I Was Told 'No One Would Miss You,' So I Became the Empress of Another Country - Episode 23
A few days had passed since my new life in Aradis began.
I was gradually getting used to life in the empire and could now walk through the vast palace without getting lost.
My interactions with the close attendants and maids had become smoother, and I even found it enjoyable to learn the differences in meals and etiquette between the empire and my kingdom.
One morning after breakfast, however, a maid came to my room with a tense expression.
“Lady Celestia, an urgent letter has arrived from the Kingdom of Lowell. The sender appears to be… Lady Lydia from the baron’s family.”
“Lydia?”
I quickly took the letter and read through it.
It was written in Lydia’s handwriting:
“Prince Leon has been temporarily stripped of his title, but he is desperately trying to regain it.
Flora is also encouraging him, plotting once again to bring you down.
The royal capital is beginning to recover from the chaos, but no one knows what might happen next.
Be on your guard.”
After reading the letter, I felt uneasy.
Even though Leon had lost his title as crown prince for the time being, he was still royalty.
Since the king had not completely abandoned him, it was possible that Leon would scheme something and try to interfere with me again.
“Flora still hasn’t given up, has she…”
I muttered bitterly, and the maid looked at me with concern.
“Are you all right, Lady Celestia? This is the empire. It won’t be easy for people from the kingdom to make a move here.”
“Yes, as long as I’m in the empire, I shouldn’t be attacked so easily.”
That was most likely true.
This was Logan’s country, and as someone the emperor had promised to protect, it seemed unlikely that Leon and his allies would dare to act recklessly.
Still, I couldn’t say there was no danger at all.
Leon and Flora had used underhanded methods before.
There was no telling what they might do next.
That evening, I requested a meeting with Logan, who was handling imperial affairs.
When I met him in his office, it seemed he had already heard rumors from the kingdom.
“I’ve heard that Prince Leon is making moves in the kingdom. I don’t know the details yet, but it seems he’s trying to gain the king’s favor to regain his position,” Logan said in a low voice, his eyes still on the documents in front of him.
“If Flora is still involved, she may be plotting to ruin me again…”
“That’s possible. But this is the empire. It won’t be easy for people from the kingdom to infiltrate. Even if they manage to sneak in, getting past my surveillance network won’t be simple.”
Hearing those words, I felt a weight lift from my chest.
Just knowing Logan was so certain about it made my worries seem smaller.
“Even so, we must not let our guard down. They will use any means necessary.”
“I understand. I won’t let them lay a finger on you. I promised that, didn’t I?”
His quiet yet firm words sent warmth through my heart.
This man, the emperor of the empire, held overwhelming power—yet he had sworn to protect me.
The security that gave me was beyond words.
At the same time, I realized something.
My heart had already begun to be drawn to him.
But was it okay for me to accept these feelings so easily?
After my engagement with Crown Prince Leon was broken, I had only just begun to heal.
And now, was I really going to let my heart be swayed by the emperor of another country…?
“…Thank you. As long as Your Majesty Logan is here, I believe I will be fine.”
When I said that, Logan gave a small smile and began tidying up the documents on his desk.
“If anything worries you, don’t hesitate to tell me. I was the one who welcomed you here. I will take responsibility until the end.”
“Yes…”
I realized my heart was pounding.
Far away in the kingdom, Leon and Flora were still trying to bring me down.
But here, in the empire, Logan was by my side.
And I wasn’t alone in the kingdom either—my father and Lydia were there to support me.
Because of that, I felt I could truly move forward with my new life.
At the same time, my feelings for Logan were growing stronger.
He was protecting me, but I also wanted to do something for him in return.
That thought was slowly taking root in my heart.
