t seem to concern him, and I can’t understand Leon’s true intentions.
“Perhaps, for Leon, the alliance with the Empire is just an obstacle. Maybe he has some other ambition, possibly with Flora, that he is hiding,” I mused.
“Like, strengthening his dictatorship once he ascends to the throne…?” Lydia speculated.
I gasped at her guess. The fact that it was not entirely impossible was what made Leon so frightening.
I decided to consult with my father and urged him to expand our network of information in the capital.
“My lord, there have been reports of an unusually high number of merchants and soldiers coming in and out of the capital lately. It’s rumored that, under Prince Leon’s orders, supplies are being secretly transported to a certain location,” one of my father’s subordinates informed him.
When I heard this, I felt uneasy. What could the supplies being gathered in the capital be used for? I hope it’s not preparations for war, but seeing Leon’s actions, my worries won’t go away.
Amid this, I also received information that Flora was secretly working behind the scenes. She had been attending glamorous balls while secretly meeting with moneylenders and black-market traders.
I instructed Lydia to work with me and investigate Flora’s activities.
“Celestia, I’ll continue asking around through various people. But they are on high alert, so we must be careful,” Lydia said.
“Thank you, Lydia. I really appreciate it. Please avoid getting too close to any dangerous situations,” I replied.
It was highly likely that Flora and Leon would try to do something to sabotage me again. But I couldn’t back down now. Since my very existence was an obstacle to them, they might try to eliminate me forcibly. I couldn’t feel at ease.
Soon, an event happened that seemed to confirm my fears.
Lydia came rushing to me, out of breath.
“Celestia, I found another strange letter! It looks like Leon and Flora might be planning to eliminate you!” she said.
“Eliminate… me?” I whispered in shock.
Just hearing those words made my stomach tighten. This felt different from the fabricated documents from before.
The letter might contain a new plot to eliminate me.
“I haven’t been able to read everything clearly yet, but if we leave it unchecked, you could be in danger,” Lydia explained.
“I see… Thank you, Lydia. I’ll tell my father and push for further investigation,” I said, trying to stay calm.
As the capital descended into confusion, Leon and Flora’s desperation might have been growing. Rumors that Emperor Logan would soon leave the country had also spread, and they were probably trying to outsmart me in some way.
Understanding this, my father took precautionary measures by alerting part of the military and ensuring that Lydia and I could be quickly protected if needed.
I too coordinated with my maids to prevent any suspicious individuals from entering the palace.
“We cannot allow them to destroy what we have built. If Leon’s public efforts to calm things down are lies, we must pursue him to the end,” I said firmly.
As long as my existence was seen as an “obstacle” to them, there was no other choice but to fight or run. I made up my mind to face them head-on, with the support of my father and Lydia.
Then, Lydia came to me again with more news.
“Hey, Celestia, the letter I got seems to have more to it. It looks like they’ve prepared an order to send you to a desolate land far away…” she said.
In that moment, a cold shiver ran down my spine. It was clear that the plot to remove me from the capital was progressing in secret.
Hearing Lydia’s trembling voice, I steeled myself for what was to come.
“Thank you. Let’s dig a little deeper. I’ll tell my father and make preparations to inform the king,” I replied.
With that, we began gathering more information to expose Leon and Flora’s new conspiracy.
One day, those two might resort to their final move. When that time comes, we must ensure we corner them completely.
