I Was Told 'No One Would Miss You,' So I Became the Empress of Another Country - Episode 2
We left the grand hall and headed to the throne room, where the king was waiting.
Now that the engagement annulment had been officially declared, we had to hear the king’s decision on what actions would be taken.
But my father’s steps were heavy, and I, too, felt a deep sense of unease.
“This is completely unreasonable. For the crown prince to annul the engagement on his own—Your Majesty, what do you think of this?”
The moment my father entered the throne room, he questioned the king directly.
The king averted his eyes awkwardly, his lips tightening into a frown.
The surrounding officials also wore bitter expressions, subtly avoiding eye contact.
“…Duke, I would like to settle this matter peacefully, but Leon seems firm in his decision. If I forcefully stop him now, it could lead to greater turmoil. For now, we have no choice but to wait and see.”
His words made it clear he had no intention of taking action.
My father’s frustration only grew.
But in this kingdom, the crown prince’s influence was immense.
If even the king could not restrain him, then our family had no way to vent this unbearable anger.
“I understand. However, do not think this matter will end so easily. I will not overlook an act that disgraces the Kreutzfeldt family’s honor.”
My father’s voice was icy cold, making both the king and his attendants tense up.
A similar cold anger burned in my chest as well.
Even so, I had to remain calm and act wisely.
“Father, please control your emotions for now. No matter how upset I am, raising our voices here will achieve nothing.”
As I spoke, I tried to organize my own feelings.
The engagement annulment declared in the grand hall had been utterly humiliating.
But my life was far from over.
I had no time to wallow in sorrow.
As we stepped out of the throne room, my best friend, Lydia, came running toward me.
Her chestnut-colored hair was braided, and her youthful features made her look a little innocent.
She had always been my pillar of support.
Her eyes were teary as she tightly grasped my hands.
“Are you okay…? It was all so sudden, I was shocked too…”
“Lydia, thank you. I’m sorry for making you worry.”
Her kind words eased my heart a little.
It was foolish, but I had always believed that marrying Leon was my destined future.
That future had collapsed in an instant, so it was only natural to feel shaken.
“But I’ll be fine. I can’t afford to stop here.”
Hearing my words, Lydia gave me a relieved smile.
Seeing her smile gave me strength.
Just then, the sound of high heels approaching caught my attention.
When I turned around, I saw Flora, her soft brown hair swaying.
She wore a bold dress adorned with flashy jewelry, looking at me with a mocking gaze.
“Oh, how unfortunate. To have your engagement annulled in such a manner.”
She spoke with exaggerated sympathy.
But her demeanor made it clear she was looking down on me.
A warning bell rang in my heart.
Was she insulting me? Mocking me?
Either way, I found her behavior utterly unpleasant.
“Thank you for your concern. However, I have no issues.”
I responded politely, and Flora’s lips twitched slightly.
Beside me, Lydia shuddered faintly.
Flora seemed to be enjoying this situation.
Who was she, really?
Why had she approached the crown prince and broken my engagement?
There were many questions, but no clear answers yet.
However, the malice hidden in her gaze was undeniable.
Even as disgust rose within me, I forced myself to remain composed.
Still simmering with anger from the throne room, my father leaned toward me and spoke in a low voice.
“I will not let this go. No matter what they are scheming, they will take responsibility.”
His firm resolve was clear.
I nodded deeply.
I, too, had no intention of letting Leon and Flora do as they pleased.
No matter the challenges ahead, I swore to stand and fight.
