I Was Told 'No One Would Miss You,' So I Became the Empress of Another Country - Episode 18
The contents of the letter that Lydia desperately uncovered were far more shocking than I had imagined.
It stated that, by royal decree, I was to be sent to a dangerous area outside the country.
Moreover, the letter, which was supposedly signed by the king, was highly likely to be a forgery.
“After all… is Prince Leon and Flora involved in this?”
I gripped the memo Lydia handed me, my voice trembling.
The order written on it stated: “The Duke of Kreutzfeldtt’s daughter is to be dispatched on an urgent mission to the frontier.”
The frontier often referred to regions where monsters and bandits were common, or areas close to war zones.
If I were really sent there, my life would be in serious danger.
“They went as far as forging the king’s signature just to drive you out of the country. Flora must have been gathering funds from moneylenders and black market merchants to support this plan.”
Lydia’s words made my chest tighten with anger and fear.
To go this far…
Did they want to eliminate me? Or did they just want me out of the way so they could do whatever they pleased?
This was no longer just about breaking off an engagement.
It was a full-blown national conspiracy.
“We must report this to Father immediately. This is far too serious to ignore.”
I rushed straight to my father’s office and told him about the forged letter.
His expression darkened, and he slammed his desk in fury.
“Unbelievable! For Leon to go this far—he must have lost his mind. This is nothing less than treason against the royal family!”
“Flora is just as guilty. The massive funds she’s been moving are surely for this plan. We need to gather evidence and present it directly to the king.”
Father immediately summoned his subordinates and ordered them to collect evidence.
If Leon and Flora had truly forged an official royal decree, even the crown prince wouldn’t get away with it.
The king was not foolish.
At the very least, once he heard of this, he would understand that Leon had gone too far.
“Celestia, we will take thorough action to gather evidence. You must act cautiously. If they realize we’re making a move, who knows what they might try next?”
“I understand. I’ll work with Lydia and my maids to ensure our safety while we act.”
Flora’s schemes relied heavily on money.
Since she was rumored to have ties to black market merchants, moving without guards would be too dangerous.
“Duke, when you meet with the king, we will accompany you. We should strengthen your security.”
Hearing the reassuring words of his subordinates, Father nodded.
That was how much of a threat Leon and Flora’s faction posed.
“However, there’s a strong chance they’ll strike first. Before we can present our evidence to the king, they may try to interfere.”
“Leon can abuse his authority as crown prince however he pleases. And Flora won’t back down easily either.”
I clenched my fists.
The royal capital was already in turmoil due to military personnel issues, and now, there was a plot to remove me.
If this conspiracy was exposed, the king’s wrath would be inevitable. But before that happened, there would surely be attempts to stop us.
That evening, I shared the information with Logan.
His brows furrowed, and he spoke in a low voice.
“They would go this far…? This is beyond just a power struggle. If the king does not act properly, the empire cannot intervene.”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t expect this to cause trouble for His Majesty.”
“You don’t need to apologize. The real issue is who will stop this conspiracy and how. If you or the duke are obstructed, I may have to step in myself.”
His golden eyes gleamed with unmistakable anger.
Given his strong sense of justice and his desire to protect the weak, it was only natural for him to be furious about this situation.
“We will present the evidence to the king and officially expose Leon and Flora’s crimes. Please give us a little more time.”
“Understood. I will remain in the Kingdom of Lowell and monitor the situation. Some have urged me to return early, but I cannot leave under these circumstances.”
Logan stated firmly, his expression calm yet filled with determination.
Just having him here in the capital was a great source of reassurance for me.
The real concern was what kind of interference we would face before we could report to the king.
Flora would use moneylenders and black market merchants.
Leon would use his authority as a royal.
No matter what it took, they would try to steal the evidence and force me into exile in a dangerous land.
But I would not back down.
To protect myself and to stop that reckless crown prince, I would make sure this evidence reached the king.
