I Was Told 'No One Would Miss You,' So I Became the Empress of Another Country - Episode 8
Around this time, the news spread throughout the court that negotiations for an alliance with the Igleia Empire had officially begun.
Emperor Logan, while handling his duties in this country, is apparently in talks with the king and nobles about the treaty.
For the Kingdom of Lowell, strengthening ties with such a powerful empire would bring significant national benefits.
However, the problem was Leon’s attitude.
While the king and my father wanted to proceed with the negotiations as smoothly as possible, Leon was heading in the opposite direction.
“I don’t see any need to rely on the empire. With our military power, we’ll never lose to any country from now on.”
I heard this rumor from Lydia.
If it’s true, it’s very reckless.
It seems that Leon’s attitude is starting to become an obstacle, and the atmosphere in the negotiations is said to be tense.
“He might want to show off his power as the crown prince, but if the alliance falls through, it’ll be a huge blow to the kingdom.”
Lydia murmured, worried.
That’s exactly right.
If Leon keeps rushing ahead on his own, no matter how much the king or other nobles try to stop him, things could spiral out of control.
Amidst all this, another meeting was arranged for Logan to discuss matters with the king.
My father also attended, trying his best to bring the talks to a peaceful conclusion.
“Your Majesty, it would be unwise to provoke Prince Leon’s pride any further.
Please leave the decisions regarding how the Kingdom of Lowell will proceed to the king and the duke’s family.”
I felt a little relieved when I heard my father’s words from a servant.
My father seems to be trying to avoid a direct confrontation with Leon as much as possible.
Logan, with his usual calm demeanor, would be responding to the situation calmly as well.
However, the problem is that Leon’s influence is not small.
If the crown prince strongly opposes something, even if the king is in favor, it’s easy to imagine that a conflict could arise within the government.
In such a situation, Lydia whispered to me that Logan had come up with a clever strategy and was seeking my personal cooperation.
“Emperor Logan… is asking for my help?”
“Yes. It seems that he holds you in high regard. So, he wants to ‘personally seek your help’…”
It’s certainly surprising, but there’s also something that feels strangely logical about it.
At the dinner party the other night, when we spoke on the balcony, I felt Logan’s warm gaze.
If that wasn’t just sympathy or curiosity, but based on trust or some kind of expectation…
“But what can I do? Diplomacy isn’t my specialty, and I’m dealing with trouble with Leon.”
“I think Emperor Logan wants to use your position to stop Leon’s rampage.
After all, you’re a duke’s daughter who was recently broken off from your engagement to the crown prince. Plus, you have connections with the empire…”
Listening to Lydia’s words, I felt a complex mix of emotions.
It’s true that as a duke’s daughter, I have influence.
And while my relationship with Leon has just ended, I still know him well enough to understand his character and motivations.
If helping Logan with the negotiations would bring great benefits to this country, then I have no reason to hesitate in offering my cooperation.
Plus, it might be a way to stop Leon and Flora from doing as they please.
“It depends on what Father thinks, but… I think it’s worth trying.”
“That’s right. It’s better to try what we can than regret doing nothing.”
Seeing Lydia’s bright expression, I made up my mind.
If the alliance with the empire succeeds, it could become a major turning point in controlling Leon’s selfishness.
And it would also reduce the opportunities for Flora to take advantage of the situation.
With a small glimmer of hope for the future, I solidified my resolve to talk with my father.
To understand what Logan is seeking from me, and how he plans to use me as a collaborator.
To fully understand the situation, I need to meet him in person and hear him out.
I don’t want to end up always being pushed around by Leon.
Taking this step could open up a new path for me.
